  1. Junior Caminero will slide into Franco's spot. Springs, Rasmussen will be back at some point during the 2024 season for McClanahan. Shane Baz and the recently acquired Ryan Pepiot will be healthy and in the bigs for Glasnow. Still have Eflin, Littell, Civale, Bradley. Maybe those guys dont fill those shoes completely but the Rays should be just fine.
  2. Thanks for the heads up. I have worked in sports performance for a long time. Spent 15 years working in division 1 college athletics working with all sports, but mostly basketball. Have spent the last few years more in the private sector and work with a number of pro athletes currently. I'm well versed in all the modalities that you are referring to, and I think you would be surprised at how many teams and individual athletes do not value those things. What you will find especially at the professional level, is that these guys are given a ton of autonomy. Some guys choose not to do those things or do some of those things, some guys have the money to afford their own "team" of specialists around them, and some will follow the team program pretty strictly. I would guess that the latter is the least of guys who are pro's and certainly veterans. I do agree with you whole heartedly in that it seems like the Orioles value guys who are bought into the system that they provide, and that cohesiveness shows in their play but also in their preparation. Unfortunately- as @Sports Guy touched on, a lot of what happens with injuries is tied to luck. I dont think there are any programs that can "prevent" injuries, you just hope to reduce the likelihood of injuries. From the outside looking in, it seems like that Orioles are certainly monitoring this stuff and doing a lot of the "right" things- but Its risky business as an athletic trainer or a strength coach to tie yourself and your success on injury rates, because its sports, and sometimes things happen. All in all, its a great award for those guys, and I know that they have a great reputation throughout the sport. Happy that they are a part of the Orioles.
  3. Has any of this been reported as actually happening? How do you know that the players are doing this, and how do you know that other teams are not?
  4. With our assets I just cannot comprehend people not wanting Cease in a trade with pieces that are essentially redundant on our current roster.
  5. Love McDermott's potential and I see where you are going...but Cease has 11.7 WAR in the last three years, has two years of control and finished 2nd in the AL Cy Young in 2022. This shouldn't even be a question. Even in a well recognized down year this year he struck out 214 batters in 177 innings. Maybe McDermott becomes all that and more, maybe not. But I dont think you can pass up on a guy who has done it at the MLB level and has multiple years of control. For comparison- on our roster last year of guys in the rotation- only Bradish had more than Cease's 2.4 WAR. So even in a down year for him he is a significant upgrade. And he of course has the ability to get back to a potential 4-6 WAR for each of the next two years.
  6. What would it realistically take to get Cease AND Luis Robert in a package from the White Sox. We have the prospects to do it- just curious what it may take. I ask because the Callis proposal of Mullins for Burnes leaves a gaping hole in CF. But if we did that, and then turned around and got Cease and Robert. Now our Rotation is the best in baseball and we've filled the hole left by Mullins.
  7. If there is one thing I know about Hyde and the Orioles. There is no chance they are running 4 rookies out there in the same lineup ever night. And a 5th guy whos played less than half a year.
  8. There is no evidence that he put on weight or bodyfat or any of that. He also had one of his best months of the season in September and was the Orioles best hitter for the entire month. I do not think his conditioning is of any concern, he is built well and held up over the course of an entire MLB season, very impressive physically.
  9. Not sure how realistic it would be but I would offer Gunnar more years- 10 if we can.
  10. Baker and Webb immediately adding 4 to the 5 mattered.
  11. Not sure what Elias thinks, but will they still be looking at DL Hall as a starter? He's been pretty damn awesome since coming back up. I'm sure the stuff is playing up as a reliever but he always had stuff. Command has been much improved and so have the results. So you've got: Bradish, Rodriguez, Means, Kremer, Wells, Hall as guys on the roster. I think you can make a trade for a stud SP and then let the others fight it out for the 5th spot and also as much needed SP depth/bullpen help. But I am not counting out Hall if thats the route they take. He has been really impressive.
  12. 11 seems very high. We had the lead for not even one out the entire series. So I guess you count the first three innings of game one, and the first inning game two?
  13. The last time we made a "big" splash was probably Ubaldo.. but the last time we really went out and got a star and probably out spent others to do so was Miguel Tejada heading into the 2004 season.
  14. Tampa will be loaded Yandy Diaz Caminero/Franco (if hes there) Arozarena Raley J Lowe Paredes B Lowe Siri Betencourt/FA Glasnow, Rasmussen, Springs, Eflin, Civale, Baz Plus whatever moves they decide to make. Yes I know Rasmussen and Springs and Baz are coming back from TJ and will miss more time.
  15. Locked in a losing record in Oct, damn shame. JK
  16. Means and Flaherty today and let everyone else rest.
  17. We had some defensive stinkers in early April for sure, but last night had to be the worst defense of the year. Overall we have been very good on defense, so hopefully we rebound today. We win that game without the Santander slip most likely. The ball at Gunnar was 107/108 off the bat and took a tough hop, it happens. Just unfortunate and magnifies all the other mishaps of our rotation and bullpen. We desperately need a win.
  18. We're in the playoffs, so to me, I'm good with any matchup. All of the teams we could play will be good teams and will present their own problems- just as we will for them. I would, however, enjoy seeing Toronto not making the playoffs just because I dont like them.
  19. I've seen people say that we've been very lucky with injuries this year and I'm not sure I agree. I havent looked it up, but I feel like last year was far "luckier" when it came to injuries and we've just kind of run with the narrative. Yes, in comparison to the Rays, its not close, but the Rays have been crushed by injuries to their main guys, specifically to the starting rotation. So far this year we have had the following: - #1 SP out for the majority of the season. - Starting AS and GG Center Fielder out for two significant stints. - Starting replacement CF and corner out field fill in out for two stints and looking like a third. - Elite closer most likely done for the season starting mid august - Starting 1B out significant time with vertigo and now shoulder issue - #1 SP from the first half sent down to MILB for majority of the second half with arm fatigue We've also had much smaller issues of guys just being banged up that I'm sure all teams have every year. But Gunnar missed several games on two different occasions with a low back, Frazier missed time with a thumb, McCann spent time on the IL, Santander missed time with a low back, Mateo had a hip flexor issue that I cant remember how much (if any ) time he missed but it was when he was still our every day SS. Again- all this to say- I dont have any numbers to say that we have or have not had a lot of injuries but I do think that we've had to overcome some pretty significant issues throughout the year. It seems far more than last year. Our depth has been amazing and has been our strength and should continue to be our strength moving forward.
  20. One month ago he went 7 shutout innings, 2 hits 8 k's against us. I expected this.
  21. Well between getting perfect gamed by their Pen for 4 innings yesterday and the 5 innings today they have completed the combined 9 inning no hitter. Only base runner, Gunnar's reach by error.
  22. MLB.tv has been around for a long time.
