  1. It was just a matter of time until there was dustup in San Diego. That is a team that was picked by many to be 1st or 2nd in their division, now they're only 4 games above .500. It has been a disappointing season for them to say the least. We know Manny can be a bit of a hothead. IMO, that dustup couldn't have happened at a better time, they just need to go into the offseason, cool off and come back next year in a better place. Tatis isn't going anywhere, neither is Manny. I hope they both put whatever this is behind them and figure it out. That can be a really fun team when they're clicking on all cylinders.
  2. I haven't been paying too close attention in regards to this, but have the Orioles done ANYTHING as far as a PR campaign to get Mountcastle the ROY award?
  3. I was about to say…the league doesn’t know how awful he is?
  4. I see where you're coming from, I also don't totally disagree. But I do believe you're leaving out the fact that RMC is facing pitchers with better stuff, too. I am assuming the average fastball velocity is significantly faster now than it was in 1982. Part of that is how the speed was measured back then but I think we all should be able to agree that pitchers have overall better stuff now than they did back then. Maybe that makes the environment a wash, maybe it doesn't. It certainly is a more homer friendly environment overall, too. Jackrabbit ball, hitters selling out for power, etc. It's just a different game. Overall, I agree though..very cool accomplishment.
  5. There is no window. Pay attention to what Elias has said. He's said that the goal is to continue to have good prospects come up through the system all the time and always be competing. WC, I know you take this stuff really seriously so I am worried that you'll have a stroke next year when they're not competitive...or not as competitive as you think they should be.
  6. Didn't get to see it last night when he did it. That was a hell of a shot. Didn't have him breaking Cal's rookie record for homers this year but I also shouldn't be surprised.
  7. Yep, exactly. It would be weak, but it's the only thing I could come up with. If that's the rationale, I agree with SG, it would be very weak. He's handled Delmarva competition just as well as he had in the FCL. To Mayo, it appears that there's no difference between the levels as of yet. It is 200 plate appearances of .995 OPS, all levels combined.
  8. Not that I'd agree with it, but it could be they'd want to see him get off to a hot start before promoting him and have that carry to the next level. I agree that it wouldn't really be justifiable, either.
  9. It's an underachieving Yankees team this year. That said, it's nice we didn't roll over for them this year, either.
  10. I ****ing hate algebra, dude. The minute they started introducing letters into numbers, I lost all interest. "Solve for both X & Y" Answer: Who gives AF. Solve for A&F. Yes, we disagree on the return, provided we're agreeing that Y is two top flight prospects. I disagree that he can net us that return because he's not an elite starter. However as I said before, the market will tell us what his value is if he's moved. I like the depth, too.
  11. I can explain it: He's not good. Doesn't mean he won't get another opportunity but it's not like he impressed all that much.
  12. Right, he's a platoon guy. I don't know how prevalent platooning is right now, I think most teams are trying to find full time talent, not platoons. Maybe Neustrom works in a 4th outfielder spot somehow but the fact that you put him in the same sentence with Adley/G-Rod was weird.
  13. If we can agree that he's not an elite, top of the rotation guy then I am not undervaluing him. That's what he is.
  14. I don't think anyone is in favor of wasting the halcyon years of Adley/Grayson, but you lost me at Neustrom coming to help. This is still a far cry from an 82 win team even with an additional SP and a closer next year. There's going to be an innings limit on G-Rod next year, we won't see him throw a full ML season until 2023.
  15. I'm just saying, I think we overvalue Means on here. And I get it, I really like him, too. It's nice to have a guy come out of nowhere and succeed. But the emotional attachment to him doesn't justify some massive haul. He's not a top 10 pitcher, although he's had a couple stretches where he's pitched like one.
  16. That last sentence revolves around the notion that no other moves will be made for the staff. While that's a distinct possibility, I don't believe they could trade Means and not find a decent replacement. Now I doubt they sign someone like Robbie Ray, but if they traded Means and signed Ray, I'd be happy. Means is a good pitcher, not a great one. I suppose we can debate on what "reasonable" and "fair" means. But I don't think any of us should get our hopes up and be "blown away" on a return for Means. That's not likely to happen if he's traded. The market, IMO, always wins. We might like to think starting the conversation centers around two top 50 global prospects. The market might tell us different.
  17. Well, thanks. That's what I see whenever I see your name on here at first glance. "R u zerious?" Mullins is a tricky proposition right now. No one knows if this season he's having is for real or not. I don't believe anyone on the current roster is safe from being traded, IMO. Mullins could return a nice package next year if he's performing at this level, though if he is, I wouldn't be surprised if the Orioles identify him as a central piece to build around. If we're playing the either/or game, I'd rather have Mullins, strictly because he's shown the ability to stay on the field. Hays hasn't and I'd look to sell high on him, as high as his value can be right now. I don't believe he's irrelevant. I think he's tradable, though the return won't be outstanding. Switch hitter with some pop and was a gold glove finalist last year.
  18. He'll fit right in when he arrives in Baltimore.
  19. I'm torn on this idea. On one hand, I like the idea of continuing to stock the system. On the other hand, I think Means being the 2nd or 3rd guy in the rotation is good. At some point you gotta keep guys to build around.
  20. Man, he was before Walter Young. Sheesh I'm getting old. Pickering had some legit OPS seasons in the minors, I forgot all about this. 1.086 at Bluefield (BLUEFIELD!!) .949 at Delmarva, 1.000 at Bowie. Safe to say the Orioles haven't had many power bats come through the system in the past 25 years or so.
  21. Walter Young, 2004. Only because he was brought up on here a few weeks ago. There's probably someone else in there we're just forgetting.
  22. I understand why he's not getting more attention as a prospect. But IMO, it's a bit silly. Not sure why he's not more highly regarded. How many minor leaguers are having a season like he is?
