I can't help but think John kinda lucked into Elias. Now obviously Elias was a qualified candidate, but I do have to wonder if the deciding factor was that a Astros style rebuild would result in a slashed to the bones payroll for a number of years.

It's just frustrating to have folks go "Why can't Mateo bunt?", "Why can't Hall throw strikes?" "Why can't Mountcastle lay off the slider?" These things are very hard to do. They aren't just choosing to fail.
