  1. Why would we expect anything else? A chance to take a series from TB, a win in the first start for a rookie pitcher, and the Tanner Scott standing on the mound with a one run lead in the 9th. Man, I can't wait until we have talent where these games are exciting but we actually come out on top.
  2. Oh well.. that's Scott for ya. lol Loads the bases, K's a guy, get the last hitter down to one strike and gives up a two-run game winning single. The guy is literally the antithesis of money in leverage situations.
  3. Well we can't say this is not exciting.. lol
  4. Tanner Scott is the left-handed version of Don Stanhouse! Earl Weaver's grave is smoking.
  5. Listening to it on "radio" at work. Who should have caught that?
  6. Probably not a good match up here. Scot is who he is and that's a guy who should never be closing games out or in any high leverage situation unless it calls for a strikeouts in a do or die situation.
  7. Raise your hand if you feel good about Scott in the 9th?
  8. Unlike Akin and Kremer, he doesn't get shaken easily.
  9. If you told us he's going to give up three runs in five innings in his first MLB start, I'm sure most would take it!
  10. Urias is a slightly below average defensive shortstop, but not to the point it will really hurt a team. If he's going to hit like he is it'll play, but he can be an above average second baseman, which is where I think he ends up ultimately until a better player is available.
  11. Not sure who called for an 86 MPH middle-middle (maybe a little low) first pitch fastball to Arozorena but that's not a good call.
  12. If the International pitching doesn't start picking up, we're going to start seeing a lot of those games in the system as long as Elias keeps ignoring pitching in his first ten rounds of his drafts.

I can tell you from watching their appearances that it's somewhat ball related with Bradish. Bradish' nasty curveball hasn't had as good a break at times and his fastball command has been pretty awful at AAA. Smith really has only had a few bad starts, but he's mostly a slider guy and I really think he's ultimately going to end up in relief like a Paul Fry type. The slider has been a little less easier for him to command in AAA, which could be ball related. Wells really struggled early on and you wonder how much was it the ball, the injury he was coming off again (oblique) or the competition. After his first four starts, Wells has pitched to a 1.85 ERA with a 30 to 6 K to walk ratio in his last 34 innings and that includes his 4.2 major league innings in which he gave up two earned runs. Lowther I have concerns with the major league ball but his curveball and slider both don't look as sharp and his changeup has been quite terrible. I don't want to make a full opinion though until he gets another ten AAA starts under his belt and see if he can make the adjustments.

Another really good Melewski article. Listening to his quotes, 2019 was a classic situation how a season can unravel on guys. He basically admitted it snowballed on him and is exactly why you have to be careful with what level guys are at. Not saying he was promoted too fast last year because at his age and success in Delmarva, he earned that promotion, but it goes to show how human these guys are and how failure can really snowball on guys. Watching Knight this year compared to 2019 is like a whole different gut. He's a legitimate starting pitching prospect again.

Yes, that's true, but saying this, Knight's velocity and assortment of pitches along with his rediscovered command really does make him very interesting. I just like how the stuff plays and honestly, I almost jumped him over Bradish who I'm less bullish on as a starter.
  16. Yes, 100%. So far though, only Spenser Watkins has really contributed among the free agent signings. I think Dusten Knight will get an opportunity soon though. He's earned it.
  17. Unfortunately, the stats have shown my scouting eye was not wrong about his inability to hit velocity. He's seen 203 fastballs and has a .121 average with a .167 XBA. Even worse he has a 37.8% WHIF against the pitch. If you go with pure 4-seam fastballs (125 pitches) that average 94.1 MPH, he's hitting .059 with an awful 50% whiff rate. A lack of ability to hit a fastball is a tough thing to get better at and one of the reason despite his outstanding defense and running ability, he's going to be limited to being a 4th/5th outfield kind of guy. If they expand the roster to 27 he could be a good guy to have on the bench because of his plus defensive abilities and pinch running.
  18. At 31 years old, Mr. Knight belongs in that category until he doesn't.
  19. Dusten Knight for one. Not sure whether his slow curveball will work at the major league level but he's throwin 92-95 and probably deserves a shot over Anderson,
  20. Exactly. It's a drop in the bucket for them.
  21. I'm not sure I buy that, but it can't be a big hurdle to use the same ball throughout the minor leagues, or at the very least, AA and higher.
  22. Lots of goodness in there about the Orioles draft process and it good to hear about the interactions with scouts that were backed up by the analytics.
  23. It shouldn't be and they should make the change next year with the new collective bargaining agreement. I also think they should work with colleges to use wood bats. What is a couple hundred grand to help college programs use wood bats so it's easier to identify hitting prospects?
  24. One way to look at each level is by seeing how much of the talent Elias drafted or acquired through trade/minor league free agency Team Players on roster Duquette acquired Duquette/Rajsich drafted Elias acquired PCT Elias Drafted Total Elias % Records Norfolk: 34 9 (26.4%) 9 (26.4%) 16 (47%) 0 (0%) 47% 24-38 (.387) Bowie: 32 4 (12.5%) 16 (50%) 7 (21.8%) 5 (15.6%) 37.4% 37-27 (.578) Aberdeen 30 0 (0%) 5 (16.7%) 6 ( 20%) 19 (63.3%) 83.3% 36-30 (.545) Delmarva 30 4 (13.3%) 4 (13.3%) 12 (40%) 10 (33.3%) 73.3% 39-25 (.609)
