  1. Yeah, @Philip, maybe Hyde is just a genius.
  2. Who had Matt Harvey leading this team in innings pitched with three weeks to go in the season? Means throws a couple more and he's the leader...but sheesh, if you had told me in April that Matt Harvey would be the 2nd leader in innings pitched this year, I'd probably start crying or something.
  3. First, I'm not from Baltimore. So no civic pride argument here. I'm not sure about the midwest rat population.
  4. I bet it could stay healthier than Hunter Harvey, that's for sure.
  5. Can it pitch? Sorry, knew it was coming, had to get it out of the way. Also, "We got to do better, man." Who's we?
  6. Dude, this team went 0-19. From there, all they'd have to do is go 4-13. A 4-13 stretch is not hard for this team. We were well over halfway there. There wasn't a reason for them to continue to be THAT bad, if we're defining THAT bad as 0-19 and not winning a single, solitary game. 4-13 is not that THAT bad. It's a little better. It still sucks, but it's better than what they were. As unprecedented as 4-32 was, 0-19 was also unprecedented. It was historically bad (historically meaning: of historic note, you geniuses. I'm not getting into a semantics debate about what historic or historically means. JFC, if someone said the sky was blue, half of you would be like "well, no, it's actually partly blue today. And earlier it was cloud cover so the sky really was gray). All I'm saying is that it's not a stretch of the imagination for a team that just went 0-19 to go 4-13 in the next stretch. That's it.

RE: Pirates, that sucks to see but it's not surprising. The Pirates are bad and have been for awhile. School is back in session, it's a school night. Of course, Covid...while there are a lot of people who DGAF about being in crowds and being outside, there are still some who don't want to go out. Add that all up, it's not too surprising. It does suck that the Rays are always winning but never draw. That region doesn't deserve a team if they can't support it, I agree with @Frobby. However, part of me wonders if they'd draw if they played in a better ballpark, too. Is CoC in here beating the service clock dead horse again? Surprising.
  8. I think we'll wind up with the #2 pick. And not that it would mean anything, but I wouldn't mind if we somehow played spoiler to an AL East team vying for a playoff spot in the final few weeks. There are some games against the Yankees Sept 14th-16th and they're really struggling right now. If we could kick them down in the standings a little bit, I wouldn't mind. I hate the Jays but I'd rather see them in the playoffs before the Yankees, that's for sure. They're not the team of Jose Bautista anymore...it would be great to see Vlad Jr, Bichette, etc in the playoffs. It sucks that we have to play them all the time but they are a young, talented team that should be featured on a national level. Or even if we played spoiler to the Jays in the last series of the season, that'd be awesome, too. How many of us remember Andino and game #162? If we got to do that to the Jays and it gave us the #2 pick...fine. I can deal with that. Of course I'd really like the #1 pick, but if there's a silver lining that we kept one of our foes out of the playoffs, I'll be alright (not thrilled) with that, too. That old axiom is good, but I believe this team was probably playing closer to it's talent during the losing streak then the 10-6 stretch. No, 0-19 isn't reflective of their true talent, but it's closer than 10-6, IMO. Yes, you're not as bad as you are during the worst times and you're not as good as you are when things are looking great. But the things average out and your team eventually settles into what they are. That's why 162 games is great, you get to see who your team is over time. It's a marathon, not a sprint. A 2002 finish could have happened. After going 0-19, they'd only have to go 4-13 to match that futility and as bad as they were playing at the time, that looked like it certainly could have been possible. I agree that competing with the '62 Mets was less likely but would any of us been surprised? This team has routinely found ways to make you think they've bottomed out and things couldn't get worse and then they do. Didn't we have an 0-13 streak earlier this year? Yeah, hold my beer. I do, too. I think that should have happened this year but with all the Covid craziness and crap, things have been delayed for a year. AR probably should have been up this year if he got a full season last summer. This team has to avoid 100 losses next year, for sure. Time to make real moves in the offseason, time to call up AR and G-Rod and put forth some effort.
  9. Probably was me. I wasn’t high on him because of that, also the defense. But he is walking more since he’s been called up. Improved plate discipline is nice to see.
  10. Fell asleep on the couch with the dog last night while watching the game. Woke up, didn't know what time it was. Saw the Orioles on the TV, figured it was a MASN replay or something. Then saw it was 9-8. It was around 10:20. WTF? Rewound the game, saw the 9 run explosion. Pretty amazing. With two outs and Mullins hitting that lazy fly to RF, I was like "How the hell..." and then I saw the centerfielder drifting in and I was like "ITS GOING TO BE A GLORIOUS COLLISION!!!" but I was deprived of that. Still, that was one of the more boneheaded plays you'll ever see. You don't see an outfielder straight up miss a flyball like that, I don't care if the centerfielder made him flinch or not. And then Mountcastle...glorious.
  11. Unless you're Tony Gwynn or Rod Carew, you're probably a streaky hitter. Some guys have longer streaks and slumps than others, but 99% of hitters are streaky guys.
  12. I will agree, his teams have put forth effort during his time here. They have gotten their brains beaten in and come back the next night like nothing ever happened. Hyde is fine. I hope he gets a chance to manage a talented team, too.
  13. He drilled the piss out of that ball. IMO, looks like he might have put topspin on it, it was on a line and the way it hooked down at the end...made me think there was topspin on it. Gotta be really strong to do that, that's big boy stuff right there. I don't think he can win ROY but 30+ homers and breaking Ripken's rookie record should be do-able.
  14. You can tell me the win stat doesn't matter, that's fine. But don't tell that to Manny Barreda.
  15. Yes, he’s probably more like Tim Beckham. Jeez, people here almost never learn. Maybe Mateo is turning a corner but the odds are he’s not.
  16. I’d rather have DSL prospects instead of Hunter Harvey.
  17. Barreda is a guy that can help us get the #1 pick next year. Hunter Harvey needs to be shopped.
  18. Patiently waiting for the other shoe to drop.
  19. I'll also say this: to watch this team be as bad as they are each day...I dunno, I'm kind of numb to it. Like I expected this team to win anywhere between 45 and 55 games. I certainly didn't expect a 19 game losing streak. So, it's a bad team. A very, very bad team. But, like...to look around at the standings and see ANOTHER team that I don't pay attention to and see how bad THEY are from an outsider's perspective, it's like...damn, they SUCK! All the while not acknowledging that they're just as bad as we are. I don't really know how to describe it. It's just a general feeling that when you see another team with just over 40 wins, how bad that is. And then the realization that your team is just that bad, too.
  20. Eric Davis was so much fun. IMO, he could have been an all-time great had he been able to stay healthy. People constantly wonder what Bo Jackson could have done if he didn't break his hip and Bo was certainly an amazing talent. Obviously he was a higher profile because of two sports...but I think Eric Davis was a bigger, better what if? This is a must-read: https://www.mlb.com/news/eric-davis-put-up-video-game-stats-for-reds-c279109048 He was so f'ing good while he was here, even though it was brief. And that was when he was older, after cancer and a year out of MLB. Does the goodness of Eric Davis wash away the badness of Glenn and Chris? It's close.
  21. He's not, but he's shown flashes. I wouldn't give up on that guy just yet.
  22. Exactly. It only matters if your team is contending. We know attendance and interest in the Orioles is down but we also know that OPACY gets full when the team is good. I'm not concerned. No, because I know I'm probably going to go see my team win.
