  1. I hate salads, by and large. Caesar's are about all I can stomach.
  2. This is quite a word salad to say that people are underrating Maverick Handley.
  3. We've had Elias at the helm for a few years now, enough to start understanding patterns and trends, I believe. I've stated before that the only time Elias seems aggressive on the trade market is at the deadline during the season. He's never been aggressive via trades in the offseason and I don't expect that to change right now. The McCann trade was nice, it addressed a need but it's not going to be anything that helps vault this team to the next level.
  4. I'm not sure what that has to do with anything. He was an editor for Digital Content at NBC. I'm sure he'll be fine in this role.
  5. This is silly. He shouldn't be waiting for "at its peak." Oftentimes, you don't know when something has been at its peak until the moment has passed. Both.
  6. IMO, it seems like a vicious cycle to fall into. Afraid of giving multi-year contracts before the 2023 season because it'll impact future seasons. Afraid of giving multi-year contracts before the 2024 season because it'll impact future seasons. Afraid of giving multi-year contracts before the 2025 season because it'll impact future seasons. Contracts like Davis, Cobb and Ubaldo shouldn't have kept this franchise from spending money...and I'm not advocating spending like a drunken sailor, but spending wisely...which could have been done this offseason. If we got Bassitt for the deal that the Jays got him for and he flopped, we should be able to absorb that and it shouldn't prohibit us from making other moves. The only thing that is holding up the Orioles, IMO, is the fear of making bad moves. And I think that goes hand-in-hand a bit with penny-pinching but it's whatever at this point. The cost of impacting future seasons isn't just reserved for shying away from multi-year deals because of fear. It's also allowing the fear to keep you from getting in the game.
  7. If we get Archer, even on a Harvey deal, I will pee on the Warehouse.
  8. From the looks of it, he's not buying into the 2023 team, either. BuT tHe oFfSeAsOn iSn'T oVeR!!!111
  9. I believe Elias is looking for better performance from a full year of Adley, a full year of Gunnar and the debut of Grayson Rodriguez and whatever innings he can provide. Gibson might do a Lyles impression, Frazier is better than Odor (which is a low bar to hurdle, he's still not worth 8 million), McCann is a better backup catcher than Chirinos (another low bar to hurdle) and Givens should be a solid bullpen piece. But they're banking on the real improvement coming from 2nd year players and rookies which is a dicey proposition. It could work well, it could fail miserably. It's a pretty pathetic overall approach though, there were free agents that could have bolstered the rotation and it's terrible that we weren't ever in the running for them.
  10. Seeing this, I would simply like the Orioles to take the Braves approach of locking up talent early. That definitely starts with Adley and probably Gunnar. This is what the Braves are good at and they'll most likely continue to field great teams through the end of the decade. Trading for Murphy was a great move on their part, then locking him up with a good deal was an even better move. I'd like to see the Orioles be this forward thinking and fully commit to their homegrown talent...or really, any talent in their mid 20s they acquire who can be identified as a core piece. The Murphy deal will look like a bargain in the next couple of years if he continues to play at this level. 8/120 for Adley would be a bargain, too.
  11. Okay, so if Handley makes it to AAA this year, great. But you're also acting like his OPS will carry across all levels.
  12. Man, you beat me to the punch on this one. Had to try and settle down first before starting this thread.
  13. Wait wait wait! The off-season isn’t over yet, amirite?
  14. I agree, I think he earned an opportunity to lose a starting role. His turnaround was well documented and, IMO, perhaps real. There was an article that was posted that explained the changes that the Orioles made as soon as he got to Baltimore made an impact. Whether it carries over from last year to this year remains to be seen but I'd like to see him be given the opportunity.
  15. They spent 18 million on Frazier and Gibson. It's like passing up on a steak at Capital Grille because you'd rather get a couple value meals at McDonalds.
  16. It's just more about the pure stuff and upside at this point, IMO.
  17. Can't wait for that game in July where Kluber goes 8 innings of 3 hit shutout ball against us.
  18. Eovaldi instead of Gibson >>>>>>>> Just Gibson
  19. I'd be alright with Kluber, Price, Wade Miley, Wacha Flocka Flame, Cueto!, Anibal Sanchez, a Very Merry Bundy Reunion, and Duffy. Am I serious about all these names? You decide!
  20. Honestly, I'd be happier if they'd literally stood pat and not signed Gibson and Frazier this offseason. I'm alright with Givens and McCann but the other two signings are just dumb. I'd rather have them not spent that money than spend it how they did. It's just dumb.
  21. I agree with that, totally. 100%. But for an organization that seems way more comfortable with low payrolls. I can easily see (and I bet you can, too) that 18 million to Gibson and Frazier is probably akin to that feeling you had when you were a kid and you started wading towards the deep end of the pool. And when your feet weren't touching the bottom and you had to tread water to keep your head above the surface, that little panic feeling? I'm assuming that's on par for whoever's in the Warehouse and controlling the budget. IMO, it's not so much the money, it's the fact that these are one year deals. For whatever reason, this team is petrified of a multi-year deal. I get it, 5 years for a guy might be a bit much but 2, 3? C'mon, this is absurd. If 18 million shouldn't prohibit this team from spending more money this year, it shouldn't prohibit this team from spending more next year.
