  1. Sisco's poor defensive tag was not just on his poor throwing (which is really bad at 2.10 pop time). It was on things like tagging, game awareness, framing (he's only good at pulling in balls across his body and bringing them in for extra strikes) and his blocking is not great. He's just a below average defensive catchers cross the spectrum really.
  2. Thanks for saving me the time. All I can add is ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ THIS ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
  3. Right, at the end of the day, in the emergency situation where you lose the DH, you just let the pitcher bat and play NL baseball or late in a game you PH.
  4. I did and I still don't think he has great bat speed. His EV is still pretty low despite the good OPS so we shall see.
  5. The chances of that happening is so minuscule that I'm not too worried about that. If you want to evaluate them both, give them both pretty regular at bats.
  6. I don't think you bury Severino to just a platoon guy. I like seeing Sisco Dhing as well in order to give him ABs.

Yeah, even 35 should get you pulled at this stage in his development. He's taken a step back with his control this year and hopefully can right the ship a bit.
  8. Former Elias draft pick who was throwing the ball pretty well in AAA last year and two years ago. Looks like he had an awful 2018 season and must've been struggling in spring to get assigned to AA out of spring training. Honestly, if this moves Hess back to a reliever spot, why not? Heck, if you just replaces guy like Lucas and Phillips were fine. Why not? Not expecting a ton, but at this point I'm open to giving any AAA guy doing well a chance.

No, command is imperative at some point not just important. I certainly understand the concern over the walks and clearly he needs to bring that down, but for now I'm impressed with the lack of damage and missing bats.

What is tells me is the quality of stuff is there (although we know this). If you have success with that kind of lack of control (notice I didn't say command) then it means your stuff is nasty.
  11. This is a good point and why I'd like to see them challenged a bit here soon with promotions.
  12. I would agree with this. Martin has shown very good baseball IQ on the field which is one o the reasons like him overall, even though he's overmatched right now in the big leagues offensively.
  13. That was also his best year ever at the plate, slashing .288/.330/.381/.710 before steeling in as a 251/.298/.308/.606 guy over the rest of his big league time as a starter. But, your point is valid. Itzuris was a better hitter and fielder than Martin at the same age. The issue we have is the same one we have lots of places, if not him, then who? Martin may never be a regular, but because of his speed, I could see him becoming a decent utility guy if he can improve the stick enough to be around a .650 OPS guy and if he can learn to play an effective 2B and CF.
  14. I think SportsGuy's soul was just disturbed a little bit. He's probably somewhere trolling on someone and then perked up like the Force had a great disturbance.
  15. I'm not sure that is really part of the "process" this year. Obviously the manager and the coaching staff and the players want to win every game, but this season was never about that for Elias. It's about evaluations and trying things to see what will help in the future. Martin still could develop into an everyday SS at some point or at least a utility guy. With his speed, I could see him playing CF along with 2B effectively.
  16. I did see that and was so happy. That was the one thing The Baseball Cube had over BB-Ref. As for Martin, he's clearly not a major league player at this juncture but I feel his defense is better than his defensive metrics suggest. Still, it would not hurt my feelings if the Orioles went with Villar at SS and Alberto at 2B a bit more. BTW, Drew Jackson is slashing just .238/.340/.377/.717 in AAA.
  17. 1st 20 rounds done and only two high school players (Henderson -2nd and Hernaiz-5th).
  18. He did, and good comparison defensively. Of course, Reimold's arm was strong but it didn't play well due to accuracy issues.
  19. He's been coached up by some of the best, including Mike Bordick. Some guys just aren't able to take coaching to the field consistently, especially when the game speeds up.
  20. Yep. I'm hoping they at least split right-handed pitching between Pedro and Sisco and allow Sisco to do some DHing, sending Mancini to 1B and Davis to the bench where he belongs until they can release him.
  21. It's not that he just a bad fielder, it's that he was a "dumb" baseball player with well below average baseball IQ. Whether it was lining up wrong for cutoffs, making bad tags, or not having his feet right when trying to turn double plays, he just did a lot of things poorly for a guy who has played so much baseball. Great raw tools that will just never be realized because of his lack of baseball instincts in the field.
  22. Some scouts liked his tools offensively more than his output. They just felt like he needed to make adjustments to his approach. In my mind, the most likely explanation is that he's using the analytics numbers to know what the pitchers are trying to do to him now. As a bi-lingual catcher, I'm guessing he's pretty smart so it would not surprise me if we find out that is part of his no-approach that is allowing him to decrease is OSwing%. He's barreled 10 balls (12.2% vs 6.2% MLB avg) already this year after barreling only 4 balls his whole career before this season. His Hard hit % is 31.7 % (Just under 34.3 % MLB avg) and he's dropped his K% 20 (21.5% MLB AVG) and upped his BB% to 10% (8.3%). All of these metrics indicate there's a good chance of sustained success. Regardless, he will be a good guy to keep an eye and i hope the Orioles continue to give him everyday PAs and not relegate him to platoon catcher with Sisco.
  23. That -0.5 dWAR though makes you remember why I couldn't wait for Beckam to leave.
  24. Could be that with the increase in playing time that he's just seeing the ball better or with the analytics he's got a good idea of what they are trying to do to him. Pitchers will now make some adjustments back with him so we will see how this plays out after the big game. I like his approach at the plate though.
