He's not tho.
This season he had issues with his platoon splits but there is no real reason to think that's going to be the case going forward, since he didn't have such severe splits in the past. He actually hit right handed pitching better in 2022 and 2020.
Edit- I do agree that the O's could improve their production at first but at what cost?
Right now he's more of a guy and not a stud.
Mountcastle has obviously been trending down for a few years?
His 2023 OPS+ was higher than his career number and his WAR/162 was higher in 2023 than 2022. His walk rate was up and his K rate was down.
I don't see how you can look at his 2022 season and think it was superior to his 2023 season.
I don't think any team in MLB is stupid enough to trade more for Hays because he made an All-Star game.
So he pitches 70 innings out of the pen and for 2025 we hear, He's never thrown 100 innings, he can't be relied on to start!
I'm not saying his eventual home isn't in the pan, but I think it's premature to close the door on starting.
And maybe they would had Ortiz on the roster and he would have won them game 1?
Two can play this game.
You flatter me but I know more about baseball than I do navigating a billion dollar business.
Maybe if I had grown up in that environment and had folks that had knowledge I lacked that I could trust....
But I'd probably get taken advantage of pretty quickly.
That's what they should have been doing the past three seasons.
Instead we got Frazier.
They should be past the point where they are seeing what they got.
I said should have been.
I think the Angelos family squandered a really good opportunity. I think MASN is worth a small fraction of what it was initially. They should have gotten out before the bubble burst.
I never would have hired the guy that won 101 games. I would have been handed the team and right after I got out of the hospital after my heart attack I've had put the team up for sale. I know enough to know I would have no idea what I was doing.
But of course I'm not a nepo baby.
Tons?
I can think of two that we have evidence of working like this, Moreno and Reinsdorf. Maybe Cohen and Seidler.
I think most owners prefer to stay out of it.
It's not his sole source of income. He also has MASN. MASN should have been a huge cash cow for the family.
I also never said he wasn't within his rights to siphon that money off.
If somehow I got put into a position like that I'd put the team up for sale immediately. I'd take the huge windfall over trying to run something I have no idea how to run. Being an average Joe I have no support system in place and would have no idea whom to trust.
So what did he do with the tens of millions he siphoned off the team during the rebuild?
Also they have MASN as a second source of income but have apparently done a very poor job with it.
