  1. 2 pitches, 7 outs for the pudgy faced applejohn. I bet that's a record for him.
  2. Not doing a victory lap when I ask if you can consider a first round pick a bust if he never sees the field? I feel bad for the guy but it looks increasingly possible that he might never play a game for us.
  3. Kotchman would have a tent and would be grilling out.
  4. I'm just here to say that I don't know how I feel about this new SG who seems to have a bit of a heart. I feel like the SG from 2008 would be wondering why these guys can't pull themselves up from their bootstraps and budget better or have another side hustle in order to make living arrangements possible.
  5. Well, as it should be. I'll hand it to him, he worked really hard to get back. I don't question his effort at all. Went to Driveline in the offseason, whatever he learned there seemed to impress us enough to try him out. Maybe they need to send him back there between turns in the rotation to get it ironed out, but that's probably not likely. His career is most likely over and that's gotta suck for him. It'd suck for anyone, really, but for a guy who reached the heights that he did, to fall so low has to be pretty demoralizing. He certainly had some days in the sun, though.
  6. A guy like Glasnow, throwing 100 is pretty much a max effort guy. I believe him when he says he felt that throwing without sticky stuff is what contributed to his injury, but I question why he'd want to change his grips in the first place. IIRC, the sticky stuff helps with the spin rate which is king these days. These guys have such an innate feel for pitching, Glasnow whining about having to change his grip doesn't make sense. Tiger Woods doesn't try to change his swing halfway through a round of golf. Steph Curry doesn't change his jump shot partway through a basketball game. So Glasnow tries to go cold turkey without the sticky stuff, which....whatever, he's been dealt a crappy hand and is making the most of it. But no one told him to change his grips. No one told him to choke the hell out of the ball. That's his problem and his problem alone. Rosin by itself doesn't help much from what I've been learning over the past few weeks. Adding rubbing alcohol to rosin creates that stickiness that improves grip. So does applying sunscreen to your arm, then going right to the mound and dumping rosin on the sunscreen creates a paste of sorts. I don't mind pitchers trying to get a better grip due to the aforementioned safety issues. These guys are throwing harder than ever, it's important that they have a better idea of where it's going.
  7. Yep, we're in agreement. I don't think either one would have netted anything significant. I thought Franco was an upgrade over Ruiz, too.
  8. It's dumb to crack down on it all of a sudden in the middle of the season. Glasnow seems like a whiny bitch, but I agree with him there (IIRC he said give us the offseason to make adjustments). Furthermore in regards to Glasnow....I haven't pitched since high school, I'm not sure why anyone would put a fastball grip deeper in his hand. Fastball should be out on the fingertips. He even said it in his video rant, he can't hold the ball light anymore....well, why not? Why does he feel the need to grip it hard? A fastball shouldn't be gripped hard to begin with. I've heard some say that it's a safety issue, maybe for Glasnow it's that...maybe he doesn't want to sling it 98 mph without a good grip and feels the need to have something to create better command for himself. Anyway, they should have waited until the offseason for this, it's pretty dumb. I'm also surprised to see people equating Spider Tack with whatever Barry Bonds was injecting himself with, that's just ignorant too.
  9. Well it's just a laughable stance to take and it's become such a cliche term around here. People thought we could flip Harvey or Franco at the deadline. It's obvious that they were out there for anyone to sign and no one was signing them. The idea that they'd perform at a high level and bring back something of value at the trade deadline when anyone could have signed them 5 months previously for practically nothing is absurd. Even if Harvey and/or Franco performed exceedingly well, I still don't think you could get anything because people would just be waiting for the other shoe to drop. Harvey has been terrible for years and Franco at this point is most likely is what he is. He's 28 so there might be some room for a light switch to go on but probably not.
  10. Little Yaz hit a grand slam last night. OPS up to .806.
  11. How bad do you want Elijah Green, SG?
  12. Not gonna lie, Glasnow looks like an upset sorority girl.
  13. Pat Connaughton has 8 points halfway through the 2nd quarter of Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Semis.
