  1. For god's sake they only stole signs that didn't kill anyone!
  2. C - Lew Ford 1B - Lew Ford 2B - Lew Ford SS - Lew Ford 3B - Lew Ford LF - Lew Ford RF - Lew Ford CF - Lew Ford DH - Lew Ford RHP - Lew Ford LHP - Lew Ford RP - Lew Ford
  3. Okay, we I guess if you're going to use "facts" and stuff then you can't make a compelling argument. ?
  4. One could make a compelling argument that had Chris Davis missed 105 more games due to injuries the O's would have a better won/loss record.
  5. "Old guy skill set?" You mean he can explain escrow and knows the difference between a Roth and traditional IRA?
  6. That whole striking out 19 AAA batters in 9 innings has to be something doesn't it?
  7. That's me. I was 10-20 during the 70's and the Orioles were perpetually in the mix and nearly always at or near the top of the American League East. And let's not forget Paul Blair, Mark Belanger, Boog Powell, Elrod Hendricks, Dave McNally and Mike Cuellar. What a great decade to be an Oriole fan!
  8. Alright, this was not what I was expecting when I clicked on this link. And now I'm sad. I understand that you've got to do what's best for you and the family, but for what it's worth I would really miss this place if it goes away. Baseball, and the Orioles, will never be the same without the Hangout. You've really created something special here Tony. Whatever you decide you should be really proud of what you've done - especially the community you've created here. There's just nothing like it on the web. I can't pretend to understand the economics of running the Hangout, but put me down as one of those who would pay a lot more to have the privilege of having access to the amazing content you provide. Keep us posted, and if you decide to hang it up, thank you for all the great memories.
  9. Mine first baseball game was in 1966 in Memorial Stadium. I saw Jim Palmer pitch against (I believe) the Chicago White Sox. My Dad bought me a pennant with a team photo on it and I was an Orioles fan for life. Boog Powell, Frank Robinson, Andy Etchebarren, and of course, Brooks Robinson were on that team.
  10. Your baseball origins story leaves a lot to be desired. First of all it was Abner Doubleday who came down from Mount Cooperstown... and you call yourself a student of the game? Ha!
  11. No more Jesse Orosco's. While it should definitely speed up the game I'm still not sure how I feel about this. I'm reserving my opinion until Drungo weighs in with all the statistical implications.
  12. I've been sympathetic to Davis in the past but his most recent quote pushed me over the edge. You're right that at his age he's probably not going to be able to reinvent himself as a hitter... but what does he have to lose by trying? The optics of this... like his performance at the plate... are abysmal.
  13. If I were Davis I would jump at this. He would preserve what's left of his major league legacy, still get paid the same money, and he could enjoy going to the ball park again. And what if he led the Sante Fe Fuego to the Pecos league championship?
  14. And don't forget, he would off a strong veteran presence on the club as well. :--)
  15. I'm okay with Martin too... especially if he puts up the kind of numbers he did in the second half .284/.321/.392
  16. Oh yeah, I understand the population difference and all. I was just surprised that a minor league team anywhere could draw so well.
  17. I'm stunned to find out the Las Vegas team draws 650K + per year (9,300 per game). Our Sally league team in Charleston, WV averages 1,700 per game and around 118K for the year.
  18. If his last name weren't Yastrezemski we wouldn't be having these threads.
  19. He is averaging 1 HR for every 424 plate appearances... but he's still young.
