  1. More like the 9:14 mark, but yeah, that was fun. They stuck Odor in there just to get the punch in to the clip, but good stuff.
  2. This is why I wish they divide the OAA by innings played at the position, times by nine, than times by 150 to give and idea over 150 games how much OAA they would be worth. My second base would look like: OAA/150 vs OAA Scoop: 31.6 22 Edman: 17.3 6 Story: 17.2 9 Espino: 14.4 8 Albies: 12.5 5 Odor: -7.5 -4 So Scope would be still the best when innings are taken into consideration from the guys I ran. Not surprisingly, Schoop gets most of OAA from distances where he needs his plus-plus arm, deep just to the right of 2B, and shallow RF. When the shift is abolished, he'll lose some of shallow RF OOA. Basically the Tigers have found out that having a plus arm and being steady (only 3 errors) under the current shifts makes a second baseman very valuable defensively, even if their range isn't great. (BTW: rWAR puts him at .9 dWAR) So why is Odor so low, despite the good arm? He's -5 OOA playing just straight up normal second base mostly accounting from his league leading 11 errors. He's good in shallow RF, gaining about 2 OAA. Note: You could times by 8.7 instead of 9 since when I went back and checked average of innings per games played in the field, 8.7 seems to be around what an average player on a .500 team would play. It seems to vary between 8.6 and 8.8 depending on whether there team won a lot (not needing to play the 9th) or lost a lot.
  3. Since 2020, the Orioles have been doing this rotation of announcers between TV and radio and the best part about it is by doing so, I'm pretty sure they found their perfect teams. I'm hoping in 2022 and beyond, these are the teams they go with and only bring in others if there is a game by game need. TV: Kevin Brown (PBP) and Ben McDonald (color analyst) With out a doubt Kevin Brown is the guy. He's insightful, funny, quirky at times, but just a fantastic fit with Ben McDonald particularly. He's found a way to balance being excited for the home town without sounding like a total and utter homer. Brown needs to be signed long term to be the everyday TV play by play guy. Now I know this is where people are going give me fits, but here me out. I was starting to worry that Ben was starting to go the Mike Bordick route with over use of baseball clichés and being a total homer in his analysis. But Ben has really turned it around of late, and his "Louisiana boy" mix with Brown is fantastic. Ben has been fantastic at saying what the next pitch will be when prompted by Brown and 90% of the time he's been right on and the result was a good one. Now, I know Palmer has been here a long time, and he's an absolute Legend on the field and off with the Orioles, but I think it's time to minimize Palmer's games to games when Ben can't announce due to his ESPN college baseball work. Palmer is still good overall, and we know he brings the photographic memory or every event that took place in baseball that he's seen, but I think it's time to transition to Ben as the primary color guy with Brown. Radio: Geoff Arnold and Brett Hollander Geoff has become Kevin Brown-lite and honestly, he could be the TV guy as well, but Geoff has become very good at describing the action while adding enough inflection into his calls to give out the excitement of the play. Geoff sounds very professional and has become a joy to listen to on the air. Hollander has become very good as well and works well being the Manfra to Arnold's Angel. Brett has gotten better at his play by play calls and although he'll occasionally under describe the action leaving us for a few seconds to wonder where the ball went, he's good at making sure the call comes across as the crowd is reacting, not behind the crowd reaction. He works very well with Arnold and together they are very good radio team. Studio: Melanie Newman Now Newman may get an opportunity to go on to the national scene doing announcing or studio work, but she's very prepared during her studio segments and even her in game stuff can be alright (I'm not a fan of any of the in game studio stuff by anyone honestly, but she's the least annoying at it). In my mind, these are the best people for the roles as the everyday teams. If they want to add an announcer, they should highly consider getting Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp announcer Scott Kornberg. Out of all the minor league games I watch with the affiliates, he stands out as the best of them all. He can do play by play but is also one of the most prepared announcers I've seen with stories and backgrounds of opposing team players. He's quite amazing.
  4. I said the same thing in the game thread last night. Kevin and Ben were outstanding last night. They are the cream of the crop of our announcer teams.
  5. Perfectly said. Odor is without a doubt not getting DFA'd this year but I do think when Stowers comes up and definitely if they bring up Henderson. he goes to the bench.
  6. While I'm not against giving Hall a chance to continue to start, I also would not be against easing him into the major league in an Akin role. I don't think doing that is necessarily "stupid."
  7. Also ex-Oriole Alejandro De Aza is playing on that team too. Wally Backman is manager. Seems like this would be a fun team to watch, especially if there is a bad call and Backman loses his shit again!
  8. Yeah, he's one of the few players I can think of that I'm pulling for him to do well with his new team.
  9. Well now Frobby joined you though this game was still not as Epic as the Boston meltdown game. Be able to walk out of the stadium after knowing Tampa knocked them out of the playoffs, while yelling "Let's go Orioles!" after being bombarded all night with "Let's go Red Sox" was one of the highlights of my orioles fandom.
