  1. Maybe seeing that nobody outside of the Marlins had anyone test positive since they started playing again had an effect.
  2. Wow. And with more teams contending this year, I think we'll see selling teams able to make some good deals.
  3. It might be a sign that teams are already desperate for mediocre pitching.
  4. Btw, with this and a couple other starting pitchers not showing up for the Braves, expect them to be looking for any half-way decent veteran starting pitcher - someone like Cobb or LeBlanc.
  5. The Braves have always been my favorite NL team, so I've followed Folty his entire career. He's always been inconsistent, but 2 years ago it looked like he broke out into a budding star. Since then, he's lost at least 5 MPH on his fastball, and his body language has been awful. What worries me most is the weight loss. I'd stay away from him - maybe next spring consider giving him a make good minor league contract. He's still just 28, so there's some hope, but it'll take a minor miracle. I just hope he's healthy and gets his act back together.
  6. I've never been a big Ruiz fan, but am I wrong in saying he looks a lot better - he looks like he's put the work in in the gym, and he looks more confident at the plate - perhaps because of the work he put in in the gym. Or maybe it's the hair. ? It's early - we'll see. He's just turned 26, so he's young enough to be part of the O's future.
  7. Fwiw, the 2 Braves catchers tested negative for Covid, but they sat out with flu-like symptoms.
  8. 10 guys getting it from 1 team... Isn't that an indication that they're doing something wrong? If you say it's not, then maybe it's time to shut down the season. How is it no one or the other?
  9. Of course, he's got to keep his head in the game. That base-running blunder - especially after Alberto did the same the previous game - makes the team look undisciplined.
  10. His opposite field double that nearly went out of the park was a nice easy swing. Makes me think that's a repeatable swing, and he can get hits on it even when he doesn't get it up in the air - because the defense is set for him to pull. When he pulls it, he's almost always grounding out into the switch - or striking out. It seems like a matter of being disciplined.
  11. I was impressed with the last couple of pitches - he seemed to have a little extra velocity and late pop. Getting 7 outs against that Boston lineup was impressive. Let's see how consistent he'll be going forward.

I'm happy for l'l Yaz, but I don't feel his success should be called a fail for the O's. If anyone thought he'd do as well as he did, kudo's to them. Nostradamus didn't predict it. Heck, even Ruztradamus thought he was just a more athletic smaller version of Pete Rose, Jr. Good for him - it's nice to see an underdog like him succeed.
  13. I hear there's a knock on him. Seriously, it sounds like he'd be a good addition - scouting report says throws mid 90's, can touch 97, and has a nice cutter. Curve and changeup aren't good, but at least he has a get me over curve. A team like the O's needs all the bullpen depth it can get.
  14. And I'm guessing in another post you'll be blaming "snowflakes" for the politicizing of sports. There are a million other sites that you can talk politics on. This is the ONLY decent place I've seen to talk O's. It serves a purpose now for us unfortunate O's fans - why intentionally mess it up?
  15. I post in a football forum on another site, and we have a very similar situation. The lone moderator there called for a ban on politics a few months ago, and yet he often starts the political interruptions - which leads to others thinking it's fine to post on politics. The odd thing is that he's been called out on it at least twice that I've seen, then is good enough to apologize for it, and then he keeps doing it again.
  16. Thanks for the clarification on the rules - that's good to hear. In that vein (so to speak), I used to donate blood to the Red Cross blood bank every 2 to 3 months until one time when they said my blood tested positive for Hep C. They were good enough to lead me to having NIH re-test me, and NIH found that it was a false positive test - so I forwarded the results and conclusion to the Red Cross asking if they would accept my blood donations going forward. Their response was NO - even though they accepted the NIH results as proof that it was a false positive test. They said the reasoning was that I was likely to continue testing positive on their tests, and they were not going to change their tests. Years later, I asked them again - they said I'm permanently banned from donating to the blood bank, and there's nothing they can do about it. False positives can be very frustrating.
  17. They think the test could very well be a false positive. He'll get tested again today.
  18. Lol, don't go to a Pearl Jam concert if you don't want to hear their librul views. They've been doing that at their concerts from day 1. Watch their MTV Unplugged concert - see what he writes on himself. A plug for Unplugged.
  19. There's been absolutely no good reason mentioned for having political talk on this site. Hasn't it already been tried a couple of times and failed? Nothing has changed that will make the outcome any better. If anything, it'll be worse - and probably much worse.
  20. Someone gets it. ... though in truth, I'm not impressed with Nunez.
  21. Oh, I can outhit Nunez. I'd have Mountcastle in the lineup as soon as he's ready. They should be focused on developing their young players - the quicker the better - regardless of service time. Not playing them is not developing them.
  22. That actually might lead to a strategy; if you have 2 outs and no on in the 9th inning of a tie game, pinch hit your fastest guy. If he makes an out, he can start the 10th on 2nd. If he gets on in the 9th, have him try to steal. If he fails, he makes the last out, so he starts off the 10th on 2nd.
  23. Well, he's good at making outs.
