  1. Yup I had 8/9 right. A little shocked he didn’t put Urias in there, guess that means Holliday/Mayo will truly be every day which is good to see. Slater at leadoff is … something. not having Mateo and Westburg is pretty devastating to our lefty lineups.
  2. Interested to see how Hyde lines up vs lefties after the trade deadline. He’s been pretty pronounced in his preference to platoon lefties, especially the young ones. Will he keep Holliday in vs a lefty? Will McCann continue to catch every game vs lefties? Will Adley get the whole day off instead of DH? Which of Cowser or Mullins sit? Will Slater start every game vs lefties? I'm afraid Urias will get the auto start as a “mateo replacement.” I think we will see something like this: Cowser CF Mountcastle 1B Gunnar SS Santander RF Jimenez DH Urias 2B Slater LF Mayo 3B McCann C
  3. I would argue the young guys/rookies have shown more talent and played better than the vets. The wave of vets (outside of Santander) that got us through the rebuild- Hays, Mullins, Mountcastle, Urias- have plateaued or gotten worse. I know you can never go with an all rookie lineup, but I feel more confident with those guys at the plate than the aforementioned 4. Hays has already been moved. Mounty/O'Hearn should probably be in a strict platoon most of the time. Mullins should probably not be an every day guy. Urias should be a utility guy at best, and probably not on the team if we have Mateo available. And of course, the pitching cannot be as bad as it has been if we have any hope of contending. I am still hopeful that the deadline moves will be an improvement for our pitching. Remains to be seen if we can turn this thing around, but it has been a pretty significant lull in play over the past 40 games.
  4. He was big and strong in spring training/april as well. It was well documented how much he trains all year round. He's not a small/frail guy, just looks young so people get that impression.
  5. If Basallo continues on his current trajectory he will certainly be next on the "CALL UP BASALLO" OH trend. Next July/August we will be clamoring for this to happen. Based on him playing catcher, I would guess if all goes well, his best case scenerio is Sept call up 2025 (for his bat), and a 2026 real debut as Adleys backup/1B/DH
  6. 1) Holliday looks a lot more comfortable this time around. 2) Gunnar is hitting the ball hard again. 3) Cowser looks like a stud who has made adjustments. 4) Mayo did not look overmatched in game 1. 5) Team looks a lot more patient at the plate. Still need to hit with RISP, but seems like we're getting more guys on base via walk/non-homer recently. 6) Despite the early showings, I still believe our pitching staff is much improved with the trade additions. I will give them all more than one appearance to show that. Lets not forget Flaherty looked like Corbin Burnes in his first start last year. 7) Cant get much worse, right? .... RIGHT?
  7. Tomorrow we will get: Cowser CF Santander RF Gunnar SS Mountcastle 1B Jiminez DH Urias 2B Slater LF Mayo 3B McCann C Just want you guys to prepare yourselves accordingly.
  8. Really should be platooning Mounty and O'Hearn rather than playing them both every day.
  9. Is Webb hurt? throwing 92??? He's been bad for a while now.
  10. Not sure that’s the case. This isn’t the NBA with stars. Balls and strikes are standard
  11. Westburg to 3B, Mayo to DH, Mounty to bench vs righty
  12. What does a batting average have to do with how you should have strikes/balls called?
  13. Mountcastle should not be an every day player against righties.
  14. Look at his last three years. I wouldnt call this a career year. He has been trending up.
  15. Or Adley to get the day off completely. I doubt they lessen McCanns role
  16. I don’t believe there is any service time gain or loss at this point of the season. Only thing could be to try to keep 2025 ROY eligibility I guess.
  17. Norby was just optioned to the Marlins AAA, for everyone so worried about losing him right now.
  18. Yes but it wasn’t just exchanging Hays for Slater. We also got Dominguez for the pen. I agree bringing in Slater doesn’t seem great, but will let it play out I guess. Tired of being angry and overly critical.
  19. Yea I wasn’t using it as an end all be all just some form of numerical context.
  20. Don’t have any more upvotes but that’s an awesome post.
  21. Rogers has been worth 1.4 WAR this season which is tied with Grayson Rodriguez. While it was a few years back, he also has a season of 3.5 WAR on his resume. He has more value than you give him credit for, and is far more valuable than Cole Irvin has been. Another example of over valuing Norby and Stowers trade value. Norby is still a prospect and has some value but he doesn’t come without a good amount of flaws. Stowers is a throw in. You’re not getting an “elite” pitcher with them two and another top prospect. The market was crazy this year for pitching. There are better pitchers than Trevor Rogers out there, sure, but it would’ve cost us big time. We got an MLB quality back end stater for our rotation which we needed dearly and did so using spare parts. Ive seen people say we should’ve kept both and played both. But I am sure glad our team will not have Norby in AAA, and Stowers on the bench and 2 of: Cade Povich, Suarez, McDermott, Irvin in the rotation.
  22. Stowers was 100% a throw in, and was going to be a throw in for any trade he was a part of. Even BTV had him at a trade value of 0.1. Everyone here is biased about him because he’s likable and because we drafted him. At the end of the day he’s a 26 year old who is a career .260 hitter in the minors and hitting .240 this year in AAA. I like Stowers too, and I’m glad he’s going to finally get a shot to play every day, but he was never anything more than a throw in. Even if he goes and becomes an all star in Miami, that doesn’t change his current value in a trade at the 2024 deadline.
  23. Philly is laughing at the o’s as Dominguez closes out a win with a perfect 9th and they Phillies bullpen blows a three run lead and can’t win in extras? the negativity of some on this board after today astounds me. This roster is without question improved from the trade deadline . Especially the pitching. Our rotation is night and day where it was 5 days ago, and our pen is much improved as well. You are vastly overrating Connor Norby and Kyle Stowers value, both to the Orioles and to other teams in a trade. I don’t think Mike Elias didn’t shop them around for multiple options. We “hurt out chances” of going to the World Series is just a comical statement.
  24. Fangraphs doesn’t control who we call up and who we don’t
