True but I saw a substantial number of bats in which he only saw one strike, and he tattooed it. He certainly had a very good idea of the strike zone.

I was throwing out a couple guys with a pretty decent sense of the strike zone that played in the period between Williams and Harper. I think there is a huge tendency in today's society to call the current hot thing the hottest thing ever.
  3. Didn't say I thought he would be. Just that I was reminded that the list came out.
  4. So did my friend the Braves fan. At this point why not? Zero makes a lot better story then six.
  5. A bargain at the price! All this talk of Markakis reminds me, I have to go look at Fangraphs' worst five contracts.
  6. Let me know when he passes Delmon Young.
  7. My take: They were under pressure from the union to raise payroll and the easiest way to bump short term payroll is veteran relief pitching.
  8. They should be buyers. They have plenty of prospects and payroll room.
  9. He's had some doubles recently.

  11. NP. I have to admit you had me confused for a bit there. It is probably why you thought I was ducking your question. We were just not having the same conversation.
  12. I never said you did. Initially all I said was that they were still in first place. Then I used the example of the '89 club to show that a first place club coming off poor seasons could weather a sustained losing streak and not collapse.
  13. The '89 Orioles were the perfect example to use since, as I stated, they set the record for the longest losing streak by a team in first place that retained control of first place. What happens in the next two seasons isn't relevant since the O's had no where near the farm system of the current Astro team. But...if you want an example of a young team with a history of losing starting off strong, fading, and coming back in later seasons to become a contender....I give you the current Pittsburgh Pirates.
  14. What relevance is the six losing seasons? Is there a single player from the 2009 Astros still on the roster? (no there isn't) These kids are not hanging their heads about what happened to the 2010 team.
  15. The '89 Orioles had the longest losing streak ever by a first place team to not relinquish first place. They didn't crumble and fall apart. (even if they did eventually finish second)
  16. I guess it wasn't a good idea to collide with the baserunner.

  18. I was talking about him to my fiend that is a Braves fan. He has written off the season before it started and is now hoping Nick doesn't hit a HR.
  19. Nice OBP but that slugging is brutal. Have to wonder if he can maintain his walk rate.
  20. I forgot the whole making no pretense of fielding a competitive teams for three seasons. And cutting payroll so deep that the Union got upset.
  21. The Astros have ticked off a lot of folks with how they have engineered the rebuild. They have upset folks with how they have handled the draft, with how they have dealt with free agents and how they have approached player development. You also have "old school" folks that think the Astros have gone too far on the analytics side. And of course Weams doesn't like them.
