    Creed Willems 2023

Hit HR#4 today! Great start for him! He looked overmatched last year, but is certainly off to a great start. I hate that John Kruk picture- I met him in Philadelphia many years ago and he was a total jerk....
  2. don't forget "Dud" Fabian.... (Just kidding!)
  3. Wow, he's been unbelievably bad... I know he's young and a rookie and it's only been a few starts, but I never thought he'd be ERA 10.00 runs a game bad... Could he be hurt??
  4. How's his defense in outfield? Is he going to be converted into a First Baseman? Or is he serviceable in the outfield?
  5. Plenty of others to go around- Wagner, Beavers, Cowser, But at least so far some HOT starts from Haskin, Willems, Basallo, Kjerstad, Holliday, Prieto and very good to see some great pitching from Bright, McDermott, Povich!
  6. 5 HR in 8 games. That's serious power...!
  7. They continue to kill the team offensively.... Not sure what the right thing to do is.... just have to hope they start hitting.... at some point send Gunnar back down? Seemed inconceivable at one point, but he looks pretty lost up there.....

0-2 with 2 K's tonight making him 0-18... His confidence must be shot by now.... What would you do to try to help him? Sit him? Put him in Delmarva? Change his stance/swing? Something's got to be done to try to help the poor guy....

I was living in Chicago when rookie Robin Ventura went 0-41 (and committed 23 errors in the field during that spell!).... He turned out o.k. (I'm not saying Wagner will be another Robin Ventura.... just pointing out that great hitters can have prolonged slumps sometimes....!)
  11. Need to start getting some hits....!!! I'm not sure what Grayson's trouble is.... he's showed much better command and control in the past than he has this spring....
  12. Honest question. I'm not saying we're bad.... We'd probably be fine in any other division, but it still looks like everyone in the A.L. East is still better than we are.... I know, it's early, small sample size, etc... but it's hard to envision finishing higher than New York, Tampa, Toronto...

Tough way to start the year 0-12. Hopefully he comes around soon...
  14. Another 0-4 with another Golden Sombrero today.... #officiallygettingworried
  15. Kodai Senga would have looked good in an Oriole Uniform....
  16. Good point. Sometimes, I confuse patience and selectivity with looking lost up there!
  17. I am very concerned about Gunnar. I watched a few Spring Training games and he looked lost at the plate. Today in the first real game he continued to look lost...
  18. Britton's year was as dominant a closer's season as I could ever recall.... any stat-heads out there know of which seasons were most dominant among closers? It was a shame he couldn't stay healthy or repeat his success...
  19. Relievers tend to be overvalued and volatile. Plus there's always the risk of injury too....
  20. Fair points.... but the Mets might just be the team to do that "stupid overpay"...!
  21. I wonder if the O's fall out of playoff contention at some point if we could dangle Bautista as trade bait for some top talent? (assuming he's healthy).
  22. He ruptured his patellar tendon while jumping up and down to celebrate Puerto Rico's WBC Quarterfinal victory. I don't know which type of injury I think is worse: the "celebration" injury or the "Angry" injury when a player causes himself grievous injury because they are furious over a strikeout or something.... I was at the Northwestern-Wisconsin football game in 1995 (The "Rose Bowl" year for Northwestern fans). Northwestern lost their All-American Placekicker Sam Valenzisi at the end of that game- he tore his ACL jumping up and down celebrating a kickoff that went out of the end zone for a touchback.... Kind of a dumb thing to celebrate too...
  23. I saw that he ranked 590 out of 594 pitchers in 4 seam fastball success. Opponents hit .321 against it with a whopping slugging percentage. Speed was fine- close to 96 MPH average. Experts say the pitch is too straight. It get hit a ton because it doesn't have velocity. Can anyone work with him on changing his grip or something to give it more movement or sink or something?
  24. I'm in favor of your second suggestion. Maybe MLB should institute a salary FLOOR in addition to a salary cap....!
  25. Certainly, the Orioles could spend more money. But I don't think they can ever spend as much as NY or LA, or Bos. At least they should limit International Free Agency spending by order of finish- Teams with the worst 5 records can spend $5 million, next worst 5 teams can spend $3 million, so on and so on... Teams that finished in the playoffs can spend the least....
