  1. Santander is clearly our best player right now. He may very well be the guy you build around. Switch hitter with power from both sides of the plate and is a good defensive outfielder on top of it all.
  2. Eh, the are who they are. A few wins was not going to change the fact that this team is not good. The guys that were hitting are now all cold.
  3. The entire team is getting pitched to. Perez is on his game tonight and the Orioles offense is continuing its slump.
  4. My reverse jinx is much better than my positive predictions.
  5. I'm calling it, Mountcastle gets his first hit this inning.
  6. His arm is playable this year as well. I wonder if he did something this offseason or was hurting last year because is arm was a detriment last year.
  7. Nunez is slow, but he's running a little weird this year. I don't recall him having that little gait before this year.
  8. I'm a little late on this, but it's interesting that Pat Valaika now has as many home runs as Renato Nunez.
  9. It's almost like talent will eventually win out over the long run. I believe Hyde will try to win every game with the personnel he has. I don't believe Elias wants to win this year and prefers at least one more year of great draft position.
  10. No, but adding strength when you already have the ability to hit will help for sure, and it's why guys went from good average hitters with limited power to good average hitters with massive power numbers during the steroid era. Also, it's clear that steroids allowed pitchers to throw harder.
  11. I think Mountcastle is going to hit for a high average which will make up for his lack of walks and give him a decent OPS. It would not surprise me if he ends up a .800-.820 consistent OPS guy with some peak years. If he learns to take some walks or if pitchers start pitching around him, he could easily be an .850 OPS guy. The key to success for Mountcastle is how much will he improve his game plan at the plate. If he decides to work like Mancini does and is able to take that into the batters box, his pure skills will make him a better hitter than Mancini.
  12. Mountcastle is more athletic than Mancini overall and moves a bit better though Mancini is not as slow as some like to think. Let not forget, at 22 years of age, Ryan Mountcastle slashed .312/.344/.527/.871 in AAA. At 22 years old, Mancini slashed .284/.326/.409/.735 between Delmarva and Frederick. His upside offensively is much higher than Mancini, though Mancini gets ht most of his talents because he's a very smart hitter who makes very good in at bat adjustments and has a really good game plan at the plate. Mountcastle gets by on pure talent, bat speed, ability to barrel balls off the plate, plate coverage, and raw power. If he develops a better plan at the plate and puts in the time with the scouting reports on pitchers and so forth, he has a chance to be a monster at the plate. I know you also said he's similar to Nunez at the plate, but again, Mountcastle out performed Nunez at the same age/level in just about every year and particularly in AAA. Defensively he is who he is right now but I've heard that holding his own in LF down in Bowie. I agree with you that Mancini, Nunez, Sisco (1b/DH) and Mountcastle all have similar profiles as bat first guys who are defensively challenged, but Mountcastle has the most upside in the bat by a fairly significant amount IMHO.
  13. Yeah, I was trying to figure it out too but it does seem like things are missing.
  14. It was nice to not have a Chris Davis question from Vinnie! Must be the curse of that name! Get paid, play like a chump.
  15. Is there a way to look up numbers over 1222 PA streak? I mean, I guy could of had a .580 OPS over 2000 PAs, but never had a block of 1222 PAs where he OPS'd under .600.
  16. It's is 100% PAs fault for giving out that contract. That we can agree on. Scott Boros should have been fined for elder abuse during that negotiation.
  17. Chris Davis has enough money for himself, his children, his grandchildren and their grand children already. Sure, you can look at like he's just taking what he's legally owed, but some of us would like to be able to look at themselves in the mirror. I understand not everyone will look at from this perspective, but there have been cases where players walked away from guaranteed money because they did feel they would earn it any longer. those are people I respect and who have the dignity to stand up and just say, I just can't perform any longer. Then there are those that have no issues with putting up historically bad numbers in order to collect a giant paycheck. To each is own of course, but I have lost respect for Davis for continuing this charade. I can understand though that some people may have a differing opinion on the matter.
  18. Chris Davis has now slashed .176/.262/.319/.581 since June 7, 2017 over 1222 PAs. I'm not sure how to check, but I wonder if any player in the major leaguers over the last 100 years has a stretch off 1222 PAs with a worse OPS? Maybe some slap hitting shortstop that brought great defensive value did, but I'd bet a good amount of money no first baseman has ever been given that many at bats where he's performed so poorly. It's ashamed that Davis will now be remember for being one of the worse Orioles ever but he chooses to keep running himself out there and embarrassing himself. If he had a shred of dignity he'd retire, but he'll keep cashing those paychecks.
  19. Yep, very aware of Bumbry's background.
  20. I don't think if you bring up Mountcastle that you platoon him with anyone. Perhaps he gets an occasional day off against a tough veteran righty, but if he comes up, he needs to play just about every day in LF. With Velazquez's ability to play left field, I think he could give him a day off and be a defensive replacement late in close games perhaps. I'm fine with DFAing, DSJ. While DSJ's bat has some value, his poor defensive and base running skills (speed is below average and awareness is clearly not great) makes him replacement level at best.
