He's looking like Bad Cowser again. Give it a couple of weeks, bring back Kjerstad if it doesn't get better.

No he’s not. As was talked about today, he’s hitting the ball hard. He’s seeing a lot of pitches.  The results have been awful but the approach and quality of contact have not.

That's fair.  It's just odd that they brought Kjerstad up for any kind of time if they didn't have a plan to play him.  But we've discussed that ad nauseum.

Yes, bringing up Stowers was the right move to begin with.

That said, the Os may have played HK more IF he had hit immediately. He looked bad the first game and it’s almost like they buried him immediately.

Week 1 is probably the best time to play a Thursday night game, you aren’t really playing on short rest, and you go into week 2 with extra rest.

Yea thats a good point.  Hopefully they don’t have any games this year on short rest although a Harbaugh bowl on Christmas wouldn’t be surprising

He's got a 38 OPS+ in that time with a .564 OPS. His defense is carrying his WAR right now. I'll stand by my statement that his bat is atrocious, right now. Since April 15th his WRC+ is 68, and his K% is 35.4%.

The results are atrocious..disagree that the bat is.

  5. No player is untouchable. I don’t care if it’s Holliday, Adley, Gunnar, Basallo or Mayo.

That said, the player(s) that you would have to get back in return to move any of those guys are also not being traded, so for me, it’s a worthless conversation to have.

The Os have plenty of trade pieces that could get back what they need without trading the elite guys.

  6. Wonder if they should look to move him to the pen?

On one hand, let him throw as much as possible since he missed so much time.

But at his age, it’s going to be a while before he can truly be relied on as a starter and he doesn’t have innings limitations.

You love the arm but it’s very unlikely he makes it as a starter imo.

    Batters - Team observations.

BAL is 3rd in Bat Speed, and the only one of the Top 3 to be near average in the "Cobb" component, Squared Uo/Swing.

Juan Soto earned singling out in Petriello's intro as the human pinnacle of capability to combine bat speed and control, but these are things peak Josh Hader and Gerrit Cole and whatever Clayton Kershaw was that time he crushed him knew from previous Octobers.

TOR is last in Bat Speed.    HOU and NYY are at the top of bat control, and still not bad at Bat speed.

The direction of ATL offensive firepower manifests in by far MLB best team bat speed - PIT is the only other team aside from them ahead of the Orioles.

The graphic showing Giancarlo's 10-foot and Arraez's 4-foot path to the ball was baseball beautiful.

    Pound Toronto with fastballs?

  8. Gunnar is highest ranked Os player at 16th overall.  Mountcastle is 20th and Cowser is 39th.

    Adley is down to 180.

Helps explain how hard these guys are hitting the ball. Adley is hitting it harder this year than before but he’s still down the chart.

I’m guessing we will see that correlation between bat speed and higher exit velos. (Hence Stanton being #1)

So anyone else dreading the season opener at Kansas City on Sep 5?

I wish I was more excited to see Lamar take on Mahomes again.

Maybe you guys can help me.  The AFC Championship game was pretty close I guess........

Thought this was going to happen.

It’s not an ideal first game but it’s also probably the best time to play a team like KC. They are timing offense that usually gets better as the season goes on.

Rice probably misses the game (and many others) too.

Since you have to play at KC this year, this is probably best case scenario in terms of when you play them (without the benefit of playing them if they are injured or something like that)

The strange thing is he is slumping strictly going by the numbers,  but he doesn't seem to be slumping by his swing and how he is hitting the ball.  For example with Holliday when he was up here I felt like there as no way he was going to hit the ball.  With Cowser it is different.  By appearances and swing he seems.....rather good.

I am kind of going through the same thing right now.  I average 225 or so in numerous bowling leagues, but the past 3 weeks I am only around 210 even though I feel I am throwing the ball great.

With sports sometimes things just happen with no rhyme or reason.

    Yea I agree with this.

He has a lot of swing and miss in his game but I don’t feel he’s really slumping. In the DBacks series, he had a lot of well hit balls that were right at someone or they tracked them down. (Ala the ball the other night Gurriel caught that would have been a homer in a lot of parks)

I don’t feel he’s up there taking bad at bats or anything like that.

He has also seemingly been victim to a lot of bad strike calls against him too.
