  1. You could cut him. Or eat 75% of his salary and flip him. Myers isn't the important part, it's the effective buying of prospects.
  2. That depends on how you value the player(s) coming back. The O's are limited in what they can spend on the draft and in the International market. This is a way to add talent that isn't limited in the same fashion. Remember the Dodgers spent 31M on Diaz and the Red Sox spent 72M on Castillo.
  3. Tom House's comments don't make it sound like a small percentage.
  4. For a Wildcard? They certainly are.
  5. Guys were using decades before Conseco showed up.
  6. And the total busts, say a Mark Appel, provide more value (0) than someone who was actually good enough to make the majors but produced negative value once they got there.
  7. Can't drive in a runner on second with a walk.
  8. Some? Sure, guys bust. But on the other hand someone like Acuna has already put up 75M in excess value in just two years.
  9. Sure, I wasn't suggesting otherwise, Mancini was a great pick. I chose him because he was the closest to an "average" MLB starter in terms of value I could think of off hand.
  10. Two wins a year is a pretty average baseline for a MLB starter. It was why I chose him. It will be slightly disappointing if AR doesn't beat that.
  11. By rWAR Mancini has been worth 5.9 wins. At 8M a win that is about 48M. He has been paid about 2M.
  12. I think firing Manfred would be less complicated than pursuing players, and more satisfying for fans.
  13. Because I don't think firing him hurts ownership at all. I think their is a decent shot this blows over if they blame Manfred for mishandling it. They could bring in a "law and order" type to be their agent of reform and then not change anything.
  14. I think ownership would be better off sacrificing Manfred.
  15. Sure, I was annoyed when the O's were on the other side of these deals. I just don't see ownership acquiescing.
  16. I was trying to be self deprecating. Guess I missed. Here I thought folks were happy when I admitted I was wrong about something.
  17. Not that hard. I saw three years at 30M and multiplied them to get 90M then divided by two to get 45M. Sure I was distracted and misread it but it isn't that hard to figure out my mistake. I don't see the Orioles taking on bad contracts for players or draft picks. I don't think ownership would approve such a deal.
  18. I don't see the Orioles adding 45M in payroll obligations. I also think 45M is a pretty substantial overpay.
  19. So? You said brawl, it was a brawl. Killed an otherwise very promising career. Possibly cost the kid millions.
  20. First name that comes to my mind is Brien Taylor. He hurt his shoulder in a brawl and was never the same. Former #1 pick overall. Hard to believe in this day and age someone is advocating for physical violence in the workplace.
  21. So the pitchers who also knew about it and benefited would be exempt. Seems fair?
  22. Yea, maybe someone can get hurt, that'd be a hoot. Maybe some kid can get a career ended injury when he was on the cusp of the majors. Wouldn't that be "interesting"? Throwing at guys is dumb and dangerous. Charging the mound is dumb and dangerous. Brawling is dumb and dangerous.
  23. Anyone else remember the Brian Roberts colored contacts? Whatever happened to those?
  24. What integrity? Guys have been cheating since day two.
