  1. I kid, I kid. Stowers is fine. For now.
  2. What, no Henderson? This is bull****.
  3. If this is the only thing that were to happen this offseason, I wouldn't be sad about it. What's up, @Sports Guy, can you deal with that?
  4. Pennant race: the competition towards the end of the season to be the champions of the division or league. Wild Card race: being in the race to make the playoffs despite not qualifying for postseason play by winning a pennant
  5. As an aside, Orioles twitter has to be one of the dumbest places on the internet. A couple weeks ago I got into a debate about the Machado call up in 2012 when I noted that he was brought up for his defense. This Maryland Bro was all like "nah man, they brought him up for his bat, lullllzzz" So then I linked him to an article where it clearly said he was being brought up for his defense because Wilson Betemit and Mark Reynolds weren't great defenders and he couldn't be bothered to read it.
  6. I’m saying the Machado comp has been done to death already. Bringing it up again like it's an original, independent thought is exhausting.
  7. Hey, I want them to make the playoffs. But it’s also not the end of the world if they don’t. Like I said, this team still controls it’s destiny.
  8. Big difference between chasing for a division title (in a year where the Red Sox weren't good) and trying to fight for whatever new fandangled wild card berth MLB has cooked up to generate interest (it's working). @foxfieldsummed it up nicely and I said it after the trading deadline. Discipline. It's what matters here. I'm taking some joy in being a contrarian when I say this, but I applaud Elias for holding Henderson down as long as he sees fit in order to...well, whatever, keep his rookie status for next year, I guess. That seems to be the only reason, but it is still a reason. Half you guys don't get it. Whether Henderson is called up last week, today, or sometime after the 23rd, this team still is in control of its own destiny (unless we tie with Tampa). This team can lose two straight in August with or without Henderson, it doesn't matter right now. But anyway, like I said, I applaud Elias for being disciplined, sticking to his plan and not chasing shiny objects in the form of the last wild card berth. The weirdest thing about this place and this fan group is the lack of patience for almost anything. And I'm not saying I'm above it, I've definitely gotten wrapped up in being impatient, too. But you'd think you'd be a bit more patient after the last 5 years which is shortly on the heels of 1998-2011. Like, the patience should be beaten into you guys by now. You guys knew what this was when Elias was hired, he's been crystal clear about his goals from the start. Why is this a surprise to any of you? It's the long game. The OmG HeNdErSoN aNd StOwErS NeEd 2 B uP NoW bCuZ MaChaDo 2012 war cry is exhausting.
  9. Oh my God. The posts about the Orioles having to call up Henderson and Stowers is bordering on 2008 level Mark Teixeira WOW offer obnoxiousness.
  10. I’m sure Mountcastle’s batted ball data is great. The issue is, you know, batting the ball. Anyway, I don’t know if these two guys are THE problem but they certainly are a problem. All hitters slump but their slumps seem to be extended. And their on base percentage suffers because they don’t walk. That’s the thing, if they walked a lot and didn’t swing at everything, their slumps probably aren’t as painful; they’d still be getting on base to a degree. Right now they’re both pretty much automatic outs and nothing else.
  11. That's just silly. First, it's never been proven. Second, if you believe that the NBA would quietly suspend their most valuable asset and the most marketable athlete in the world and perhaps of all time over some gambling that wasn't even related to the NBA, I have a bridge to sell you.
  12. I can't imagine that someone who's being billed as the top prospect of minor league baseball who plays a premium position getting reps at first base will go over well.
  13. Glen Burnie? Far too kind. I was thinking Dundalk.
  14. I agree, I think Rutschman makes sense there and if they think his bat is that special they might move him off catcher in a few years. Vavra makes sense due to the range. I think Henderson COULD make sense if they like Holliday a lot and think Holliday is the SS of the future. But even then, Henderson at 3rd, Holliday at SS, Urias or Vavra at 2nd with Coby Mayo (bigger target) at first base with Rutschman still at Catcher. That doesn't factor in Westburg, either. IMO, it's a positive problem to have. Having a lot of guys who could shift around the infield is a good thing. I think Mountcastle should definitely be concerned though, it sounds like he could be on his way out.
  15. Yeah, but to anyone's knowledge that's never happened. In professional American sports it's been the Black Sox, 65 years of nothing, Pete Rose, the NBA ref (who has a Netflix documentary coming out that I can't wait to see) and Calvin Ridley (who was betting on NFL games and not betting on his own team, no big deal). I understand where you're coming from on a lot of this. I simply wouldn't want the gambling house at Camden Yards because I find FanDuel and DraftKings to be tacky. It's like putting a trailer park in the middle of a really nice upscale community. I'm not 100% anti-gambling, I'm just anti-tacky and I find a lot of gambling culture to be tacky. I also get the inherent dangers of gambling, especially from the consumer angle as I've seen people lose it all. That said, I really don't see it being dangerous that these guys (the players) have more money than the gamblers. Drungo, you've made everyone well aware of your stance here but every scenario you've outlined is pretty much a doomsday scenario. This hypothetical you've concocted is more of the same, worst case, paralyzed by fear situation that hasn't occurred to anyone's knowledge. I know, I know. But it COULD occur.
  16. To see, of them, who is really good and who could stick there. Now I doubt that it's Rutschman or Henderson but you never know.
  17. I forgot about him. But that was dumb, he can't re-apply for instatement until early 2023. The gambling occurred while he was away from the team. And the NFL's own investigation found that there was no tampering done to any games, either. The NFL doesn't suspend anyone that long for domestic violence or sexual assault. Make it make sense.
