  1. I think in that case the best outfield is Hicks in left, Mullins in center, Hays in right, Santander at DH. You can option McKenna or Vavra to make room, doesn’t really matter that much
  2. I’m happy to have him as long as Mullins is out and he’s hitting. As soon as those two things are no longer true then I hope he’s quick to exit
  3. Ouch, I try not be too reactive about lineups but this one is pretty bad. Of course, that means we’ll see 8+ runs from the bottom 3, right?

    June 2023

Considering how well they played in May, it gives some room for a bad stretch. And by bad stretch I mean that if they play .500 for the month of June I would be satisfied. I only say that because the last home series left the impression that regression is in order. Not to sound like a downer, but the division is still too much to expect. So as long as they can keep pace in the wild card standings then it’s a respectable season.
  5. Considering they just took 5 of 6 on the road vs divisional opponents, I’m really not worried. We all knew they probably played over their heads in April, May has very surprisingly been more of the same…there’s no need to get panicky after a couple series losses. A 16-12 month where they played a handful of the best teams in baseball is a good month. Zoom out a bit
  6. I think I’d have to go with Mateo considering the other options we have in the infield. Mateo really would be a perfect bench player…speed, defense, versatility (assuming he really can cover CF if needed).
  7. The results are there though. He is usually pitching into at least the 6th inning, limiting runs, keep walks at a decent clip. Yes, 6.2 is bad, especially compared with how he pitched earlier in his career, but how does any of that translate into anything except the fact that he’d immediately be the best pitcher on the Orioles?
  8. He’d be the ace on this team and he’s still one of the better pitchers in the league. Maybe ace is a subjective term, and I get what you’re saying about the importance of striking people out, but it’s not like he’s completely fallen off a cliff. We can’t all just find a former ace who has a period of struggles and start acting like Santander is a comparable player. That’s facebook level stuff.
  9. I didn’t say I’d do it. I’m saying that what it’d cost to get him. Can I interest you in a course in reading comprehension?
  10. I believe Ramirez has a no trade clause so he’s off the table. As far as Bieber goes, I think you’re gonna need to do something like Mullins for him. Just because his K/9 is down doesn’t mean he isn’t an ace still. They’ll obviously want proven major league talent since they’re still in the playoff hunt. Mullins has an extra year of control so the Guardians may need to throw in someone like George Valera to make it happen. But for those humoring a Santander for Bieber trade are not thinking in reality. Not even close to being close.
  11. I have not, but I’m intrigued if you care to share?
  12. In the broad scheme of things, humans (who have hilariously named ourselves “homo sapien” or “wise man”) will refuse to believe that we are not the ultimate authority in the realm of problem solving. We firmly believe that gut feelings and the undeniable notion that our perfectly evolved brains can master every angle of every problem just by willing it to happen are our birthright as kings of the universe. So it makes sense that we can’t fathom the idea that data driven models of problem solving created by statistical input would dare to dethrone us from being the one true source of knowledge. The truth might be that our over confidence in ourselves is actually our most significant downfall. The next generation will be the first of humankind to have to fight this war versus the artificially intelligent analytical algorithms that will be designed to shape human life into the most prosperous version of itself. Despite a seething desire to have it all, when we design a system that can maximize our chances at just that, we can’t help but push back against the awful machine thinkers and their data driven problem solving skills. We are our own gods!!! Never give in!!!!
  13. I have a feeling that the bat we’re looking for is already here. It could be Westburg, Cowser, or even Kjerstad if they’re willing to be aggressive enough. It could be Mullins if he was moved to a spot in the lineup where he’ll be hitting with runners on more often. Hell, it could be Mountcastle if he’d sacrifice a lamb or two to get out his exorbitant “unlucky” streak. I don’t think there is a bat out there that is available that will fill the role. I hate to say it but they’re either going to win with who they have, or they won’t.
  14. Means was probably better than anything they’ll get at the deadline so not sure that’s much of a positive, but I see where you’re going with that
  15. Does he do press conferences to announce a prospect is coming up? Did he do it for Adley? I don’t remember. I also can’t imagine he’d do a press conference for anything negative about Mullins or his health, seems quick and if it was really serious then I’d imagine they’d defer to being private considering Mullins has been private with his health issue in the past. I can only think of a few things…extension (good lord that’d be cool), his resignation (wouldn’t surprise me, the owners suck), some PR stunt about the City Connect jerseys and use it as a public rallying thing, maybe some news about Camden Yards lease but I’d expect to hear that from someone else, or maybe he learned how to do the worm and wants to showcase it?
  16. We’ve got a while to go before Means comes back, and whatever the starters are doing then will dictate what direction to go. It’s nearly impossible to figure it out right now. Someone will get injured at some point, both Kremer and Bradish seem 50/50 whether they will continue pitching well, Rodriguez is likely to be handled lightly later into the season….just repeating what you said. But it’s definitely worth noting that none of us can accurately predict anything at this point.
  17. I don’t think Elias trades anyone of substance for a rental. That includes the crowded middle infield. Also, if recent history is any indication…he will probably trade one of the established players to clear room for cheaper players. I could see Santander, Mateo, or Frazier being traded rather than Westburg, Ortiz, or Norby. Unless of course he has a blockbuster move that includes a player with some control but he hasn’t ever done anything like that so it’s hard to envision it happening til it does
  18. Count me in as one who doesn’t believe the Padres will sell. Plus, I don’t know if the price would be worth a half season rental. We’re talking about trading someone like Povich, who could actually be a long term option in the rotation.
  19. Well, I’ll admit I don’t know how well O’Hearn plays 1B, but I will say that Mountcastle is worse than mediocre. They’ve given Mountcastle a long enough leash…both in the short term and long term. That’s just my thoughts, I’m not saying DFA or trade him while his value is nil, but even a temporary platoon while O’Hearn has a hot bat so that Mountcastle can get back on track somehow by feasting on LHP…worth a shot. Possibly even something as simple as lowering him in the lineup. He’s pretty much a guaranteed 0-4 tonight, why is he hitting cleanup? Doesn’t make sense to me.
  20. There’s no reason not to have a platoon between Mountcastle and O’Hearn at this point. It’s shocking to see him hitting clean up while getting dominated by RHP this year. Oh, and he plays a terrible first base.
  21. Orioles have gone 7-3 in the last 10, Yankees 8-2. It’ll be a tough series, hoping to see 2-1. There’s no reason to even entertain pitching to Judge in any meaningful at bat.
  22. McCann and his .509 OPS? I mostly meant the swing in winning% once Adley was called up. He seems to add something unquantifiable to the team.
  23. To be honest, there’s one player on this current team who a major injury to would absolutely destroy this team. Gotta just hope it doesn’t happen
