  1. 62 games played thus far this season, and 100 more to go. The O's and Royals are tied for worst record in the league at 19-43.
  2. Here are Elias' 11th round choices as the Astros' Scouting Director. In 2012 they took HS LHP Hunter Virant, but he went unsigned In 2013 they took HS RHP Devonte German and signed him over-slot for $300,000 (also went over-slot w/ 10th rounder) In 2014 they took College RHP Dan Deetz and signed him for $100,000 In 2015 they took HS LHP Patrick Sandoval and signed him over-slot for $900,000 In 2016 they took College RHP Chad Donato and signed him for $100,000 In 2017 they took College RHP Brandon Bielak and signed him for $150,000 In 2018 they took College RHP Brett Conine and signed him for $125,000
  3. The O's start the day with pick #79, the 1st selection of the 3rd round. For reference, the O's picked Austin Hays with pick #91 in 2016, Zac Lowther with pick #74 in 2017, and Blaine Knight with pick #87 in 2018.
  4. Gunnar Henderson: SS, John T. Morgan Academy (AL), L/R, 6' 3 195lbs, DOB:06/29/01 (still 17) Great pick... may wind up at third, but either way, a great pick.

  6. I've been watching the draft with my brother and father, and we all wanted Rutschman. There were high fives all around. =) Let's get some more high upside talent with these other picks!
  7. Maybe Vaughn can return the favor and get Brett back on track? Maybe not...
  8. Updated the OP with this> The O's will be receiving a Competitive Balance Round A selection in 2020, which will likely be around pick 35.
  9. Which position, between catcher and SS, do you feel has more of an impact in any given game? For me, as has been stated numerous times throughout these threads, the answer is far and away catcher. A catcher is involved in every single pitch while we are on the field, whereas a shortstop is involved in a fair number of batted balls and other situations like covering a bag or relays.
  10. Much appreciated Luke. I'm intrigued by a slew of guys for the O's 42nd and 71st picks, including LHP Antoine Kelly, OF Trejyn Fletcher, RHP Ryan Garcia, SS Matthew Lugo, and 3B/1B/OF Rece Hinds. I wasn't familiar with RHP Andrew Dalquist, but he'd be another to consider. Good stuff, as always.
  11. I think this is just Mayo reporting what's he's heard, but the odds are still pretty high we're going Rutschman.

  14. Welcome to the Hangout and Thank You for giving us that heads up. =)
  15. I'm a big Callis guy since way back in the early years of Baseball America. I used to call and chat with him on the phone, most often about the Orioles drafts. He was always cool with me and he's well-connected. I appreciate you sharing this.
  16. BTW, I wonder if anyone wants to get together and watch this live Monday night? That would be fun.
  17. I'm strongly behind Rutschman, though picking Witt would be understandable. If the 'well under-slot' scenario plays out and someone other than the Top Two gets selected, I'll be quite disappointed, but root like crazy for whomever it is (and those added later with the savings) and remain faithful to Elias' process. I'm very excited to see how Elias' first draft plays out. I know I'm not alone!
