  1. Still looked good. The HR allowed was up and out over the plate and Dozier got extended. Nibbled a bit after that, but hey he stayed out of the middle of the plate. Settled down and finished strong.
  2. I’ve been willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for some time now, but this is not the first time he’s thrown the ball poorly. I really think he’s got a good approach at the plate, too, but it hasn’t made s difference so far. Also, does anyone else think he’s heavy? I mean, he’s big and not in a good way.
  3. Seems like a lifetime ago.... https://grantland.com/features/jonah-keri-baltimore-heavy-hitting-chris-davis/
  4. I sure am glad a guy like Davis has 10-5 rights.
  5. Mullins has bottom 10% arm strength. Stewart’s arm is more playable in LF, but not bad. His speed is slightly above average. Therefore, I fully expect him to be an average to slightly above defender in the OF.
  6. I don’t think his NTC is the only impediment to any team trading for Davis. ?
  7. Move DJ to #2 and Rio to #5. Rearranging my deck chairs.
  8. I’m not convinced it was a strategy at all. Hyde sounded complimentary of Harvey ‘not giving in’ to Rendon and Soto while walking both of them. He said Harvey pitches to the edges and wasn’t ‘middle-middle’ with his FB. I don’t know what in any of that confirms it was necessarily a strategy.
  9. No. Here’s the thing: if I’m playing I realize that the only thing keeping him on the roster is the contract. Whether it’s a nod to the old man by his sons, or their decision that they won’t throw away money without Davis at least showing up. His being on the roster is specious reasoning at best, but seeing his butt on the bench is justified because he’s terrible. The message is still, “You earn playing time by contributing.” And he ain’t.
  10. I thought it was brilliant. Got a chance to see what he’s made of in that type of situation. He was a starter. Do you really think 30 pitches for one day is putting him at risk? Heck, for how often he’s been injured maybe they should have him on a strict 10 pitch per inning limit.
  11. No, he doesn’t. Zach Greinke was throwing a CH (87 mph) only a few miles down from what his FB (91/92 mph) was a couple years ago. What’s more important is that it’s action (armside run, tumbling away from a LHB) is good (it was). Now, he needs to be consistent. I also am not certain he’s done with starting. Despite his enthusiasm, he doesn’t decide.
  12. Actually it’s not underwhelming? I agree players are assets. So, then who cares if they don’t like how they’re used in that capacity? I don’t know how your example of Cashner is even remotely related to that of a player who’s so bad it’s accepted that he remains on a roster solely because of the money owed to him.
  13. There is virtually no one I’d rather watch in the postseason than Nick Markakis. Oh, and I have a small bet on the Braves to go all the way. Definitely a long shot, but again, no one I’d rather see get a WS ring.
  14. Is it though? I mean if riding the bench is representative of that factor, then I’d say it sounds underwhelming. I think guys are smart enough to know what’s going on.
  15. Trade ( I don’t expect much) or bench. Nunez doesn’t have much to offer when the rebuild turns into a competitive team.
  16. I should have specified the FO. While I think it’s an ownership decision on Davis I do think how the team is constructed by Elias will inform that decision at some point. So, when guys are pushing to be called up based on performance then I think Elias makes his case. And they’re not there yet. So, no big deal.
  17. It’s possible. The Phillies had soured on him, but it still seems like an overpay.
  18. Baseball has the best pension by far. https://www.investopedia.com/financial-edge/0710/top-pro-athlete-pension-plans.aspx
  19. He’s accumulated wealth that will last his family generations, almost $100 million so far. “And I’ve got a pension. And I’ve got a 401(k). All that,” he said. “That’s why I call it the white man’s game – you get all that shit.” I wish he’d stay away from this provocative rhetoric. He’s benefiting from the system while disparaging it.
  20. I think some of it likely informs their decision. But he isn’t going away anytime soon.
  21. Although I also noted in my post he had too many base runners, he did limit the damage. Limiting the opposition to two runs in 5IP with 10 guys on base is actually good.
  22. I didn’t think the fly ball in front of Santander was playable, but maybe you’re right if he doesn’t break back. Bundy was quite as sharp as he had been the two starts prior (10 base runners in 5 IP), but still good enough. As you said, decent outing.
  23. He’s gonna be your favorite by that time.
  24. @Luke-OH Ginn has that powerful lower body build for a pitcher I love. Lot of drive, but I would like to see more hip rotation at foot strike. He has to overcompensate with his upper body to get over his front foot. But you’re right, moves well with a compact, repeatable delivery. Man, great armside run with the FB and those secondaries look good already. Meyer gathers his lead leg (reminds me of a young Zack Greinke) prior to his drive. Comes out of his delivery a bit at the end, but for a negligible effect. Slider is nasty-good depth and break. Any thoughts on the HS kid, Abel?
