  1. I am not trading Jackson Holliday for any player on the Brewers roster. Next.
  2. Well if you were Milwaukee, you’d be keeping Burnes and either moving him for less at the deadline or for nothing when he walks
  3. Being more up to date and conversant with analytics, dealing with millionaire players and media, coordinating more intensively involved coaches and their feedback in real time games, being more open to a team managing environment Billy Martin had none of those particular problems or skill sets lol .. so I would say the current manager role is different not less, which is a value judgement.
  4. Certainly that affects the salary structure, but even with that it seems the averages have gone down significantly in last 10 years. It was written before the huge Cubs/Braves deals so that obviously increases the average
  5. Pretty clear that ML managers are grossly underpaid “There are six managers this year earning less than $1 million and 15 managers earning $1.75 million or less. If those same managers went to college baseball, they’d get a pay raise, with 10 collegiate managers earning $1.2 million or more , according to USA TODAY Sports’ research, with Vanderbilt coach Tim Corbin topping the list at $2.47 million. “ https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/columnist/bob-nightengale/2023/10/08/major-league-baseball-managers-grossly-underpaid/71106218007/
  6. Yeah, that is what led to Marvin Miller lol
  7. Counsell has made some public statements about wanting to move the bar in general for future manager salaries, along with the thousand other reasons he may have wanted to change positions. As a prior MLBPA rep as a player, he was apparently pretty active in that regard.
  8. Apparently a major change as to the uniform contract structure just in the last week .. so different contracts will be even less comparable in some ways “MLB's commissioner's office had previously dictated the language in each contract. Now, teams will be responsible for supplying that portion of their pacts. As such, it's possible that the language and conditions of the "standard" contract varies on a team-by-team basis -- a change that could, in theory, make some clubs more or less worker-friendly, depending on their goals. It's too early to know if and how teams will wield this new freedom.” https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/mlb-makes-change-that-gives-teams-more-freedom-with-employee-contracts-how-they-use-it-remains-to-be-seen/amp/
  9. In light of Craig Counsell’s 5 year 40 million deal with Cubs and Joe Jiminez 3 year 26 million deal with Braves as noted in Athletic article today. It led me to wonder as to Brandon Hyde’s deal.. incentives for this kind of 2023 performance? A new and improved deal? Where does he fit on the ML manager payscale. Maybe others know more but Angelos has not said nor has Elias or Hyde except the vague interview back in March. Brandon should be in upper tier going forward imho. A lot of companies don’t talk about their human resources issues and their employment contracts,” Angelos said. “I’m here for the long haul. Mike is here for the long haul. Brandon is here for the long haul. We are all fully vested. We’re not going anywhere and nobody’s a short timer. Nobody is expiring in a year or two years or anything like that … It’s just not great policy for me to talk about people’s personal relationships. We’re all here under contract long-term.” https://www.baltimorebaseball.com/2023/02/19/john-angelos-says-orioles-arent-sale-lease-extension-payroll-elias-hyde-contracts/
  10. I believe he is .. more so even than Adley or Gunnar at their equivalent minor league stages.
  11. Matt Holliday had 44.5 WAR over 15 year MLB career with 7 All Star appearances.. hope Jackson gets more!!
  12. We shall see. He has a real gift. Griffey Jr at 19 , Vlad Jr at 20, Jackson will be 20 .. maybe prodigies /kids with excellent MLB fathers advance faster.
  13. Every team in MLB wants a good hitter and a TOR starter. Good luck. We a development team and depend deeply on finding the unexpected contributors-the Canos, the Coulombes, the O’Hearns , Hicks etc . So successful seasons will depend on how unexpectedly fast and far our prospects take us and whether we luck out with the value signings. We may upgrade the veteran starter a bit from Gibson or maybe sign him again. Hard to see us signing Sonny Gray but perhaps. We may trade some prospects for a Cease or Bieber type ..maybe but I doubt it. Can’t think of any bat like that available except Ohtani and we are not signing him. A signing like Nelson Cruz before 2014 would help but not sure who that might be.
  14. I agree with the OP assessment although having seen all of the ones listed… Jackson . even right now at 19, is the best bat on that list and in the system, imho. Yes they will work on some stuff defensively but had better do it quickly cause he is a freight train coming and soon. The Os upgraded from Lyles to Gibson.. if they can upgrade from that and add a quality high leverage reliever.. i am good. But Elias thought Mychal was that last winter .. turns out it was Coulombe and Cano that saved us. You just never know.
  15. 1. Keep Kjerstad, Trade Cowser Power bat 2. Keep Westburg, Trade Ortiz Solid starting infielder over maybe 3. Keep McDermott, Trade Povich Pick em. Bit of edge to McDermott 4. Keep Hays, Trade Santander Free agent to be 5. Keep Mayo, Trade Basallo Adley 6. Keep Urias, Trade Mateo Urias can hit
  16. So then no Urias or Mateo . Gotcha.
  17. Ummm you are not playing one of Ortiz, Westburg, Henderson, Holliday at first are you? So only 3 infield spots.
  18. Castro still blows lol ..
  19. Or perhaps Mullins.. maybe 4 years .. he is under control for 2 more arb years 2024 and 2025 .. so maybe 2 additional years
  20. Myself, I would like to see them extend Santander, maybe a 4 year deal. First though I want to see Gunnar and Adley extensions
  21. Would Elias get the request and deny the permission or Angelos?
  22. Ex O Miguel Castro with the loss .. Texas up 1-0
  23. Smoltz was right on top of that .. called Sewald trying to throw that same up in zone fastball but that Seager would get right on it .
  24. To protect against that possibility is probably why they don’t do it. But it is all just made up criteria and awards anyway.
