  1. '92 was a strange year. Chris Hoiles hit 20 HR but only drove in 40 RBI. I wonder if that's a record for fewest RBI in a 20 HR season? Seems that would be almost impossible to beat....!?
  2. If we have to use Adley at catcher: McAnn? Westburg? Urias? Mountcastle? (put Westburg/Urias at 1B?) It's a good question. We have too many lefties. We also have too much "dead wood"- Mateo, Urias, Kemp (why on earth is he on the team?)
  3. I generally get annoyed at Grammar police on these boards... but when I read this post I initially thought Pinto had done something publicly embarrassing! (The sentence should read "Definitely a shame for Pinto")
  4. The woman who tried to pursue the legal case clearly was up to no good. There is video showing her smiling and unharmed after the supposed assault took place. She referred to Bauer as "her next victim" in texts- clearly trying to exploit his fame and fortune. I've never met Bauer or spoken with him. By many people's accounts he's a jerk, opinionated, narcissistic, and could potentially disrupt a clubhouse. I want his pitching for the Orioles, I don't want him for the Orioles.... If I were a last place team, I'd sign him and flip him for good prospects. That's a cheap deal for a top pitcher and as the season wears on and teams suffer casualties, someone will need him and give up prospects for him...
  5. Agree. Not true. Someone will sign him. I think if Gerritt Cole's injury shelves him for a bit, the Yankees might roll the dice...
  6. Did anyone see his 3 inning exhibition? Hit 99 MPH three times in the first inning. Splitter looked unhittable. I hear he's a complete jerk, but the stuff is TOR stuff...
  7. by trade or FA signing.... I think we must add one. Injuries happen. Even if a pitcher is lucky enough to avoid a serious injury, there are always tweaks and minor things that cause starters to miss a start here and there, even things like finger blisters. Second, beyond Wells and Irwin there aren't any starters with track records. We'd be forced to go with Zimmerman, Povich, McDermott, or Seth Johnson....
  8. Changing my vote. Bauer (aside from all of the off the field baggage) pitched only ok in the Japanese league but wasn't totally dominant.... Changing my vote to Blake Snell! Who is also a pipe dream....
  9. Trevor Bauer (I duck at all the rotten tomatoes thrown at me)
  10. Or I'd sign Bauer to a 1 year prove-it deal, but with contract clauses that he can't give any interviews and he must stay off of all social media...
  11. Did they say whether Bradish's injury is distal or proximal? Proximal UCL injury can heal without surgery. Distal almost always results in surgery. I must admit, compare the following 2 rotations: Burnes, Bradish, Rodriguez, Means, Kremer and Burnes, Rodriguez, Kremer, Wells, Irvin. I'd give the first an A. The second a C+. Ouch. I'd sign Ryu to a one year prove-it deal. Then I'd hope and pray. If you sign Montgomery or Snell to a 8 year deal, you'll pay outrageous sums for 5 years of non-pitching...
  12. Add Snell!!!! Rotation: Snell Burnes Bradish Rodriguez Means I smell a World Champion!
  13. 1. Bradish 2. Rodriguez 3. Means 4. Kremer 5. best of Irvin/Hall/Wells/Povich/McDermott/Johnson/Zimmerman???? Yikes... definitely need another starter. Just hope we don't have to give up too many prospects.....!
  14. I'm somewhat surprised that there hasn't been more outrage over this. A championship caliber team just added the best hitter and best pitcher available for $1 billion. Yes, I know that is no guarantee of a World Series title.... I never harbored any hope that the Orioles would be in on expensive free agents of that magnitude. But this has gone from ridiculous to outright insanity. MLB is all smiles as the big market teams will do well and generate revenues for MLB. MLB does not care at all about parity, competitive spirit, even competition, ticket prices that fans have to pay, and MLB certainly does not care about any teams outside of NY, California, or Texas. Greed is ruining this sport entirely. Greed among the owners and among the players. It's becoming almost impossible to enjoy the game at this point...
  15. I'd rather pass on Cease and keep Norby, Ortiz, Kjerstad and Cowser in the system. I know you have to give up value to get value. But the cost to acquire good starting pitching in terms of money and prospects has inflated so astronomically that I start to wonder if we might just be better off auditioning Povich, McDermott, Seth Johnson, Cole Irvin and seeing if anyone can stick...? I'd probably be willing to part with Beavers, Wagner, Fabian, Stowers and I can see maybe trading one top guy (but not Mayo, Holliday or Basallo).
  16. I've seen it attributed to Mark Twain and Benjamin Franklin...
  17. Ancient Chinese Proverb. I think I got it in a fortune cookie once...
  18. "Two people can keep a secret if one of them is dead."
  19. These asking prices for Free Agent and Trades return for Starting Pitching are at an-all time astronomical high. That asking price for Cease is starting at insane and may go beyond insane when the bidding is done.... I'd rather go with Bradish, Rodriguez, Means, Kremer, and Hall, and whoever emerges from McDermott, Povich, Johnson, Wells, and Irwin and keep my prospects.... or do what we've always done and sign a lower tier Free Agent starter and hope for the best....
  20. I saw DL Hall serve up a mammoth HR on a 99 MPH fastball at Camden Yards this year. My son (a pitcher) was amazed... "How the heck can someone throw so hard and get hit like that?". I guess it's a control issue. ML hitters can (somehow) hit 100 MPH pitches so you have to keep them out of the sweet part of the hitting zone.... As for Tony- my favorite part of OH every year is the prospect scouting reports and write ups. It's literally the reason I stay connected to the site and the thing I look foward to most every season. Keep up the incredible work!
