  1. I hope he fails miserably. The 2020s Mike Hampton or something.
  2. I’m refusing to get my hopes up about the next offseason. I hope you guys have learned your lesson.
  3. If they can spend 18 this year there’s no reason they can’t spend another 18 next year.
  4. God this is stupid. Signing a middle infielder for 8 million with Gunnar, Urias, Mateo and Westburg and Ortiz on the horizon is so dumb. 18 million for Gibson and Frazier, could have just spent it on Bassitt or Walker. Unreal.
  5. I think that’s fair but I also think it’s fair to fire away as the off-season progresses. Or in this case, regresses. Jump in, Frob. The water is warm.
  6. Is this the same Wacha that shut us out with 85 mph slop this year? He’ll probably be terrible here. Would be sneaky good somewhere else.
  7. Syndergaard is still a bit of a name. No chance he'd ever have considered coming here unless it was the only option. Look at where he's played, he wants to be in the big markets.
  8. I wanted Cueto last year. His k-rate is terrible but he seems to have settled into that crafty junkballer part of his career fairly well. A one year deal might be okay but at his age the wheels might come completely off. He doesn't strike anyone out, he doesn't get swings and misses. Again, Cueto by himself wouldn't be terrible as a 5th starter. Cueto paired with our other big signing of Kyle Gibson isn't good.
  9. Look, it's built into the plural of their last name. They've been telling us who they are the entire time.
  10. From your keyboard to God's ears, not sure how that's gonna happen but I'm willing to find out! She's 25, I'm 41. So we're consenting adults. Plus I figure if Sweeney would ever be interested in me, it'll be because I've somehow come into a metric ****load of money and have purchased the Orioles and some other fun things. If she's with me at that point, rest assured that it's not because of my dashing good looks and prolific sports message board posting history. I'm sure we'll both be comfortable with the arrangement.
  11. I would say that ours has the most question marks and could easily be the worst. Each of the rotations listed has a true "Damn, that guy is a stud" at the #1 spot, we don't. We've got a guy that could be there in G-Rod.
  12. Don't know where to put this and it doesn't really warrant it's own thread but I figured some of you guys would like this. I found it interesting but the actual negotiations seem pretty basic.
  13. No one's freaking out about the Rays because no one here is a Rays fan, duh.
  14. Damn, no opt out, full no trade. Per Heyman so who knows if that’s true. Most money ever for a SS. Turned down 160 last year.
  15. Correa to the Giants. 13/350. No chance I’d have done that for that dude.
  16. I think it makes us a strong playoff contender. But get in the playoffs and anything can happen.
  17. I forgot about Franchy! Man, we needed someone to take on Odor’s production. How could I forget?
  18. I believe the FA portion of the off-season is largely over. Few players remain that we would be of interest and make a difference. Like I said earlier, you can say, “It’s December 13th!” all you want but it doesn’t change that a lot of players we could have used have found new homes and Kyle Gibson and Nomar Mazara and a Rule 5 guy are our only additions. Elias has shown to be aggressive in precisely only one area when it comes to transactions and that’s deadline deals. That’s the only time he’s been aggressive in player acquisitions when not related to scouting and drafting. We can quibble back and forth on whether or not he’s being held back by the Angelos clan in regards to spending and that’s fine. But he’s never been aggressive in free agency and he’s never been aggressive in offseason trades. I don’t expect that to change now. I’m just going off a track record of what I’ve observed. But if you want to keep saying the off-season “still ain’t over yet!” by all means, go ahead.
  19. Well, fair enough. Like I said, the lines are a bit blurry. However, the market got off to a hot start, teams have been throwing around money, making deals and we've been rendered to the sidelines. There are not a lot of players left that make sense for us. The FA market has been fast paced, and either Elias wasn't prepared for it or wasn't interested in it. I'll say given how the market has gone, there wasn't a lot of time to be patient with the way that talent could have helped us and we could have afforded flew off the market.
