  1. It was ironic when Mr. Play-it-Safe died in the plane crash, I felt.
  2. You think this was a Manfred idea?
  3. http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?player_id=621521#/career/R/hitting/2020/ALL Brian Mundell on the Rockies was added to the restricted list yesterday. He's not a major leaguer but was invited to summer cap with the Rockies. I'm guessing he's sitting out. There's no news about it other than the MLB transaction. He had been playing in Summer Camp games though. Maybe he got popped for roids.
  4. *scribbles on clipboard* ”must... rework... entire approach... to baseball” Let’s see, oh yeah: ”Develop the tools... you have.. yet to excel with... in over nine years... of professional and collegiate... baseball... experience” Think I got it. I’ll let him know.
  5. Just saying that if the Braves have room for six outfielders (three of them are amazing prospects at the MLB level) and they still desire to add Puig to replace Markakis; I dunno what to tell you. Braves look like a better franchise than the Orioles at present.
  6. Evidently it's a 2020 Braves move who just won 97 games, and have a young outfield of Acuna, Riley, and if not Nick Markakis then top prospect Cristian Pache. Oh and don't forget Inciarte and Ozuna. But sure, keep telling me that Smith, Williams, and Wilkerson are suddenly in line for storied Orioles careers because we didn't sign Puig.
  7. Oh stop. They are literally practicing with ghost outfielders because they don't have anyone to play the position.
  8. Don't really understand how you're above signing a guy who hit .297/.377/.423 last year and is coming on a cheap 1 year contract in a waste of a season.
  9. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/07/braves-sign-yasiel-puig.html (the source on this is literally just the Mark Feinsand tweet)
  10. They added Dean Kremer to the pool this morning and put Martin on the 45-day injured list.
  11. Well specifically in Blach’s case because he’s basically org filler. But if Rutschman (god forbid) gets a season ending hangnail they’d have to be able to have the option to place him on the 45-day IL even if he’s not on the 40-man.
  12. I would think that is true, they would not want teams like the Orioles to purposefully DFA a bunch of players and keep stacking their taxi squad. Because let’s face it: I know, you know, everybody knows that a lot of the Oriole forty man is filler.
  13. I'll speculate that there is no reason why a non-40 man roster player can't be placed on the 45-day IL. It doesn't require a move on or off the the 40-man. I just looked up the rules and it's not direct about how the 45 day IL can be used. https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-announces-2020-regular-season http://m.mlb.com/glossary/injuries/10-day-injured-list
  14. That is my understanding; a player needs to be designated to come off the 60-man. There is an exception for COVID, where three or more players that contract coronavirus they can come off without penalty. Injury cases requiring the new "45 day IL" works the same as it does now; they come off the roster but no exposure to other teams. Martin and Blach haven't been officially moved but surely will.
  15. "Should we be expecting?" Most other clubs have added their first rounders from 2020, it would surprise me if we do not. No guarantees.
  16. Are you sure that’s what PIA stands for? Because it sounds like it should stand for something else.
  17. He also says he has a license to take digs at Britton because they’re friends, so while it was probably a cheap shot at Britton, just locker room jabs between penmates.
  18. That’s killer for a guy like him. I’m guessing he hurt that fingernail clawing onto his roster spot.
  19. I intend to explore VPN options this season; looking specifically at NordVPN.
  20. Just looking: the 2017 Orioles rotation had a franchise worst 5.70ERA and 45 wins (which is 57th most out 66 Orioles seasons). The bullpen picked up the other 30, which is 8th most bullpen wins in O's history (34 wins being the most, and for reference, the magical 2012 bullpen with Jim Johnson and his 51 saves had 32 wins). The 2017 bullpen was fairly pedestrian but hardly a problem for the 2017 team. Going back to 1954 at the start of the franchise in Baltimore, the 2017 Orioles had the 15th worst starter ERA of any team in baseball. If you take the all time worst starter ERA's across the league, you'll find that 45 wins is not uncommon for terrible rotations. The '99 Rockies had 49 wins with a 6.19 ERA. The '03 Rangers had 47 wins with a 6.24 ERA. The '01 Rangers had 51 wins with a 6.00 ERA. There are others and it's not a short list. The 2017 Orioles rotation and their 45 wins, while bad, were not special.
  21. Surprise! Orioles Legend Jeremy Guthrie, at 41yo, is on the roster for the Eastern Reyes del Tigres.
  22. Yasiel Puig makes the Orioles a slightly easier team to watch in 2020. Full stop.
