Nice feed by Ruiz. Galvis has a crappy SS arm for sure

I would hate to trade any of those three because those are our legit pieces but it depends on the offer. As we've seen, the Gausman and Machado trades have yet to pay off.
It sucks the trades haven't paid off as we hoped, but they were in their last seasons of team control and we weren't contending. It 100% made sense to trade them for the best package available

Looks like he could be a solid innings-eating 4th-5th starter. Each outing he had one really inefficient inning that drove up his pitch count. If he can learn to avoid that going forward, the dude will be a life saver for the bullpen. I doubt his ERA will stay much south of 4.50 long-term though

Palmer thinks that will happen eventually.
So do I unless Hunter Harvey somehow manages to stay healthy

Cedric is really something out there

That whole Ruiz at bat was some crap. I'd have been pissed, too

Harvey's getting squeezed at the top of the zone
EDIT: but the ump gives him a gift strike 3 outside -
Frickin middle-middle fastball

Means threw 93 pitches. You could have maybe left him in for one more batter, but pulling him is defensible

The problem with sending down McKenna while Hays is out is that it pencils in either Santander or Valaika as the backup centerfielder.
I think Santander can handle that for a game or two without being a total embarrassment

This is starting to become more difficult than it should be to answer, but I'm still going to go with Hays. There are serious questions about Mullins. Hays is the better player by far and as such he'll probably get more opportunities if he struggles. The injury thing is real, but I'm not going to let one hamstring injury tip the scales. Before the season I would have said Hayes and three great games from Mullins and one injury doesn't change that

Got into a mini argument with a friend about this once a few years back when the Os were having winning seasons. He mentioned something about how leaving a lot of men on wasn’t going to lead to future wins because it wasn’t a sustainable formula (or something to that effect). I argued that, if anything, it should tell you that the current winning is sustainable because the run creation opportunities are there and you aren’t eking out wins purely by lucky sequencing. That said, there are certainly better predictive measures than LOB, but the interpretation of the stat is often questionable in my opinion.
Exactly, you can't leave many guys on base unless you're hitting them there and it's hard to score runs if you're not hitting

Hey! Rule V guy siting!

I thought so... but WTF does he have to do with the Red Sox?
I think it's also a play on words with the "Son of Sam" killer

Son Of Sam Horn. It's a Red Sox fan message board where they have a lot of bad-tempered posters

SOSH must be imploding right now

Glad Sulser could go two scoreless. Was it him last year who was pretty good in the first inning and always blew up in the second, or am I thinking of someone else?

Cool that you don't care. But Zimmerman and Hyde and Holt and Elias all care about how Zimmerman feels - physically and emotionally - after this start.
There is no justification for declaring that removing him from this game is a failure of his nor management's. i don't know what got you so worked up, but you are trying to turn success into tragedy.
Or, hopefully more success. How should we determine when leaving the starter in is turning success into tragedy?

Since when is Cole Sulser a multi-inning guy?

Or get rule V guys into a game.
Yeah, blowouts are good for that. Wish that's what Hyde had done if he had to pull Zimmerman

It ensures his QS. Makes him leave on a really high note. And he will get the W unless the slim chance of the pen allowing 7 runs in 3 innings comes true. Plus this is his third MLB appearance! Use kid gloves. Build on the good.
And if the wins and losses don't count, I can't see a reason to not protect Zimmerman.
Don't care about the QS, leaving on a high note, or the W. If Zimmerman can't deal with that kind of adversity, he likely doesn't have the mental fortitude to be a professional athlete.
The reason not to "protect" Zimmerman is because like you said it's his third major league start and he could use the experience pitching at the major league level. Would also not like to go to the bullpen if we don't have to. It's a long season

I didn't watch, but if his command was really slipping, I guess maybe it's justifiable. Still, we're up by 7. Seems like a good time for the starter to eat innings so we can save the relievers for a closer game
-
Don't like pulling Zimmerman at 73 pitches. Yes, yes, I know, inning totals last year, but still

Hays left the game with right hamstring discomfort.

Fingers crossed it's incredibly minor and the only reason they took him out was that they were up by 10 runs in the third game of the season
