Distance isn't an issue.  I'll be staying with a friend in DC for a few days so we might do the crab house on a different day than the game.

Not sure what’s near DC but u know in the Baltimore area there are a lot of good places. Seaside, Costas Inn and Conrads are a few good ones.

There is a place about 40 min outside of Baltimore called Madonna Seafood. AYCE crabs on Tuesday nights…great crabs.

  2. Some of the advanced stats don’t like Baumann much.

Again, I have felt that he will pop for a season or 2 and have good numbers but I do agree he’s a dime a dozen type guy.

I just think it limits our options on who we can go to.  If Baker was pitching better I would feel a lot better about the decision.

I do agree that I don’t think he gets claimed.

My read is that they are pivoting to focus on ceiling right now. The ultimate goal is stacking the playoff roster with high end talent. Baumann is solid but has never been elite. Perez has shown he is capable of 1.40 ERA level, so even if he is a worse pitcher now they are giving him a shot to find his 2022 stuff. If it doesn't happen soon he may be next to go.

Urias and Mateo should be very concerned as well.

Mateo has no concern. He’s playing well and it’s obvious they like him or else he would have been cut last year.

  4. My issue with (potentially) letting Baumann go isn’t because I feel he’s some major loss (although I do think he will have some good relief years going forward.

My issue is that we lack arms in general. Yea Povich and McDermott could factor into the pen eventually and Tate is down there but is he even an upgrade over Baumann?

I just don’t think we have the arms that makes you say, yep we can get rid of this guy.

If we make a trade or 2 soon and bring in better arms, so be it.  No issue with the decision but barring that, I’m not seeing the need to do it.

Of course, it’s not definite he’s gone either.

Ehh, they don't seem like the kind of guys to make a knee-jerk reaction based on his appearance last night. I'm sure they've had enough data to suggest he should be the guy to go long before yesterday's game even started.

Mike Baumann 2024 thread - Baumann must go (Many OH posters)

Mike Baumann DFA thread - I don't understand why they let Baumann go. (Many OH posters)

Not saying they are one jerk but there’s always likely something that is the straw that broke the camels back and that outing yesterday may have been it.

Big Mike threw a no-hitter for Bowie. He got some big outs over the last few years. He'll find a job somewhere.

    Ultimately, he's a 4.50 ERA right handed bullpen guy. They're a dime a dozen.

Except he’s been better than that, so that’s not an accurate description of him.

  7. Ugh. Bad decision imo

Although I will say that with Elias and Sig out there last night and the Os with a big lead, Baumann getting 2 outs and then allowing 2 base runners, one of which where he had no command in the at bat, had to irritate the powers at be.

  8. He hasn’t been tested in CF yet, at least for what I have seen.

He's basically making plays that any ML player would make.

As per everything else, let’s not go overboard on a SSS. We have seen mixed reports from scouts on if he can stay in CF.

He has tools to make you think he can do it but those tools don’t mean he play the level of defense you want out of a CFer.

But it may mean that he can be your CFer for now, especially because Mullins is a zero with the bat and no matter what the defensive difference is, you can’t play a guy that’s an automatic out everyday.

I personally think Mullins will snap out of it but he has to actually do it.  At least the Os recognize it and are trying to get others in the lineup.

So away at KC and Dallas plus a game against the Bills whom we seem to struggle against. We could be 1-3 to start the season

We also could be 4-0 or 2-2 or 3-1 or 0-4.

What if Cowser is a good Centerfielder?

     Makes life easier going forward.

I was in the category of no way hes a CFer and I’m not sure I’m budging from that yet but his defense looks a lot better, that’s for sure.

Oh and he’s starting to hit the last few games, so maybe his career isn’t over.

Hays’ leg looks pretty healthy!   And so does the bat!   Two nice strokes to RCF in two at bats since returning.  107.5 mph off the bat tonight.  Great base running too.

Huge difference to how he looked prior to the IL stint. Just looks more confident.

I would go a step further and say trading for a positional player at this point is off the table and should be.  Focus is and should be on pitching especially high leverage relievers.

No doubt. This thread was about OFers but you are right, it’s just not on the table.

So, how are you feeling about French these days?   The team has an ERA+ of 113, compared to last year’s 105.   The transition from Holt to French seems to have gone very smoothly.

I have to say, French seems to keep a very low profile.  I don’t think I’ve seen a single quote from him all season.

But has he completed his degree in wizardry?

I think some of you are kind of making my point.  It’s like the April offense was an illusion but the May offense is reality.  The truth is, neither is reality.  The combined numbers are much closer to the truth.  The players who are slumping won’t stay in slumps forever (at least, most of them won’t).  Guys will get hot, other guys will get cold.  There be down times for the pitching, too.  But so long as the team keeps finding ways to win, I’m happy.

The Os are 22nd in MLB in team OBP. They were 17th in April.

Yes they scored runs in April but you don’t expect that to keep up to the level they were doing it with a poor team OBP like that.
