  1. They are putting everything in play, but the results are good so far.
  2. They lost me at the Orioles didn't even use any of their top 25 prospects. We used 2 of them.
  3. Only thing I can think of is they might want to show a different look from the pen. If Joey throws like he did last night, we're better off.
  4. I feel like we are in a similar position to someone like the Reds, who also didn't run out and give up the farm because they showed up earlier than expected. Like I said earlier, I think the Flaherty deal was fine, but the off-season is going to be the real litmus test for this front office.
  5. The Jays got the best reliever available according to the talking heads and he got slapped off the field. We'll all see who the winners and losers are in October.
  6. I don't disagree. I will concede what happened at the deadline and not worry about it, but if they don't trade some of these kids in the off-season for good young pitching, then I will have a much bigger issue with what happened this season.
  7. Showalter might be great, he might not be great. 19 year olds in Low A for an entire season in an organization who is hyper aggressive at promoting people they think are going to move quickly might say what the org thought of Showalter going forward.
  8. Because I honestly believe to my core they didn't think this was the year. I feel like they figured this was going to be the final year of developing and evaluation and the O's team went nuts.
  9. ESPN+ article on winners and losers also said this, take anything people say with a grain of salt. Opinions are like you know what's.
  10. I think it's a much better time in the off-season to make the deals that will likely be made. The fast food society of if we don't do it right now we're not going to win attitude isn't always prudent, especially when it involves valuable assets that you are likely going to trade for longer term valuable assets. If you get rid of Ortiz and Norby for rentals, who do you bring to the table in the off-season when you are trying to trade for young controllable pitching from the teams like SEA and MIA, etc, who are going to be looking for young controllable bats?
  11. So, you need to wait until Fuji blows a game in a big spot before you grade the deal? Sounds like solid reasoning and not like you are trying to use hindsight or cherry-pick at all.
  12. "The top of our prospect list is as good as is out there," Elias said. "It took a long time to get people off of that part of the list." "A lot of teams really fixated on a lot of players that we had that we just didn't feel were appropriate to go in those deals," Elias said. "That's part of why this went to the last minute for us."
  13. Because our "lesser prospects" are better than some team's top prospects. I'm glad he didn't make a knee-jerk trade, nobody on the market would have moved the needle that much. In case you haven't been paying attention, this team is winning as constructed, and calling Flaherty the equivalent of Walmart is absurd. Oh, about that "we all know Elias' drafting and development preferences" nonsense, he drafted 15 college pitchers among the 24 players drafted in 2023. Seeing how aggressive they are in moving people through the system, it's not unlikely that we'll start seeing a swing toward some pitchers in our top prospect list. This team has arrived early, they have been playing grueling games all year long, knock down drag-out close games, and are winning. They are learning to win together and it only gets better from here. Max Scherzer is worth 1.9 WAR this season his ERA+ is 102 and his FIP is 4.72. Flaherty is at 1.6 WAR with a 97 ERA+ and a 4.22 FIP. Scherzer is giving up a ton of HRs this year. I think Elias deserves the off-season to add to the rotation in a calculated fashion as opposed to not bowing to the fan's desire for some panic mode overpay deadline deals. The window is literally just cracking open and people are acting like it's now or never. This team is going to be very good for several years.
  14. Lots of other guys need him, Tony just loves him and brings him around for the interviews. It's fantastic.
