I'd say limiting the criteria to established ML pitchers is a bit self-defeating since the vast majority of them are going to be folks trying to improve when they are already in their decline phase of their careers.

The average K rate in 2023 was 8.7. (all pitchers) That's the fourth highest average behind 2020, 2021, and 2019. The 10th highest average is from 2014 at 7.7.

Or that any improvement would be slight. Because the scale doesn't go right from complete liability to good. Maybe you could have a person that is below average at something and have them improve to the point at which they were average.

What was Manny's best year on defense? 2013? That would have been his age 20 season. As for significant, it's a nebulous term. Obviously he isn't a hack right now but to go from where he is now to clearly better than the incumbent I think would be a significant change. I also wouldn't move Gunnar unless Jackson was clearly better.

I don't get why folks seem so certain he can improve significantly on defense. Defense peaks early and he's had the absolute best coaching his whole life. This might be who he is.
