  1. When I guess you're right, but still, if McDonald was covering up for Angelos that's pretty jacked up. He now looks foolish with some many sources now telling the truth though.
  2. That sounds about like the best way for this to blow over. Bring him back quietly, say nothing, admit to nothing, and make sure all of the announcers have a gag order on the subject. If Kevin Brown is here next year it will be because Angelos personally apologized (fat chance) or he gets a big pay raise. Other than that, who would want to work for an owner like this?
  3. From that tweet. I do remember hearing that from one of the Orioles announcers lately. Or at least I think so? I don't know.
  4. McDonald seemed to be covering for the Orioles when he tweeted out somethin about it being a full moon and this was nothing but a scheduling issue. That's kind of jacked up if that's what he was doing. Makes me lose a little respect for him if that's what he was talking about when he knows the actual truth. Probably would be hard to work with Kevin Brown after covering ownership over this.
  5. I've heard through a source that his fellow broadcasters and people behind the scenes are furious about this and may take some kind of action. What remains to be scene. I would imagine John Agelos does not want to publicly squabble with Orioles legend Jim Palmer and others.
  6. I've heard the producer/director and the staff are under heat as well.
  7. "29th in payroll" was the key statement I bet. Nothing like Angelos actually putting out the 29th lowest payroll then getting made when his announcer basically showed how good the team is even with the low payroll.
  8. Need and players still on the roster could determine this. Holliday is a good overall defender at SS, but he's behind Ortiz and probably Gunnar (do to his plus arm) for now defensively at SS. If Westburg settles in at 2B, and Ortiz is up and playing well at SS, it might make sense to see what he could do in LF due to his plus speed. Now, no one wants to take a guy off the dirt if they don't have to, but Holliday's average at best SS arm does fall behind both Ortiz and Gunnar at the moment. I haven't seen anything that makes me think Holliday can't play SS, but just that he's behind the other two for me. Now moving Gunnar to 3B makes sense because with everyday reps there he would be a GG in my opinion. I guess you know you have a pretty good group of players already when you can see a scenario where Holliday ends up in the outfield on this team. Again, not a swipe at Holliday, but more about how good Ortiz and even Gunnar is at SS.
  9. I assume he has options? Not sure who he would replace. Probably better than Gillespie on the 40-man.
  10. Jump to conclusions much? I don't know Brown, never met him, so I don't know if he's a jerk or not, but the people i do know that know him have never said anything bad about him. But we have a long line of behavior from JA. I mean, you can have any opinion you want, and if you want to stand on that hill defending feel free, but this has all the makings of an Angelos move. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
  11. Perhaps. Who knows? I was told that was the reason by a very good source. Either way, it's just all so damn goofy but yet, it's like we've been here before.
  12. Well since they pulled my credentials and no longer advertise with us, they lost their leverage on me. then again, I've always said what I wanted but only didn't say certain things to protect sources.
  13. So here's what I found out: Yes, this is 100% true including the statement that got him suspended. Lots of folks are not happy over this. KB was starting to pick up more and more national assignments No one seems to know the length of the suspension or when Angelos will lift it so basically it is indefinite My take: Pretty ridiculous, but not out of the norm for an Angelos. I'm a bit surprised that Ben McDonald seemed to be covering for the organization on twitter when he said this had to do with scheduling, nothing else. I wonder if Brown starting to get national gigs was rubbing Angelos wrong and this was just something he could "put a shot over the bow". I have to imagine that a young, good announcer like Brown will be wanted this offseason so regardless of whether he comes back this year or not, have to think the Angelos' just ran another real good announcer out the door. This has been known by a lot of people since he Tampa series, and is just getting out now. Angelos will either double down now that it's out, or he'll put Brown back on the air under a gag order to not discuss anything. All I know is this probably means more Melanie Newman in the booth and that's not a good thing for Orioles fans. Even in a great year like this, never doubt an Angelos to stick himself into the fray. With the Orioles winning, Angelos has started to climb out of his hole since it's cool to be an Orioles fan once again. Even though I don't want to think about the future here past this season, these kinds of acts do make me fearful that Elias at some point will get another opportunity and bolt, especially if the Orioles win a World Series. Who would want to work for an owner that does stuff like this?