  10. It really depends on who you can get this offseason and how they evaluate their current group. The Orioles are going to have a pretty "cheap" offense so they can afford to go out and get two #1-#2 types and still keep Lyles at $11 million. The question is, "Should they?" Let's say the Orioles look like this next year: 1. Fa or Trade 2. FA or Trade 3. GRodriguez 4. TWells 5. Kremer/Watkins/Bradish/Hall Depending on who those #1 and #2 are, I'd be comfortable with this rotation. Now, we don't know what kind of innings limit GRod will be on so I'm not sure we can count him all season or we're going to see some designed short 3 innings starts. Same thing with Hall, so maybe they piggy back. Bradish could easily move to the pen and be dominant as well as give you a right-handed Akins. So looking at the available options next year, IF they acquire two very good starters, then i agree, I don't think it's necessary to pick up Lyles' option. But I do think they could afford it.
  11. Honestly, I haven't paid much attention to his footspeed but will look at it a little closer now. Considering they still play him at SS occasionally, I'd probably guess yes he could play RF, but I'll need to watch for that aspect of him before saying so.
  12. It's been a slow start for the 17-year old bonus baby who received an Orioles record $1.7 million last signing period. Saying that Braylin Tavera is starting to figure some things out. After going through an 0-for-26 stretch on late June, early July, he's slashed .289/.475/.356/.831 over his last 61 PAs with 13 BB and 9 Ks in 16 games. Only 12 of his PAs this season have come against pitcher younger than him, so he's playing against mostly older competition. While the power he has not really shown up, his ability to get on base has been impressive of late.
  13. De Leon is an interesting guy because of his raw power that he's still learning how to bring into games. He really struggles on changeups and sliders though and he reminds me a bit of a right-handed Isaac Bellony. Bellony found High-A pitching overwhelming and I feat De Leon will have the same issue if he can't learn to hit or stay off out of the zone offspeed pitches. He can murder some fastballs though. Defensively he's got the arm for third base, but doesn't have the hands or range to really play there effectively. He's destined for 1B but if his power can develop, he could potentially end up a prospect there.
  14. Per Dan Connolly Jackson Holliday will make his professional debut tonight under the lights in the FCL in Sarasota. Game time is 6:05.
  15. I'm just kidding with you of course. I enjoy the conversation and even defending my thoughts. Plus, you are good at pointing out when some one is on a heater and I might have missed it. As for Hernaiz, you have to like what he's done this year offensively. He just turned 21 so would have been drafted this year out of college had he gone. If we had a new draft pick and he was able to put up a .828 OPS in Aberdeen right away, I'd be impressed. He's outperformed Norby at the same level at a year younger. Now the question is, where does he play? The arm is not strong enough for SS on an everyday basis and he has throwing and hands issues at times from 3B and 2B. I'd keep running him out in the dirt for another year, but if he it doesn't improve, then they have to think about moving him to left field and hope that power really develops. I don't know if he will end up a Top 10 guys when is said and done for the Top 30 prospects at the end of the year, but he's going to most likely stay in the top 20.
  16. Nice bomb to center. Hopefully he's getting back on track. I worry a bit that he's going to be a streaky hitter like Mountcastle and Hays though.
  17. Eh, it is deep and there's no issue with doing 40-50 now that we have the new draft picks in and some stats and info on the DSL/FCL guys. But people can't get too wrapped up in the numbering after 30. They are all really "players to watch" vs Top 30.
  18. Stowers is ready for the big leagues and the Orioles could get him regular PAs if the team would bench Odor and allow Vavra to play 2B. But, it appears they don't think Vavra can play 2B effectively or they love riding the Odor rollarcoaster of awful bae running, hitting and fielding play offset by late inning heroic homers. lol Personally I think the team would be better with Stowers playing RF/DH with Santander, Vavra at 2B and Odor on the bench and Nevin back to AAA or DFA'd. I get the feeling that's why Santander is getting some pregame reps at 1B and Odor at 3B. Both become back ups to those positions, freeing up the Orioles to bring up Stowers and remove Nevin from the roster. This gives them a better bench and allows them to give Mountcastle, Hays and Santander a day off without losing a ton of offense with McKenna or Phillips.
  19. I decided to do 40 afterall. You convinced me. lol Now hopefully @RZNJ doesn't start arguing with me over why one guy is 35 and the other 36. lol
  20. Yes, the rule for the power rankings is the player must have played this year in the minors to be eligible for the list, so new draft picks are only available once they play in a game. Holliday with be #3 for me once he plays.
  21. I call it "Pulling a @Dipper9" He left this famous game early during a Hangout night. https://www.espn.com/mlb/game/_/gameId/310928101
  22. And of course Odor catches the last out.
  23. Doubt they walk him on purpose, but can't give him anything good.
