I really thought Galvis had more range - and capability at SS - than this.

Are you sure? Stewart is hitting pretty well, he’s defending pretty well, and he has a good eye, I don’t see any reason to choose Mountcastle over him
This is true - I'd like to see DJ out there both games. To be honest, I don't know if the two Marlins pitchers the Orioles are facing are lefties so that could play a role too.

Pretty simple statement, right. But with Hays coming off the IL, what does it mean? To me it means "If you hit, you play."
That means players that are hitting don't sit at this point. Maybe later when its hot or they are tired but not now. So Mullins CF (928 OPS), Urias 2B (816 OPS) Franco 3B (757 OPS), Stewart LF/DH (756 OPS), Galvis SS (725 OPS) should play every games, as long as they keep hitting.
Hyde says he will use a rotation with Hays returning. Who should be in the position player rotation? My answer is those that normally hit well but are not hitting well now. Mancini 1B/DH , Mountcastle 1B/DH, Santander RF and Hays OF should be in the rotation until they start hitting well. That means they play 3 games out of every 4 games.
(Mountcastle looked good at 1B the passed few games. He doesn't need to play LF with Hays and Stewart available.)
The leaves Severino/Sisco sharing catcher where neither is hitting. And Ruiz who should be a bench player for now at 2B/3B.
That is the way I would try to improve the offense. When someone hits better they play more. When the don't hit they sit more. Seems simple to me.
What is your take on who should be in Hyde's position player rotation?
Good post. Becomes even more interesting the next two games with no DH. I'm guessing Stewart sits one out and Mountcastle the other.

Hays is better at CF.
Mullins/Hays/Santander is OF COURSE the best defensive outfield.
Mullins at 2B is an intriguing idea. I wonder if it has been considered?
He throws left.

Correa would have to sink pretty low to be regarded more poorly than Delmon Young in my eyes and folks still cheered him.
I'm fine with "Jerk". Just don't delve into criminal activity.
Agreed. Delmon Young is by far the biggest "jerk" this team has had in the last twenty years (post Belle, who I know was also a "jerk"). Correa may be a jerk but I'd take him in a second as the SS for the next 5-7 years.

Should be 6 balls, runner on first and 2-0 on Mountcastle. But it's not. Cool.

3-0 swings at ball four and bounces out. Because Orioles.

Why? Why? Why? WHY??

Flicked to right. Good pitch, keep it going Cole.
Cole and Lakins looked great. Very good to see.

Camden Yards is a bandbox. There's no excuse for a team not being able to hit homeruns in this ballpark. This team doesn't have any power period.
The Orioles have to lead the league in long fly outs.

Mother of God!
Hard smash straight into the pitcher's glove. 1-4 DP.
Brown is right, we really cannot catch a break. We've also had some well hit fly balls this series (Mancini, Sisco, Mountcastle) that have died before the fence, yet hte Mariners are hitting home runs like they are going out of style.

Welp, can't blame the starting pitching (again). The hitting is atrocious and pathetic all mixed into one. It's a joke that Ruiz is still getting at bats with the MLB team

Looks like I'll be watching Married at First Sight with the Mrs. Don't judge, surprisingly good show.

Been raining all day, sometimes very lightly, sometimes harder. Forecast is that it will continue.
Seems like the right decision to me.
Fair enough. Thank you for clarifying.

I'm not in Baltimore so I don't know how bad it is, but whatever happened to, you know... trying to play the da*n games? Can they really not play in rain?

Alright! Already embarrassing ourselves in Game 1 against the Mighty Mariners.

Stewart is terrible, and I expect little from him, and will be surprised if he ever provides more than “little,” but there’s certainly no reason not to throw him into the fray and see how he does.
I disagree. I think we see a .750-.800 OPS from him this season with a full slew of at bats. I'm excited to see more of him.

I had not been too heavy into bashing the announcers. Wanted to give them a chance.
But after last night, I'm jumping on the bandwagon.
There isn't a more exciting way for a baseball game to end than with the tie run being thrown out at the plate for the last out.
And Scott Garceau's bland, low key description last night was so weak. Imagine how much more exiting it would have been with Joe Angel, Gary Thorne, or Jon Miller calling it. Or Chuck Thompson or Bill O'Donnell. Even some announcers we have had who weren't the most technically competent in the world, like Fred Manfra or Tom Marr, would have made it far more exciting. I almost felt I got cheated out of getting full enjoyment out of the moment because Garceau was so blase. I thought it was as bad as it could get.
But I was wrong. Very wrong. This morning while driving into work, 105.7 replayed the radio call of the final play by Melanie Newman. It was every bit as bland and it was hard to follow what happened too. It was absolutely terrible, completely unexciting and didn't convey a good mental image of what was happening. I was surprised that 105.7 wasn't too embarrassed to run that replay at all. If we pull a 1989 and have a season good enough to make a highlight video of, they will have to figure out a way to dub an actual announcer over either Garceau or Newman to include the finish to this game. Or use the Yankee broadcast. I'm no fan of John Sterling but I'm sure he did a good job conveying what happened on the play and the excitement of the moment.
Garceau is bad, Newman is AWFUL.

Whitlock went the pick before the Orioles. Man, it would be nice to have that arm.

Oh Scott.... not even close (though it did have a good sound.

He honestly didn't have a lot of challenging plays last year in the outfield. It pretty obvious when he has to make anything other than a routine play, he's going to struggle.
Also, the diving play by Mullins in left center.... probably a ball a good left fielder gets to, but we're fortunate to have Mullins.

Time to call up Diaz to play left everyday at least until Hays is back. I'd have Diaz starting in left Saturday night.
