Even in the silly Skubal proposal thread, people are suggesting the Tigers would be foolish not to trade him but Kjerstad and Mountcastle, McDermott and Bradfield are too much. The Tigers just need to trade for our 25-30th prospects as that should get it done.

Yes, and for the Tigers to trade Skubal I'll maintain that position. They have a top 5 farm system as it is, they are free from the bad contracts they had and they have spent plenty in the past. They are hovering around .500, they are not rebuilding.

You are not getting the best pitcher in the AL with 2.5 years of control for Kjerstad. You just aren't. Plenty of teams could beat that deal, I doubt any of them would because the Tigers are not trading Skubal unless a GM makes a fireable offense and does a crazy overpay.

Kjerstad doesn't get you Skubal. Mayo and Kjerstad and a couple of more real prospects get you Skubal.

Hopefully, we get to see Mayo at 3B and Westburg at 2B, and Mateo spot starting again.

I don't think Detroit sees themselves as rebuilding. They need some pieces and they are free from the bad contracts they had, but they certainly don't need to trade arguably the best pitcher in the AL who they have for 2 more years after this one to get better. If they trade anyone it will be Flaherty if his back proves to be healthy.

If Burnes had 2.5 years of control left we'd still have Joey Ortiz and DL Hall and he'd be pitching somewhere else.

He doesn't need to throw 97/98 to be effective, he's a short guy who gets a lot of extension so his fastball has always played up.

Yeah, I don't get it. Skubal hasn't just been good this year. He would absolutely command something like Mayo, Kjerstad, and McDermott and probably a throw-in. The Tigers are not in full rebuild mode. We undervalue pretty much every top-flight established talent and think our lesser prospects or ML guys who aren't really established are enough to acquire them. You hardly ever see the Cy Young favorite traded in season, and if it happens, it's not for spare change.