  14. That was JA's wife? Well of course she would just feel she can do whatever she wants during a live broadcast. Now I know why all of the announcers just acted like nothing had happened when that woman took the selfie.
  15. Obviously fans have different tastes when it comes to announcers. While Gary would occasionally annoy me at times by calling the wrong pitch, him and Palmer were usually a fun listen overall. Gary had golden pipes and knew the proper level of excitement to show over the play at hand in the specific game situation. This is what drove me nuts about Jim Hunter. Hunter was actually an effective PBP announcer when describing the action, particular on the radio, but the Orioles could be down 8-0 and someone would pop a homer and you'd think the Orioles just walked off a win. While Brown is not perfect, as he's gotten more comfortable I've found him at times too homerish (which is funny that he was supposedly suspended over being too negative), he's a very good announcer overall on both radio and TV. Just don't make him go out into the splash zone and be a "man of the people." Talk about cringe worthy especially after he said someone may have stolen his wallet. Honestly, now that I think of it, I wonder if that was what got him suspended?
  16. Well this gives this situation some more credibility now.
  17. I think he's built himself up quite the resume to be disliked outside of just being Peter Angelos' spoiled, never accomplished anything but being a rich guy start. He's done one thing right so far. Hire Elias.
  18. By the way, this has it's own thread. Let's talk about it in the other one.. thanks.
  19. I have no idea who he is, but seems like a weird way to make something up. Who knows? With his known thin-skin, you never know with John Angelos.
  20. BTW, how can any restaurant, even McDonalds screw up a Shamrock Shake? But they clearly did. Those things are awful. Hell, all they had to do was make them mint chocolate chip and they would have had a winner. But I digress!
  21. I like Brett overall, but good Lord he needs to stop referring to the Orioles as Baltimore like he's an away or national announcers. The Orioles should always be referred to as the Orioles by the local broadcasters. He also needs to never sit in CF for a broadcast because he clearly struggled with the distance on flyballs from that angle.
  22. Wow. Wow! I mean, if that's true, and I don't have a reason to think this guy is making something up, that's just wow. I've been a bit critical of Brown this season for becoming an absolute homer with comments like , "Ohtani who?" and a couple of others where he sounded a bit too "in your face cocky," but if that's the comment that got him suspended, that is ridiculous. He just dropped facts. No wonder the Orioles announcers have been so "rah, rah" at times this season. They probably all fear the Angelos reprisal for even the smallest of perceived injustices. Ridiculously embarrassing.
  23. He's a lot like Baker in this regard. I've always wondered if it's a warm up thing. Typically, when a reliever has to warm up to come in mid-inning, they were warmed up very quickly vice having a much longer time to warm up when coming in to start a new inning. Some guys just take longer to warm up which is why not every starting pitcher can be converted to relief. It's also why I believe once the organization has decided a guy is going to be used a reliever, he should be used as a reliever in AAA or even in AA so he can get used to these kinds of situations. Relief pitchers need to be able to pitch effectively after short warm ups, pitch often (sometimes on back to back games), and be able to recover quickly enough to pitch 3-4 times a week sometimes. Back to Fuji. The good news is that's he's been good in 5 of last his 6 outings with the Orioles and hasn't given up an earned run since July 22nd. So it appears to me that he's settling in a bit. The Toronto meltdown games is the only game where he allowed inherited runners to score with the Orioles, but there was only one other game where he was brought in with a runner on base and he stranded him. On the year, Fuji has allowed 41% of his inherited runners to score which is not good, but not Bryan Baker bad (52%"). BTW, Felix Bautista has not allowed an inherited run to score yet in 2023 (9-for-9 in stranding). Cano is tied for 10th bets in the league at 23.1% ( 6/26 ) and Coulombe is 13th at 23.7% ( 9/38).
