  1. I didn’t get to see tonight’s game against the Diamondbacks, but I just saw the highlight video of Gunnar’s play. Wow. That was an amazing and incredibly unique play. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything quite like that play. And the guy at third is very fast. Pretty spectacular.

Correct. Prospects are not to be criticized as they are all future all stars and better than veteran major leaguers. Only veterans, and management who puts them in the lineup, are to be criticized.

Also, you didn’t mention that all 4 were K’s

The prospect threads do tend to focus on good performances. But you just enjoy jerking people’s chains. You’re a troll. Granted, a pretty informed troll, but definitely a troll. That’s what is a little strange about your posts. You seem much brighter than most of the trolls, but even bright people can be vultures.

Why would you downvote him for making a mistake? Downvotes are typically only used if you think someone broke the board rules or just a really, really awful take.

You're talking about a guy who likes to post "0-4" in prospect threads when the player has a crap game. He seems to enjoy being a jerk.

I was joking, but if they plan on selling season tickets for next year by giving priority for 2023 playoff tickets, they’re going to have no choice but to make some kind of disclaimer and give fans an out.

It’s finally beginning to make sense. What city is likely to have a ML stadium ready to move into this offseason? Hmmm. Not Nashville. Hmmmm. Oakland here we come!!

Seeing similarities between players (which is what I posted) doesn't necessarily mean comparing one to the other.

Additionally, I've never been a big fan of comparing one era of baseball to another. Put Ohtani in the era of Babe Ruth and Ohtani probably hits 100 homeruns and steals 100 bases while winning 30 games while striking out 500 batters. Comparing eras of baseball is always going to be skewed.

The era means very little in this case. I did not use any raw stats to demonstrate that Bonilla was a much better player. I guess maybe they look similar while standing in right field? I don't get the comparison at all, even if you are talking about superficial similarities. I think Bonilla was a much better athlete in his 20s than Santander has been.

That's a good comp actually.  Santander to Bobby Bo.  Bonilla was the better player, primarily because of his onbase skills, but they share many similarities.

I totally disagree. In Bobby Bonilla's age 28 season, he was a four time All Star, had finished in the top three in MVP voting twice, was on his way to winning his third Silver Slugger award, and had posted OPS+ of > 140 three times (and 137 in another year). Comparing WAR is even more unfavorable to Santander. Bonilla was a significantly better player and it ain't even close. Bonilla generated roughly three times as much WAR as Santander at the same age and of course Bonilla played for ten more years.

They have scored 6 runs while he has been on mound in the 4 games.  Your not gonna win to many games getting 1.5 runs a game while your in.  He has given us chance 3 or those 4 games.

1.5 runs a start would make a lot pitchers have a bad attitude.

They would have to sign a lease that would be long enough to pay off the bonds. Heard around at least 13 -15 years. That is if they want improvements made. Unless the state house rewrites the bill ,probably not happening, the Orioles would get very little in state money for stadium improvements.  Of course John could pay for stadium improvements himself.

But the state house can't force the Orioles to sign the lease...and I can imagine John Angelos using the Angelos delaying tactics too long and ending up with a short-term lease that just treads water until there's a new owner.

Aside from an apparent ally in the Governor's mansion.

Is the governor going to wave a magic wand and make dozens of available acres of land appear around Camden Yards? Is the governor going to somehow make a suburban stadium location happen? The Orioles don’t have the kind of leverage or options that the Braves had. I think the best negotiating leverage the Orioles have is the outstanding play of the team. A World Series parade would put the orioles in a much better position than a whining son of the owner. But in the end this is all noise IMO. the Orioles will sign a lease although it may not be for as long as the state wants and the Orioles will get some sweet heart stuff in the deal. But I think there’s a lot of treading water until Peter passes and the Orioles are sold.

  10. Like all of you, I can't stand John Angelos and wish he would just stay quiet. But I think all he is doing in this interview is crying poor to try to get the best deal he can from the state and city. I assume that the Angelos family believes that the Orioles franchise will be more valuable and attractive to potential buyers if there's a sweet heart real estate deal in place. He keeps mentioning the Braves, but the situations are so totally different. The Angelos' have no real leverage in this situation.

No, Perez allowed Tatis Jr. to run around the bases after Fuji was lifted. 2 out single turns into an ER for Fuji.

Ahhh. I misunderstood. Thanks for clarifying.

It looked like Hyde’s head was going to explode after that happened.

Not saying Fuji hasn't been bad (he has), but is anyone appalled at just how bad this team is at letting inherited runners score? It seems to just be inevitable any time Hyde pulls a reliever mid-inning. Fuji has been as much of a victim of this as anyone, including last night.

What? I missed the start of the 7th inning last night, but didn't Fuji start the inning? He didn't inherit any runners, did he?

Fuji stinks. Great arm, but he still manages to stink it up.

  13. Really fun thread! Thanks for sharing your memories. I didn't move to MD until the fall of '91 and was given a ticket to a game at Oriole park in the spring of '92 when the Orioles hosted the Tigers. I wasn't a baseball fan, much less an Orioles fan, but that game did it for me. Very fun to read your memories. Hope fans years from now remember this Orioles team and what they are going to do.

In order of number of starts:

    Santander 64-40

    Rutschman 63-38

    Hays 59-36

    Henderson 59-34

    Frazier 48-34

    Mateo 48-28

    Mountcastle 45-29

    Urias 43-26

    Mullins 42-22

    O’Hearn 32-20

    McCann 24-14

    Hicks 21-15

    Westburg 13-9

     Cowser 9-5

    Vavra 9-5

    Ortiz 7-4

    Stowers 5-4

    Lester 4-2

    Bemboom 3-1

Literally every position player who’s started a game has started in more wins than losses.

It’s clear that adding Benboom to the roster will be key for the stretch run. I now see why Elias didn’t bother with a big name trade. 😃

I don't really care in hindsight. Buck's probably annoyed as a four time Manager of the Year in four different decades to be talking about this one mistake he's made for the last 7 years.

Oh that’s not what they are talking about in New York! And not what the NY media is asking him to talk about. His season has been historically crappy.

But in those quotes he does try to blame someone else. He’s just not naming names or explaining. I think the class act move would be to say it was a move that didn’t work or similar. He’s implying it wasn’t the move he wanted to make and that it was someone else’s fault. Not exactly the Buck stops here attitude (pun intended).

On another note, I’m assuming Buck won’t be managing in the bigs next year.

Ps. This probably sounds more negative than I meant. I would cheer Buck if I was at the game. But he’s not perfect and he’s got a strong self righteous type attitude a lot of times.

I think if they put this in front of him at the end of the year and he accepted, I'd be OK with it.

Really? I like him a lot, but I don't want Tony on the team in three years, much less four. The Santander focused discussion on the board would be incredibly negative if he was one of the team's highest paid players and put up the numbers that Drungo posted. There's no way I want the Orioles to pay that kind of money for seasons of 1 and 0.5 WAR...and the board would go nuts about it. Add Kjerstad to the equation and it would be a giant dumpster fire.
