  1. Never started one before so if I "F" it up, pardon this interruption in your regularly scheduled programming. But "What If". Last year there was thread about the WAR for teams qualifying for Playoffs and my memory says if you got to 25 WAR you were fighting for a WC berth. What if: Outfield of MC, Hays, Santander, with Gold Glove-caliber defense from Mullins, is giving you 8.5 WAR. Infield: 3B, SS, 2B giving you 3 WAR, Mancini is his 2019 self and Stewart takes to DH and they combine for 5.5 War and C chips in another 1.5 War. We are at 18.5. They go with a 6-man rotation to reduce innings load and all 6 starters are healthy and producing average results and the bullpen is above average, assume that gets you to 25 WAR. Zimmerman, Lowther, Baughman are dominating AAA and Grayrod and Hall are ready to move up to AAA. It's the end of July, O's are in WC spot, 300 M have been vaccinated and crowds are coming back to OPACY to see Mancini, Felix and Harvey. Put on your Orange-colored glasses (approved by WC) and pretend you are ME,  "Watta ya gonna do"?? Sell hi and move Santander, Mancini and vet pitchers for prospects? Go out and get a piece or 2 for a run? Stand pat??

    Chris Holt begs to differ:

Gotta love the “pitches coming out of his hand looked very true” comment, too.   Holt’s quickly getting the hang of the major league pitching coach cliches.

You forgot the "Delivery looks like he’s on time", that's a new one.

His final album has some real tear-jerking songs that hit the mark about the aging process and the memories of those lost.  He was definitely not far from my thoughts during this covid process.  He even has a song about dying and the hereafter that makes you smile.

I'm only a few years behind you but Sam Stone, Illegal Smile, Hello in There, and Paradise rank up there with Angel from Montgomery, for me. All on the debut album in 1971 with even more good stuff.

You set me down in a restaurant and hand me a menu with the only two dishes being Chopped Liver and Hotcakes and I'll get the Hotcakes every time.

Jeez man, use the colored font, I spit my beer all over the keyboard and monitor over that one. Well done and I agree COMPLETELY!!

Pretty sure MASN has decided not to put it's channels on streaming platforms like YouTube TV or Hulu.

One of the first reports I read mentioned cable or streaming services like Hulu but that was used as an example so.....

I guess it depends what you mean by well-educated.    Take a look at the OH poll here:

Only 22.5% strongly opposed it.   I was in the next group, “worried.”   The majority either said “love it” or “like it a lot.”

There was no reason to expect the contract to be the fiasco that it’s been.    There were plenty of reasons to think Davis would be unproductive by the back half of his deal.

This is weird, I remember there were like 20 or so of us who voted against the signing in January 2016 but this view shows another group in fall of 2017 joining the poll.

    Did it get re-opened, I can't tell?

  7. The Washington Nationals have made another addition to their lineup. The club signed outfielder Kyle Schwarber to a one-year contract worth a guaranteed $10 million on Saturday, Jim Bowden of CBS Sports HQ has confirmed. The Nationals have since announced the signing.

Schwarber, 28 in March, was non-tendered by the Cubs last month. He was projected to earn approximately $8 million through arbitration in 2021, though the abbreviated 60-game season has thrown a wrench into arbitration models. Schwarber had a poor 2020 season, hitting .188/.308/.393 with 11 home runs in 59 games.

I can envision a scenario in which ownership commits to spending into the red in contending years if Elias is willing to keep payroll as lean as reasonably possible in the rebuilding years that precede that window.

Peter did that under Buck and we are paying for that miscalculation now (Davis + lost prospects like Hader, Davies). I have ZERO faith that John A will do that but I could be wrong. I think ME will have to demonstrate a business=case ROI on any FA acquisition.

I am 6’2” and in my youth had rather limited hops.   On my best day I could get my fingers maybe 1-2” over the rim.  But I often wondered, if someone offered me a million dollars if I could dunk a basketball within a year, whether I would have been motivated enough and able to train myself to do it.     Obviously it ain’t happening now at age 63, but at 22-23 I think I could have done it if it was worth it to me.

I'm 6' (at least I once was) and 71. I used to be able to grab the rim. I had a friend on the UMD freshman team ( they had such a thing back in the day) who said I should be able to dunk. He lobbed the ball up at the rim for me. I had a few bang off the back of the rim but none went down. Good memories. Now I'm gonna have to setup the kids old rim, haha.

  10. Do we know if he has both a 4 seam and a 2 seam FB? Wouldn't a 4 seam play up in the strike zone and the 2 seam play down and lead to GBs? Assuming they are thrown with the same motion, would that give him another pitch in the mix so he wouldn't need to show the curve as much?

  11. I will apologize in advance for the opinion I'm about to voice but CD's MLB career is over and has been for about 5 years and he is here now because they (bros Angelos) hope to save some money in 2021 if games are cancelled. CD's latest line about his experience in TX is pure BS. he came here and continued to fail, spending countless hours in the weight room and batting cage, practicing the same thing that failed in TX. Then in 2011 or 2012 or so our then hitting coach got thru to him and they went back to basics, literally hitting off a tee to get him to stay closed and go the other way. It took awhile but 2013 was the result, coach left in 2014 for personal reasons and CD reverted in 2015. The rest is history. CD IMO is lost in his denial and his excuses are weak. I have reconstructed the timeline before here years ago but I'm too tired to even go look for it now. I'm doing this from memory and I could be off on the details but he did change before and then  reverted and has stubbornly refused to change again. Keep him until the 2021schedule length is determined, if they save money fine, if not cut him or play a man short in  2021. He needs to go sooner than later.

1 Elias didn't spend all his allotment on the draft.

2 Elias didn't spend all his allotment on the International market.

Relative to the first point, We had about $250K that wasn't allotted but we also signed a bunch of non-drafted guys for $20 K so are we sure it wasn't actually spent? Relative to point 2, player's bonuses from some countries (Venezuela??) aren't reported due to safety concerns so we really don't know what was actually spent. You may be right but there is no way to actually know.

Figure Mountcastle is up all year so that makes him the strongest ROY candidate.   Mountcastle comes up in the second half sometime and is more of an impact player but arrives too late for ROY consideration.

Personally, I’m not sure we’ll see Rutschman in 2021.   But perhaps we will.

Who do you think is coming up in second half?? Diaz?

I am calm, which is unusual after a political discussion with my Millennial son and 3 glasses of red. You didn't use green font so I was addled, yeah that's the ticket!!! ?
