  1. And as long as our current RF options are sucking hardcore I promise to keep thinking outside it! Nick Markakis so far: .325/.413/.525 .938 O's Right Fielders: .167/.222/.310 .532 I'm sure that gap will narrow quite a bit just naturally, but we'll see by how much.
  2. But the real reason I posted on this thread is that I think Nick is a better RF than almost anyone we are likely to start there this year..............certainly for the foreseeable future. The Braves must have some needs.........just trying to think outside the box a little.
  3. Agreed that there is likely no reason that the Braves would be interested in Trumbo. Just wishful thinking probably. If we're serious about trying to move him we'd probably need to find an offensively challenged AL team.
  4. Fair enough. So it seems like you actually agree with me about the Nick vs Trumbo thing and were just trolling. Thanks.......wish we could've figured that out a bit earlier on tho.
  5. Alright, I should've have anticipated that.........you've made it clear you're pro tanking this year to build for the future. Bringing up kids to see what they got, etc. That's a fine intellectual experiment to ponder in the realm of the hypothetical, but we know it has no basis in reality in terms of how Duquette and Buck are running the team this year. I should've phrased it this way: If you were in charge of the current roster AND you were planning on competing for a playoff spot, what would you do? Bonus question #2. Who do you think accumulates more bWAR this year, Nick or Trumbo?
  6. OK, that's a valid move to make. Then what happens with Trumbo, Pedro, Valencia? Do we then jettison one of them and have a platoon DH situation? I'm looking at trying to slightly improve the present, and help our payroll flexibility for 2019. Past 4 years - Trumbo has been worth around 3 WAR Past 4 years - Markakis has been worth 6 WAR Markakis is making less money, AND we would not be committed to him beyond 2018. Neither one is an elite defender at this point, so I think that's basically a wash or maybe Nick is slightly better. Markakis has never lost his OBP abilities.....something this team sorely needs. Plus we'd be out from Trumbo's contract for next year. I'm just pointing out it's not a crazy idea, we could use some payroll help. I guess the risk is that Trumbo remembers how to hit again after a really bad 2017.
  7. If you were given the keys to the car right now, who do you put as the regular RF?
  8. Time to give the Braves a phone call? Really wouldn't mind seeing him in RF again. Probably need them to take Trumbo though and I'm not sure that will help things that much.
  9. Best way to give our bullpen a boost is to have our starters actually complete 5 or 6 innings consistently.
  10. Probably should pick a different example than Ripken..............with apologies to Brooks. Maybe Belichick in New England.
  11. And yea, it's always interesting to me when Buck calls out a guy in public like this. Usually he seems to defend guys to a fault. I can't think of too many examples. I think I agree with Tony that it seems like he probably needs an attitude adjustment and this might be the way to do it.
  12. 17 walks in 538 PA in the minor leagues last year............that is indeed pretty bad. a BB rate of 3.16%. MLB average is apparently 8.5%. According to bb-ref every Oriole had a lower than average BB rate for us in 2017 except for Davis, Gentry, Seth Smith, and Flaherty. I assume Buck's argument is when you get promoted to MLB your rate is likely going to fall even further. Joey Rickard is an interesting case; he walked at a 12.7% rate across AA and AAA but last year it fell dramatically to 3.3%.
  13. Correa and Bregman were #2 and #6 on the Astros in WAR this season. So I think they were pretty significant contributors. Sounds like they made good decisions all around. Just read that Altuve was signed at 17 from Venezuela. That's pretty crazy to see where he is now. Seems like it's def better to be lucky than good at times.
  14. The Cleveland Native Americans.
  15. And they lose 2-1. Talk about a gut punch. The Nationals may be the worst super team in the league.
  16. Nationals now trail going to the 9th inning. Poor Scherzer.
  17. Markakis OPS by season (since going to ATL) 2015: .746 2016: .744 2017: .747 (so far) I'm not really sure he could be more consistent if he tried. He is on pace for a (roughly) 1 WAR season.......not amazing but not that bad either.
  18. Pretty sure that request will be denied, just fyi. Tony is quite clear about what topics can and can't be discussed on here. There are plenty of places you can go to discuss politics.........just not here.
  19. Today I learned that Brian Matusz has a World Series ring. I have no words.
  20. Craziness I know. A lot of the names are the same, they're just pitching much worse. Makes you wonder what's going on.
  21. Also note that Keuchel will be starting Tuesday's WC game on short (3 days) rest.
  22. Wonder if the Braves would sell.
  23. So this is kinda depressing. De Aza with the BoSox this year: .317/.364/.610/.973 in 27 games. I imagine they're using him as strictly a platoon OF (his splits are incredibly dramatic this year) but still.
  24. You've gotta still respect the OBP weams. That's always valuable. Even with his decreasing power, he was good for roughly 2 offensive WAR last year, good for top 5 on the team. Trying to make a serious argument that he was the 10th best hitter makes you look like you have an agenda against him imo. Not sure if you were really saying that or not.
  25. 2/16 overall this spring. Will be mildly interesting to see how much Nick we see during those 3 consecutive games against the Braves we get to end Spring Training. Wonder why they do that.........maybe teams don't want to face division opponents?
