Go Os! -
Thanks for not making us watch your awful AB for very long, Austin.

Should Santander be traded this offseason?

Who do you think would be a suitor for Hays? -
Trout playing with a chip on his shoulder against the Yankees & Red Sox on prime time might just be what the marketing/branding doctor ordered for this franchise. Insanely risky but the rewards could be incredible.

22 games left - what non-rookie performances are important to you?
emmett16 replied to Frobby's topic in Orioles Talk
Urias - stay steady, keep improving Mateo - small improvements hitting Mountcastle - show me something Hays - show me you have a heartbeat Mullins - end strong and set tone for 2023 Bradish - keep maturing and gaining experience/confidence Kremer - show me an out pitch Wells - show me some domination and get me excited for next year -
Two weeks ago he had the worst contact in baseball. Maybe he could be this generations Frobby and he could get all his long awaited playoff glory as a Bird

Would you offer a 10/$50 mm deal right now to any of these MiL players?
emmett16 replied to Frobby's topic in Orioles Talk
I have Holliday & G Rod. Might be appealing to G Rod after his ordeal this year. Holliday could hit FA at 29 with 58MM in bank. The others have some question marks for me that would cause me pause investing in them (at this juncture). Wouldn’t think twice writing a check to Grayson & Jackson. -

I’m not sold on Mayo yet. I think next year could be huge for him, but he has some questions to answer for me. This would be the year to get a steaL of a deal, but I think it’s risky. Especially with his body size + some of the nagging injuries he’s had to date. I’d like to see one solid dominating year form him before I pay him. -

58MM isn’t a bad pay day before you turn 29. Plenty of time for a second deal and if all falls right that second deal would be massive. -
That was my exact thought. When Gunnar booter the balls at 2b v. Blue Jays everything came back down to Earth. We were all hoping he'd pull a Manny and put us on his shoulders (at least defensively) and that was kind of it. Need to finish on a high note.

I jumped on his case for what I thought was an bad post game interview earlier in the season(maybe his first start). It didn’t seem like he was prepared for the questioning and I thought he came off immature. I’d like to say that he’s really done a fantastic job of maturing through the seasons and staying focused during the game for every pitch. His post game interviews have shown that same maturity and focus. It’s been very encouraging to see the growth in that regard. I was not high on him earlier in the year, but I’m starting to expect a good outing every time he gets the ball now.

After never seeing catchers interference in MLB I’ve now seen it a dozen times this year. Seriously - what in the world is going on.
-
“Ryan, we are going to need you to pitch. But I promise to play you at your favorite position tomorrow and bat lead-off.” I can see that going down. I think she’s on to something.

MLB competition committee to vote on rule changes Friday
emmett16 replied to ShoelesJoe's topic in MLB
I realize the batting break down is just about the same, and that’s kinda my point. Starting back in 2012 with the start of the shift massive holes started opening up, holes that had never been there. It’s easier to hit a ball the other way than it is to hit it over the fence. You don’t need perfect contact and massive EVs. I guess I always thought that there would be some natural progression and a team or player would try to take advantage of the new holes created and start a new trend. But in an age of getting paid to hit the HR and launch angle, no one took that gamble with their careers. It just seemed to me that making hitting into the hole a focus, a player could really impact his OBP. I think I was just wrong. -
My son: “dad why is MacKenna batting lead-off and playing CF?” me: “Ceddie is getting the day off” My son: (confused look) “is it his birthday or something?”

Right on cue. Solid center oppo pop.

I don’t mind the change, but I was hoping it would have happened organically instead of being mandated. I realize it’s hard to ask the players to take pay cut by hitting ball the other way and no try to hit a HR every AB, but I just assumed batters would eventually make an adjustment to take advantage of what the defense was giving them. I think the long term outcomes will be beneficial and batters w/o power will stop selling out for HRs trying to raise their pay and start to focus more on OBP skills. I guess we will see. -
I think everyone is rooting for Heston. Great story and a shot in the arm for the system if he breaks out.
-
Having seen both in person a few times each now (Westburg much more), IMO Ortiz has jumped Westburg. His ABs are very impressive, he’s showing the pop, he’s a tick faster, and the defense is special. Westburg is a fine player but on D he is prone to the occasional botched routine play & the arm can get a little off at times. He’s prone to extended cold streaks at the plate. Pretty fantastic we have both!!!
-
3 for 4 with another homer. He’s en fuego .419avg 1.131 ops since AAA call up.
-
Another 2 BBs tonight out of the lead off spot. His OBP is .180 higher than his avg through 60+ PAs. He’s quietly having an amazing start to his career. 25 BBs to 11Ks so far. Impressive.

Yea Ceddie!!!! … what are you doing Ceddie!!!!

The Shift is Being Banned - How Does This Help/Hurt the O's?
emmett16 replied to nvpacchi's topic in Orioles Talk
Bigger bases helps us as well. It’ll be interesting to see if steals increase with the distance between bases being shortened a little bit. -

This will reward teams that focus on defense. I believe it will help the Os. -
Haskin hit #15 tonight. Sneaking towards that magic 20HR number that will get some people excited. He’s been streaky on season, but has improves from last year and now sits with a very respectable .823 OPS. 7 years ago and we’d be going crazy for this guy.
