I think pitching in the AL specifically in the AL East matters compared to pitching in the NL especially. But, that being said, we have a real problem with starting pitching. It could be drafting, development or coaching or all three or something else but we have an issue.
How about one thread for updates on how our former players are doing? We could use it for Machado, Schoop, etc... that were traded this year or even if we want to include players that left us years ago.
I'm really curious on theories of what happened to Davis. Was it steroids and he's off of them? Adderall? Pressure of signing the big contract? Huge regression that was just natural? Someone kicked his dog? I could deal with the big strikeouts but he had the HR's as well. He may not have gotten hits but he used to have a good eye and would pick up walks to help his OBP.
I've wondered why we track the wear on an arm two different ways. In a game, we go by a pitch count, but in a season we go by innings. Shouldn't we use a pitch count for the entire season? 100 innings for one pitcher could mean a whole lot more pitches than another pitcher.
It seems rare to me that a free agent acquisition ever ends up being worth the contract they receive. Can ya'll remember many that did? Maybe some small ones, but I am thinking the really big ones, like top tier?
