Glad to hear the velocity is up, because last time he was pitching the velocity was like 88-91, IIRC

I think I've seen enough of Shawn Armstrong

Not sure what they see with Waddell. Only scouting report I can find on the guy is from like three years ago and calls him a "four-pitch pitchability lefty who has trouble commanding his pitches." His professional walk rate is like 5-something.

You know, every time I think about the runner on second base rule, I keep thinking about 5/6/2012 (Chris Davis pitches and gets the win) and how that game wouldn't have been possible with that rule. To me, that game was the turning point for the Orioles that kicked off our five-year run. Only game I've watched where I was in tears at the end.
I understand the benefits of having a runner on second. But if the cost is no more games like that one, I don't think I'll ever be fully on board with it-

Would it have been a perfect game if it was a passed ball instead?
-
Armstrong I get, but with Lakins are you guys in favor of cutting any reliever with back to back bad outings, or just ones with a limited track record?
-
So is he going in the rotation? He's had most of his professional experience as a reliever, which makes me think maybe not. Plutko to rotation?
Eh, most likely there will be a different move for a starter

Sure is easy from the couch right?
Well, I'm pretty sure I couldn't strike him out myself
But man is he a hacker. I guess we've been missing that since Jones and Schoop left

If I were pitching to Ryan Mountcastle, I'd never throw anything in the zone once I had two strikes on him. Actually, I might never throw him a strike
-
What the hell did Mountcastle just swing at?

I define "ace" as a starting pitcher who consistently maintains a sub-3.00 ERA, or roughly the top 5-10 pitchers in the league.
I define "starting pitcher" as someone who can get through 5+ innings on a regular basis without totally imploding. The below definitions assume the previous statement
#1 starter: 80th percentile starting pitcher ERA
#2 starter: 60th percentile ERA
#3 starter: 40th percentile ERA
#4 starter: 20th percentile ERA
#5 starter: the rest
-
Not a fan of sticking him in the bullpen. Would rather see him in the rotation

I feel like our guys should be taking the first four pitches then swinging vs. this guy...

I think it has to be between Means, Hays and Mountcastle. My guess is Means because of Hays's health issues and Mountcastle probably being a first baseman long-term
I guess Mancini could be a dark horse

There have probably been 1000 guys with Mickey Mantle talent and prospect status and about five of them have become Mickey Mantle.
This guy is one of my favorites. Good ol' Ruben Rivera

Nice feed by Ruiz. Galvis has a crappy SS arm for sure

I would hate to trade any of those three because those are our legit pieces but it depends on the offer. As we've seen, the Gausman and Machado trades have yet to pay off.
It sucks the trades haven't paid off as we hoped, but they were in their last seasons of team control and we weren't contending. It 100% made sense to trade them for the best package available
-
Looks like he could be a solid innings-eating 4th-5th starter. Each outing he had one really inefficient inning that drove up his pitch count. If he can learn to avoid that going forward, the dude will be a life saver for the bullpen. I doubt his ERA will stay much south of 4.50 long-term though

Palmer thinks that will happen eventually.
So do I unless Hunter Harvey somehow manages to stay healthy

Cedric is really something out there

That whole Ruiz at bat was some crap. I'd have been pissed, too

VOTE FOR PEDRO!

Harvey's getting squeezed at the top of the zone
EDIT: but the ump gives him a gift strike 3 outside -
Frickin middle-middle fastball

Machado to the Dodgers, 5-1 deal

Hate to say it, but yeah. It's still a little early to close the book on this one, but it's looking like we got solid nothing for Machado. Didn't expect a king's ransom for half a season of him, but I expected better than nothing