  14. Vlad Jr. just might **** around and win the Triple Crown. 22 homers, 56 RBI, .346 batting average. He's leading in homers by 4, RBI by 6 and average by 9 points. He's the only batter in the league with over 1.000 OPS (actually he's over 1.100 at 1.148). He's homered in 4 straight games, quite frankly I'm not sure if anyone can catch him in homers. Matt Olson is 2nd, and his career high is 36 homers which he did in 2019. Brantley is second in batting average at .337 and he's a .298 career hitter but his career high in batting average came way back in 2014. Vlad Jr. just seems to be on a completely different planet right now though. He's also leading in hits, on base percentage, slugging percentage, OPS+, total bases and intentional walks.
  15. I don't believe anyone said that it was a rainbow throw. It was a stupid throw, though, it allowed the runner to go from first to second. Releasing him would be a bad idea, however I can't stand watching him in the outfield any longer. Every fly ball seems like an adventure and just watch...he will make another boneheaded play again here shortly. He made errors after he got hit on the head with the fly ball last year. It appears that his mistakes live on in his head...more mistakes follow after he makes a stupid play. I think Stewart should strictly be a DH, which makes it hard with Mountcastle and Mancini in the mix. Stewart's OBP skills are better than both of them, however none of these guys really have a position in the field that they excel at. As much as I like Mancini I'd be in favor of trading him, giving Mountcastle first base full time and Stewart the DH role full time.
  16. I don't know about all that. That Pirates/Cubs play from a couple weeks ago was pretty ridiculous...unless you're limiting to the Orioles only. I do seem to remember a play where the ball was thrown around the infield like a little league team, too.
  17. Leiter to Boston sounds like it's going to happen if you believe the mocks. Fangraphs said earlier that he's trying to land there. I'd be floored if Leiter was there at 5 for us. Ugh, another Davis for us. Glenn, then Chris, now Henry. Can't wait.
  18. First, I don't believe in the "time targeted for team success" bit. I get why it's a popular topic on here...because we're bored with nothing better to do and we like to think that we can predict when this team will get back to respectability. Those projections we banter back and forth about oftentimes are only considering if everything breaks right. "If AR becomes a 6+ WAR player and Hall and Gray-Rod can live up to their billing we can be in the playoffs in 2023!" Anyone who's paid attention knows that things don't always break right. A fair amount of time, things go sideways. That said, let's not forget the 2012 team, sometimes the team can arrive ahead of schedule. I don't think anyone picked the 2012 team to do what they did....sometimes we can be surprised. It wouldn't surprise me if Elias didn't think in terms of "targeted team success" or the almighty WINDOW. He's been in the business long enough to know that things don't always go your way. And he's in the business of trying to create a sustainable system, constantly being able to graduate good prospects to the majors. I don't believe he thinks in the term of WINDOWS. That's sports message board talk. In regards as to why Mancini and Santander gotta go, yes, I believe that remaining team control gives them more value than they're really worth. I don't believe they'd be too old to contribute. And I don't know if the Orioles would be willing to retain them. I'd like to think they'd retain Mancini but you can never be too sure. In regards to Santander, specifically, he's hurt often and I'm not sure exactly how good he is when he's on the field. I think he's pretty good, but not a player that we absolutely have to have in order to be successful in the future.
  19. I wonder what "insane" looks like according to that guy. As much as I like Mancini, he's probably gotta go. Santander's gotta go, too.
  20. You pick inherently unlikable professions. ?
  21. So you're saying a REAL vacation for you would be screwing around on the OH from a beachfront property somewhere?
  22. Meadows is pretty good in his own right. I get why you load the bases, you get a grounder and you're out of the inning. It just seems that strategy hardly ever works for us. Especially down 3-1, the game is still in reach (kinda, lets be honest that's an insurmountable lead for us against the Rays) but you just run the risk of letting them break the game wide open. I'd be more supportive of that strategy if we had an absolutely lights out reliever who was ground ball dominant. Not a guy who was hot for the first month of the season and has been running on fumes.
  23. It's creeping towards 2 am. Cesar Valdez has lost his wallet and his cell phone and is pretty tipsy.
