That is all true. However, when the O's have Mancini and Mountcastle at DH/1B plus Santander, Stewart, Hays, and Mullins in the OF. With Diaz coming soon. There are not many at bats for Nunez whether he is average or not.
Diaz will not be up on opening Day, maybe mid-season. You need Hays and Mullins to cover CF due to injury risk and weak offensive performance. Mountcastle will be given every chance to improve reads and jumps in LF. When Diaz does show up he will beat out Santander for RF then you decide to move Santander to LF and Mountcastle to 1B or not. You can't plan on Mancini being there next year, odds are long. It won't be Mountcastle at 1B until and unless he fails to improve in LF. Stewart will go to DH or bench

I think what while a RoY is a great big deal for the player that wins, in the grand scheme of things it is a very small deal.
I'd rather not fiddle with it, I just don't see the need. If someone eventually wins two, big woop.

In large part I agree with you, but that just makes my frustration greater. We have two or three pitchers Who are ready to come up and contribute, but instead we continued with Hess way too long. I don’t mind giving Phillips and Carroll their auditions, But they are both terrible, and it’s time to let somebody else replace them. Carroll is gone, at least, but why did it take so long to give Akin an audition? Even when he was finally brought up he just sat around.
I would enjoy watching a lot more if I could see some of those arms, and not see some of the other arms.
Of the arms you posted you would like to see (in another thread) I believe only Kremer is on the current 40 man. He had a late start at Bowie (injury) and is now being stretched out. Lowther and Pop were both recovering from injury as well. I doubt ME makes any 40 man changes until he is forced to over the rest of this abbreviated season.

I think we are going to close the book on this season in the next week or so.
Maybe from the perspective of WC's giddy, SSS-fueled, playoff optimism. But if Mountcastle stays in the lineup, Akin and Kremer join soon and Hays rejoins there are some interesting stories to track for the last 30 games. That combined with what looks like a Santander breakout and hope for Means to regain form, at least for me, all is not lost.

Yes but his skill set is redundant when the O's have Dwight Smith on the team.
OMG, I think that Weams's head just exploded!!!!!

He's a strategic asset held in reserve.
Nah, the concentration of middle infielders on the right side because of the shift is a potential violation of social distancing guidelines so Hyde is acting out of an abundance of caution to preserve opponents health and the continuation of the season.

It's too early in the morning, but my favorite two teams of all time are '89 and '12. And yes, I was there for the '83 season when they won it all.
Yeah 2012 was very nice, especially when DD announced he expected them to be over .500 and nobody took him seriously. And 89 was fun too but for me it is 82 and the gradual, almost inevitable chipping away at the deficit week after week until that last series in Memorial stadium, weeping the double header to force a 1 game season. Ended badly but for almost 2 months there was just tension and excitement. To me that failure in 82 setup the 83 win, they were not about to fail again. And I'm old enough to remember the 61 crew so there, but that is another story.

Well if they are still playing .625 ball after the next 14 games I'm certain SOMEONE would take notice and give credit.

Maybe the return is a trashcan?
Probably just the lid and the can was beaten like a drum lol.

Number 8 for Gunnar???

So is he an unrestricted FA now that can sign with anyone? Could we add him to the 60 but not the 40 just to get an in person look?

Why take Castro out after 3 pitches?

Any bets on how long Milone lasts in the rotation?
That depends on how they use him going forward. His track record says 1 time thru the lineup. Pair him with another multi inning guy and you might get 5-6 innings out of the tandem. If you assume Means, Cobb, Leblanc can hold rotation spots, pitch them 1, 3, 5 in the rotation and use spots 2 and 4 to test drive tandem paired starters. Pick your best 4 multi innings guys and pair them up to mix pitching styles, handed-ness (is that a word?), whatever their analytics suggest. Breaking up the tandem starts may help save the bullpen and you get more of a chance to see everyone before the cut to 28. In this train wreck of a season why not experiment? If it blows up in our faces what does it matter as we are likely the worst team on paper already.

O's are 16-3 in the last 19 Opening Days. Pretty amazing, as we only had a winning team in 5 of those 19 years.
Only time we lost recently 2019 was the only OD I have ever gone to so I swore I'll never go again. If Trey makes it back though I'm going.

I was just planning on posting music in the game thread.
I should probably just message you but I clicked so here goes. Not sure why you brought you Steve Winwood recently but back in the day I was a big fan. Around 1970-71 he released a tri-fold album with all his stuff to date. I had a friend at the campus radio station who got a copy and brought it back to the dorm. I loved it, it got recalled because Winwood got sued by Spenser Davis , but my friend conveniently "lost" it. I still have it in a box somewhere. I wonder if it is worth anything? Are you a Winwood fan?

I SHOULD have thought of that but this popped into my head...
Yeah I went there as well but the "old friend" part of the OP saved me haha.
-
Would he require a 40 man spot if we traded someone for him?
-
If we play the full 60 I say 21 wins.

None in the cut from 30 to 28 but 2 when they go down to 26. I'm assuming he likes # 27 player from someone else more thansome of the duplicative infielders and fungible 1 inning relievers on our 60 man roster..

I wasn’t the only one .... @Can_of_corn was the guy saying it was a D*** move. I gave my opinion. I get it, it’s a fan site and there will be homerism. At least have the intestinal fortitude to admit it.
Wait, I'm just seeing this response. So you are accusing me on not having "the intestinal fortitude to admit" I'm a homer????? Really???? I didn't like Martin before the draft and wanted Lacy. I want no part of Boras and any player that picks him, I believe he is bad for the game. I agree with SG that Martin's value pre-draft was tied to staying on the left side or CF. I don't believe he will because of arm. So WC's argument again pre-draft, that we shouldn't spend 1-2 on a good 2B is valid to me. But in your world that means I lack intestinal fortitude and am a homer, for the egregious offense of not agreeing with you. Wow

Please stop, this has been a dead horse for months. FTR I agree with you but it will be a few years before we know the result.
