  1. It depends on the assets and the "rental," IMO. I can't say either way if I like the idea of it or not until there are actual names leaving our organization and an SP coming back. And if that SP comes back, is there a chance we could sign him until after this year? Too many variables to know. But if we're going with your gambling analogy, we've gotta try to stack the odds in our favor sooner or later.
  2. I like Coulombe because he doesn't throw anything straight. Everything moves, everything has good break and shape to it. He's not a classic power arm, but I think he's been really effective. I understand your hesitations with him, definitely and I don't want him to be a #3 guy either but I do believe he's a really good piece. He'd probably be a LOOGY before that role became extinct.
  3. Just want to get to the playoffs. IMO, a lot of you guys aren't taking things into consideration. You've gotta get incredibly lucky to win it all, so much has to go right. You've gotta get hot at the right time...I mean, we're all feeling good right now because we're on a 5 game winning streak and playing well, but what if we reach the playoffs and we're playing like we did a couple weeks ago? If we're playing in the playoffs like we did against Cleveland, we're probably a first round bounce. Starting pitching has to be pretty on point, especially in a 5 game series where there's less room for a clunker. What if Kremer or Bradish goes out and can't get out of the third inning and the bullpen is already stretched thin? Gotta be relatively injury free. What if we get to the playoffs and Mullins groin/hamstring gets pulled? What if Gunnar or Adley goes down the week before the playoffs? So it's not "just getting to the playoffs" but it really is because so much has to happen FOR your team to succeed that's just beyond "we won 95 games this year, I like our chances."
  4. I get it, people want to think that the guy they landed who was on the outs for another team is going to go on a tear and become completely legit. And it happens with a guy like Jose Bautista or Max Muncy from time to time. But the moaning and groaning over a heater in the first couple weeks is over the top and silly.
  5. It's not just with the bat, apparently. Seems like he's old Jeter in the field, too, which is hilarious.
  6. If the Yankees are a dumb fanbase, we must be complete dolts because we got fooled by Mateo and a toe tap.
  7. It's nice to have guys that get on base at a good clip instead of teams past made up of guys like Jones, Schoop and Trumbo who would swing from their heels all the time and flail away at anything/everything. I agree with the assessment that there hasn't been a time where the offense has been hitting on all cylinders but guys with the plate discipline in the lineup help keep the minor dry spells to a minimum.
  8. IMO, it goes: Cano Bautista Coulombe Baker Baumann Akin Givens (15 IL) Voth Perez I don't see how they keep Perez around for much longer, which is a shame considering how great he was last year. But as the 2023 season goes on, it's becoming more and more apparent that last year was an outlier for him and he's a casualty of reliever volatility. The same goes for Voth. There's a fairly significant delta from the top of the group to the middle to the bottom. Then there are guys like Vespi who do well in the minors but haven't translated that success into ML performance. Gillaspie is inessential, IMO. IMO, this unit needs some tightening up as the season goes on and I have to think that it'll come from trades. Reed Garrett is doing well in Norfolk and I think we'll see him at some point, but he hasn't much of a track record in the majors to go off of. There's the neverending DL Hall Quandary, too.
  9. As always, **** the Yankees. Seriously, guys have been going there for years, seemingly over the hill and/or underperforming and all of a sudden they turn it around. They’ve also wasted way more money over the years than they have on Aaron Hicks. I love that he came here and we found something to rejuvenate him. I hope he goes off on the Yankees when we play them next. Two big middle fingers up at the Yankees and their fans for acting like this could never happen to them.
  10. Lol of course. I mean, the odds of the Jays scoring 5 more with 2 out are very low. But the fact that they’ve made this significantly harder than it needed to be is annoying as ****.
  11. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/37849067/orioles-place-1b-ryan-mountcastle-il-vertigo What an unlucky dude. On and off the field.
  12. Unlucking himself into a 64 strikeout, 12 walk season so far. Woof.
  13. I think you and Kevin Brown need to go get drinks and hold the first meeting of the "Ryan Mountcastle is Unlucky Apologist Club." Facts, though.
  14. Dude, stop. I get the unlucky argument, but after almost a season and a half, it's tiresome and it starts to ring hollow. He can go try to get lucky somewhere else, cause clearly he was born under a bad sign in Baltimore.
  15. Hays plays the outfield and has been known to play it pretty well. I understand your comparison, however Hays's OBP is still propped up by whatever his batting average is. He's hitting .301 this year, so his on base percentage is .339 and his OPS is .830. He's also injury free so far this year, too. But your other point is that Hays is trending up, Mountcastle has been trending down. Hays is having a career year...I am wondering if Mountcastle has already had his. At least, in Baltimore. Per SG, some of the statcast stuff is good and I don't discount that entirely but that also sounds like Kevin Brown saying he's unlucky. Mountcastle has been unlucky for well over a whole MLB season now, it's tiresome.
  16. I can't imagine a team with terrible 1st base production thinking that Ryan Mountcastle is some sort of an upgrade.
  17. Good, then send him to AAA. I doubt that goes over well but I also don't care. I'd rather just give the job to O'Hearn full time, let Tony start at 1B vs LHP if O'Hearn can't hit it and bring up Cowser.
