  1. Seems like Cole Wilcox would be hard to pass up. Mlb.com's mock had him at 19 overall, he looks the part as a long 6'5 fastballer with a slider and developing changeup, and some thought he wasn't far behind Emerson Hancock's talent at GA. But he doesn't have a big body of work - having missed a lot of 2019 - not to mention what happened in 2020, and he gets to enter the draft despite playing only 2 college seasons. I guess his lack of innings is going to make whoever picks him take it slow.
  2. Oh, we definitely need more than 1 middle of the order bat to compete. At least 2 - probably more.
  3. Ok, well at least those are reasons they liked him that I can understand - even if I think they drafted him too high. And the mocks that I saw had him going about where he went - some a little higher and some a little lower. Still, he's gotta make contact to make the exit velo count. They better have some starting pitchers targeted for at least rounds 2 and 3.
  4. I don't see an issue there. Mancini's a 1st baseman/DH, and Kjerstad's a RFer. There's zero reasons they can't play together as long as Mancini has his health, and Kjretad develops as they expect. Kjerstad's regarded as a solid if unspectacular defender.
  5. I don't get why the "experts" like Westburg. Ok, he's athletic, but... if he can't produce at the college level, why is he gonna produce in MLB? Seems like a complete waste of the 30th pick to me, and that simply can't happen in the situation the O's are in. .
  6. So, is Ben Zobrist the best comp to Austin Martin? I'd really stay away from comps to Rendon - who I thought was a freak prospect - because he combined the absurd hit tool with a very good... eh... power tool.
  7. Hoo knows what they were thinking. Btw, this is all Eddie's fault for saying "all jokes aside".
  8. Indeed, they do seem to have rather cavalier attitudes.
  9. BPA all the way. I'd lean toward Lacy over Martin, because a healthy Lacy seems to be pretty much a sure thing - if a pitcher can be a sure thing. I've heard Martin compared to Rendon, and that doesn't seem likely, but he should be a big-time OBP guy - maybe a little better version of Brian Roberts (with a bit more pop)? I'd be ok with that.
  10. I'm amazed it took the 3rd page for someone to mention Coggins.
  11. Me neither. I assume the info is from Ben Badler - who seems to be the expert on international doings. Just from that one video, the kids got a really nice looking swing.
  12. Whatever the O's reasoning, I think it's pretty clear that the message to Akin is that the organization doesn't believe in him.
  13. This is the time to be optimistic, and I'm not. Hopefully, the organization changes my mind by actually doing something impressive by this time next year, but so far... no.
  14. The WHIP is nice, but if he makes the O's rotation, he might set a record for giving up homers. He got crushed with homers playing for Seattle. And 33. Oh well, just a non-roster signing, so I'm not going to get upset about it.
  15. Yeah, seems like a better OBP guy than a hitter - if that makes sense. If he can get a .340 OBP, that's a table-setter we otherwise don't have.
  16. Tbh, not at all impressed that they acquired Lakins and not at all upset that they DFA'd Wilkerson.
  17. I don't see how anyone cares. Kline's 28 and is a mediocre at best bullpen arm. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but it's true.
  18. 4? I'd expect 6 in the top 100.
  19. 3 in the top 50 is good, but 3 in the top 100 for an organization who's MLB team is being historically bad year after year - indicates they're not where they really need to be - and we'll need to see that number go up next year - not that BA is the ultimate source but it at least gives us an idea of where we are vs the rest of the universe.
  20. If we're thinking of McCoy as some kind of potential answer, we got bigger problems than I thought - and I already think we have ginormous problems.
  21. It's stream on unconsciousness - if that's a thing or a word. I have to admit it - Maryland corned beef doesn't hold a candle to New York corned beef.

    2019 Atlanta Braves

I'm surprised the Braves signed Ozuna to an $18 million contract. They did need another body in the OF, but I think spending that kind of money on him is ridiculous - regardless that it's just 1 year. He's coming off a meh 107 OPS+ season where he played a poor LF and made some key defensive blunders in the NL playoffs. I think he had the uggliest defensive play of the year - when he climbed the fence readying to make a circus catch - only to then watch as the ball landed on the OF and then bounced over the fence - as he then tumbled to the ground looking like he hurt himself. Amazingly, he's a 2-time all-star and 1 time gold glover.
  23. C'mon you're smarter than that. I don't like McCann's insistence on the "unwritten rules of baseball" but there's no equivalency between his blabbering about that and someone basically accusing him of participating in what's widely perceived as a huge scandal - like the worst think since sliced corned beef - and yes your name veered me off in the wrong direction. What were we talking about - the unwritten rules of Orioles Hangout? I haven't even read the written rules yet. Hmm, having an odd craving for sauerkraut.

  25. Seems like very unprofessional speculation - to be nice. McCann whining too much about the unwritten rules of baseball has no relation to whether or not he participated, so what's the point of the article - other than a bad writer taking a cheap shot?
