  1. You misunderstand me. You are Kim. You have a 4/25 offer on the table from the Padres, what would the O's have to offer you to go to Baltimore instead? Would you go play in Baltimore for an extra 2-3M? I wouldn't. You'd have to go north of 30 before I'd seriously start considering it.
  2. I'm not saying it will happen, just we haven't heard anything to preclude it from happening. It isn't as if the local media will hold anyone accountable. They can blame the labor uncertainty.
  3. If only the Padres valued them higher than their prospect rank they would have been loathe to give them up.
  4. Or Elias states that wins don't matter in 2022 and we have another year of slow rolling promotions and waiver wire regulars.
  5. You don't need 4+ years of top 4 draft picks to rebuild.
  6. If he hadn't of had the physical issue that caused the Astros to not sign him he very well might not have been a "miserable failure". The Astros had no way of knowing that the issue existed when they selected him.
  7. I don't think even Elias is worried about Martin's clock but for you record if you send a guy down it stops his clock.
  8. I'm happy to admit that what experts in the field think influences my opinion. I was just pointing out that your post was an attempt to get a "gotcha" moment and that I didn't even need to bring up what the community thinks to reach a conclusion. I also didn't say that I want someone closer to the majors. I most certainly didn't say I want a lesser talent, in fact I said the opposite. If I were the Cubs I would have tried, if ownership had allowed it, to pay some money to increase the perceived value of the players coming back. I'm doubtful ownership would have been on board and I have no idea if the Padres had interest in such a deal.
  9. I know you are just trying to get me to say prospect lists. ? But I don't even have to mention what industry experts say. I could just mention the inexperience of the players acquired and how as a general role players that are further away carry more risk. Or I could just use basic logic. If it was a 4+1 for 2 trade than it's logical that either the Padres grossly, and I mean grossly overpaid or that the parties involved don't value the four prospects that highly. We do have a history of similar trades and returns to compare it to.
  10. I never said this was a bad deal. I said I wasn't impressed by the return. Maybe this was the best possible deal, I can still be unimpressed. In general I'd rather get fewer players that are more likely to provide value on the ML team than more players with a lesser chance.
  11. Wow, what kind of crap franchise goes through a twelve year playoff drought?
  12. If you paid attention to anyone's post other then your own you would know I dislike the quantity over quality approach. All too often you end up with more of nothing. The Padres also have the look of a team primed to overpay.
  13. Don't tell me my thought process.
  14. Pay me millions and I'd much rather live in SD.
  15. Machado doesn't play short for the Padres. And I asked how much more they would have to offer you. On one hand you have a playoff team on the west coast who is making big moves and on the other you have an East coast team who is in year four of win s don't matter with no end in sight. I'd have to really prefer playing short over second.
  16. If you were Kim and you had an offer from the Padres and the O's how much more money would the O's have to offer you?
  17. I wasn't impressed by the return the Cubs received and I'm interested in how far into sell mode they are going to go. The Cubs shouldn't have to worry about payroll, their market should allow them to stay at the salary cap threshold.
  18. All the money they saved by gaming Tatis's service time.
  19. Mountcastle won the AAA MVP and didn't get a September call-up and had no chance of making the team out of spring training the following year. It isn't about proving yourself. It is about controlling the player's service time. Elias is slow rolling promotions to concentrate talent in an attempt to create a window of competitiveness.
  20. They had a 78 and a 79 win team right after they were competitive and a 78 win team that finished 23 games out after signing Tejada. I'm guessing that if the 2010 team had did that folks would have been very happy.
  21. I think Elias wants to control their promotions to best serve the long term interest of the team. If the team does become competitive while he is here I expect guys to get promoted more quickly if they can help the team.
  22. It isn't funny to make fun of old people.
