This is years, at a very low price.
That was months.
The O's could have an elite closer/set up man combo next year for two million. There is value in that.
Grayson's already missed time due to injury. Remember 2022?
Who knows how much time he'll miss between now and free agency.
It's a bad data point to have on his resume. It doesn't help him in any way and could potentially hurt him.
Why should he agree to that for no gain?
Would you let your employer do whatever the equivalent would be to you?
The arbitration stuff is just silly speculation about how a team could use his generosity against him and once again the IL trip would be a data point and not the whole argument.
You know what would be hilarious?
If Grayson agreed to a phantom IL stint and then the team used it against him in arbitration hearings.
What a hoot that would be.
No way a team would ever do something like that tho.
Teams that fake injuries are totally ethical in other respects.
And yes, teams are going to be looking at every IL stint when he gets to free agency. Are you going to spend hundreds of millions of dollars without doing your due diligence?
I don't disagree but the O's are in a position in which they could share all those costs with the NFL team right across the street. So it's not quite as bad as you suggest.
All the stats accumulate over the seasons. As does the reputation for being hurt. I don't want any fake trips to the IL on my record when I hit free agency or even when I get to arbitration.
Sometimes I do question what I think of as a poorly structured argument.
In this specific case I'd fall somewhere between Basallo and Kjerstad.
I don't think the one is enough and I wouldn't give up the other.
I do think the cost to acquire him in 2024 would be high.
Sure, but it's a possibility.
I'd say his value was pretty darn high already this offseason.
Look at someone like Jesus Montero, top 5 prospect over multiple seasons (BA and BP). Ended up being a bust.
You don't know until you know.
So Basallo's elbow fracture issue isn't a concern going forward but Miller's arm is?
I don't think you get to have both.
You do remember Loewen right? His stress elbow issues can returning.
