  1. And savoring it, I am...... Wow, what a year..... It feels weird to not be afraid of any team in the Major Leagues. Tor or TB? Don't care, bring 'em on.
  2. Have tickets along the 3rd base line, taking Mom, who's a big Dodger fan. Always ask her about 1966, I was four years old, gosh, Mom, what happened in that world series? (Then I duck)
  3. Okay, the voice of the Tides PBP announcer. I'm not going to say anything else, because my Momma......
  4. Does anyone know, if the Tides win tonight, who the Home team would be Saturday in the "Championship" game?
  5. I voted AR, there is a gap between him and Gunnar stat-wise, but as a former pitcher, I am biased towards great catchers. They impact the game in ways that don't show up in a box score. That said, glad we have them both.
  6. This post just brings home the very satisfying feeling of having several excellent choices, all with brightly Orange colored, team controlled futures......
  7. Let's go Tides! I want to see Jax, Mayo, Norby and the Boyz in person on Saturday.
  8. I strongly disagree with this statement. He is providing end-of-the-bench excellence. Strong shortstop defense and speed. And he leads team with 5 sac bunts. His bat is not zero against lefties. (Did I seriously just respond to a post from July? Yes. Apparently I did.)
  9. Beautiful, Roy. Thanks for sharing. So hard to imagine the racial hardships and prejudices back then, even for celebrities. I spent ages 8-13 (1970-1975) on Naval Bases in Japan, and never was exposed to racial tensions until we moved back to Southern California in 1975 and I started in public schools. PS, Reason I'm an Orioles fan is I saw them play in Tokyo, Japan against the Tokyo Giants on their tour after the 1971 World Series, first professional baseball game I ever saw. I was hooked. PS2, there is a book called "Black and Blue" that goes into that era of Orioles baseball much more in-depth, including the off-field hardships faced by some of the players.
  10. That is interesting, because unless I'm wrong, I thought Diaz was considered an excellent defensive 1B..... If we can clinch soonest, maybe Coby gets a couple games at the end of the season. It's fun to be talking about this stuff, imagination stirring, indeed.
  11. Dang it, Tides, need you to win this series so I can see you play out here in Vegas on Saturday!
  12. Oh, no, no, no........ The world was a better place with that man in it. This makes me so sad. Thoughts and Prayers, Roy.
  13. Timing of Jax Holliday Major League callup...... To play the bonus draft pick game in 2024 under the "Prospect Promotion Incentive" system, he would have to break camp on opening day and stay with the O's the entire season. Last year, the Mariners went with Julio Rodriguez as their center fielder for the whole year. As AL Rookie of the Year, Seattle picked up the bonus pick, 29th overall—and about $2.5 million in bonus pool money. (Remember Gunnar was #42 overall, so this is not a trivial pick) Looks like we'll be the beneficiary of a similar bonus this year with Gunnar. So, IF, and only IF "exploiting" this PPI system is in the cards for Jax, he's going to have to make the opening day roster, OR stay in minors next year OR get called up next year and stay below the rookie limits to try and game the system for 2025. I can see how there might be some un-intended consequences in this "incentive" system when it comes to highly touted prospects, i.e. not calling up a kid during the season, or keeping his playing time down to keep rookie status for the next season.
  14. Best in the AL, I'll take it on the 19th of September, plus beating Tampa Bay and Houston four in a row.....
  15. We for sure have an "A" pick in 2024? Did some searches to see how it's decided, but looks like there some tweaks after the 2016 agreement, and I can't find out what those tweaks were....
  16. Where can I find a pair of those 20/20 glasses you have on? Mostly kidding but so easy to decide what are good and bad situations well after the outcome is known.
  17. That has been a crazy situation for the franchise, and is now getting even crazier. Would love Trout as our LF, but the contract is an albatross, his health is questionable, and even if they ate some of the money, that would be forcing us to give up prospects that are probably better targeted to trading for Bradish / Cano type pitching prospects. I do feel for Ohtani, what he is doing on the field is beyond epic, and I hope he recovers fully. For a National League team.
  18. Like good old fashion National League managing.
  19. Wholeheartedly concur... 14/15/16 was fun, but this team is looking special, with a whole host of talent in the wings. To do what they did tonight after what they did last night, starting to feel like anything is possible. I'm trying to figure out where we might be playing and when, there is travel in my future. Savoring every moment.
  20. Getting a very Andrew Miller career arc type trajectory out of DL Hall. Sketchy as a starter, but then a real multi-inning relief threat.
  21. That might be the most satisfying regular season win I've ever experienced.
  22. So what? Won't be the last strikeout of his career.
