I don’t understand why MLB teams chose to stack their taxi squads with players who have no chance of playing for the big league team this year. Maybe I’m missing the big picture but it would seem the taxi squad concept was implemented to avoid the problems the Marlins are having right now. Like, why does Max Meyer need a taxi squad spot? If you want to give him reps at the Alternate training site, just get all of your minor leaguers together and scrimmage them in some unofficial capacity. It’s probably me who is missing the point, because I’m the one in the armchair.

I noticed this with the Indians the other day. Bradley Zimmer is the only whitebread guy on the starting 9. C Leon 1B C. Santana 2B Hernandez 3B Ramirez SS Lindor CF Mercado RF D. Santana DH Reyes

Personally, it’s guys like Bleier you should be trading because they are good. The guy is 33. He’s pitching well. The Orioles can move him for someone else. Someone younger. A person with promise. The Orioles can call up a younger pitcher to replace him. Bad teams can do that. They should do that. Half of you complain when dudes like Bleier start imploding and the O’s DFA him for absolutely no return and wonder why they didn’t trade him earlier. Other teams do not want bad pitchers. His peripherals aren’t great, you have a needy buyer and leverage over them ... this is the best opportunity to trade a guy like Dick Bleier to his hometown team.

Sounds like pretty good compensation for having to suffer through uncertainty.

If I was able to get paid and accrue service time at my job while not having to do anything, yes and yes to that

No one's pointed out that Markakis is pretty close to some big hitters milestones, I'm going to speculate that it could have something to do with that.

It hard to tell what’s going to happen with the sport in general, but what is the reasoning behind shortening the rosters gradually? Wouldn’t it make sense in this climate to just have 30 guys on hand?
