  1. Yeah, the fact someone is willing to throw in Baumann on a deal that's already an overpay tells you that even he doesn't think Baumann has any real value. Two for the price of one!
  2. I would have liked to see Irvin continue to pitch, but there might be a lot we don't know. Normally, pulling a starter who is pitching effectively after 72 pitches is a bad move, but it's possible Hyde knew something about how Irvin was feeling, or something, that makes the move make sense. I don't think Hyde is so stupid that he'd pull a pitcher who was cruising after 72 pitches unless there was something going on.
  3. I might trade one of our semi-interesting low minors arms for Scott, but probably not. He was nails last year and has been good this year, but I have faith we can unearth someone roughly as good for basically free, Depends on which arm the Marlins want, I guess.
  4. Povich's floor might be Zimmermann. He's always been a more highly thought of prospect and the stuff is just better.
  5. Burnes and Means are probably gone next year, so that leaves us with Bradish, Rodriguez, Irvin, Kremer, Wells, and...definitely not Povich? Wells is pretty far from a lock to last in the rotation for an entire season. I don't think it's hard to see Povich in the rotation full-time.
  6. I think I could be convinced to move Mayo as the headliner for a top of the rotation pitcher with multiple years of club control. You're only getting Basallo if you can pry him from my cold dead hands.
  7. Terry Crowley's lucky he's in baseball. He got cut by the **** **** Cincinnati Reds, He got cut by the **** **** Atlanta Braves...
  8. Webb has been great since coming over, and he wasn't awful before. It's hard to believe the Angels waived him, but their loss is our gain.
  9. We've had about a million starting pitcher injuries. Burns and Means are gone after the season. There's plenty of opportunity.
  10. How is hitting a 108 MPH liner worse than striking out?
  11. Dang! McKenna scorches one but can't find the outfield grass
  12. He's a replacement level reliever, what don't you get? He's not so terrible we can't get him out the door fast enough, but he shouldn't be hard to replace. Maybe there's more in the tank, but we're pretty much at the age and point where he is what he is.
  13. I guessed Ramirez, but wouldn't be super sad to see either him or Baumann go.
  14. Then we'll have the best catching Tandem in baseball and a replacement for Adley when he walks in a couple years.
  15. We still need a backup C and if that backup C mashes like a first baseman and plays first base or DHs on his "off" days, that would be incredible. I would absolutely like to acquire Miller, but the best player I'm trading for him is probably Kjerstad. If they want someone else in the deal, depending on who that is I'm not necessarily opposed to it.
  16. It's probably either this or incredibly minor, but man, we can't catch a break with our rotation health this year.
  17. It's a concern, but not on the level of Miller's arm. I don't claim to be an expert on elbow fractures, but I doubt that would stop him from being a first baseman. Loewen was a pitcher--I don't think that's comparable unless you only use him to point out that elbow fractures can be recurring. I'm not saying there's zero chance the elbow completely derails Basallo, but I'd put the odds of that well under 10%. I have to admit, I was somewhat wrong about this. I count 7 catchers last year with at least 300 PA and an OPS of .800+. There were 17 first basemen who fit the same criteria. I'm having a harder time defining elite closer, but 7 is a pretty reasonable number. Maybe Bednar, Williams, Hader, Bautista, Phillips, Iglesias, Duran? That said, I'm still not trading Basallo for Miller. We're going to be good for a decade--we don't need to commit to that level this year. I also have far more faith that Elias can find us a good reliever on the scrap heap than a catcher.
  18. Basallo's reasonable floor is pretty good first baseman. Miller's reasonable floor is he blows out his arm and/or has other injuries and isn't the same after he comes back.
  19. I believe he'll be a good productive major-leaguer while under team control. I also believe he'll be a DH by his early 30s, though he won't be valueless in that role. The bat is pretty strong. If I'm Oakland and think I need OF help/offense more than I need an elite reliever, I'd consider the deal. I don't know enough about the A's current situation to know for sure if I'd make the deal from their seat. I might try to get more from the O's, but I'm not sure who else we could give up that Oakland would want that wouldn't blow up the deal for me.
  20. Miller absolutely would be worth more to the O's. That doesn't diminish Kjerstad's value to Oakland.
  21. I don't know if Oakland would do Miller for Kjerstad or not. I sort of doubt it, but that doesn't mean it isn't fair on paper. I'd rather have 6-7 years of a LH hitting catcher who hits like a very good first baseman than 6 years of very good to excellent closer. It's easier to find the latter than the former by a lot.
  22. I'm going off BaseballTradeValues. They have Kjerstad and Miller at something like 27.8 and 25.6 and Basallo at 53.6 Only way Miller is worth way more than that is if you think he can start.
  23. Oakland would absolutely do that. It would be a massive overpay on our part. Something like Kjerstad for Miller would be more fair, and I'd consider that trade.
  24. I'm ready to cut Urias and bring up Mayo. Not sure Elias is. I still think Mayo comes up first. They can't keep him down too much longer, and I don't think they want to yo-yo Holliday.
