  1. Like a car wreck, you just can’t look away...
  2. And we give it right back, ugh
  3. How do you know? Are you a scout? What if he takes Adley and he ends up being a huge bust? What would you say then? The draft is an absolute crapshoot. I’d rather stockpile a bunch of really solid guys after taking an underslot at 1.1 than take a guy at 1.1 who pans out, but is the only one who makes it in the whole class.
  4. This isn’t the NFL draft. 1.1 is definitely not guaranteed to be an impact player. I am sure folks were going “Who the heck is Mike Trout?” when he was picked 25th. Ergo, I trust the process and the decisions being made.
  5. Thank god we aren’t paying anyone to stink that badly....
  6. The more pressing question of the evening is where in the world those ladies behind home plate came from. They sure have kept my attention?
  7. It is becoming more and more difficult to really get into this rebuild without knowing if we’ll even have a team to root for after 2022. So, I guess I’d ask him “boxers or briefs?”
  8. When they can barely get 10k in the stadium on a Friday night with beautiful weather, that’s a huge cause for concern. Even the dark years had decent Friday night crowds. Did they take away student discount night?
  9. This x1000. You’re essentially going to make people pay for giveaways. Kinda defeats the purpose, doesn’t it?
  10. See, what really scares me is many people seem to think this is “plug and play” situation, where we will turn into Houston East just because we hired Elias and Sig. I am almost finished reading Astroball and what struck me was the statistics in downtown Houston growth by 2017. There were 18 Houston-based companies in the Fortune 500 in 2017. Does Baltimore have any? Plus, the population was booming, whereas I believe Baltimore’s is rapidly shrinking. I don’t want to believe Baltimore will lose the Orioles in 2023 to Vegas or Nashville or Portland, but it is becoming more and more difficult not to think about that very scenario playing out.
  11. Well, it looks like the rumors were true. I’m not quite sure how to feel about it, to be honest.
  12. Good point. From what I read, it sounded like Vidalin had a good resume. I am just curious.
  13. Right, some context may be helpful. He was hired as COO in June 2018. https://www.bizjournals.com/baltimore/news/2018/07/03/orioles-tap-longtime-sports-exec-to-lead-all.html
  14. I have heard and read some rumors recently that he is leaving the Orioles after less than a year on the job. Is this true? What exactly was he brought in to do in the first place? Did Elias decide this guy is not fit for the new regime?
  15. 52. The law of averages says we can’t worse than last year, right?? In a cruel twist of fate, KC not only beats us with the WS on the line, but also beats us at stinking and ends up with 51 wins. And in milbest77’s soon-to-be-famous bonus special: We draft some completely random pitcher who isn’t even in the top-10 draft lists with the first overall pick in June? The word “analytics” will be code for “signable and cheap.”
  16. Compared to Hunter, he’s probably Bob Ueker.
  17. Looks like the Padres were the trade partner for Ubaldo and it stalled for financial reasons. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/07/pitching-rumors-chapman-ervin-hill-hellickson-ubaldo-blue-jays.html
  18. He’s not going anywhere. This ownership (I understand the sons seem to be doing things differently) will not pay a guy to play for someone else. Honestly, are there any past examples of them letting someone go who was still under contract? I am sure there are a few, but under a contract of magnitude? As I recall, wasn’t a Ubaldo trade in 2016 held up over $1 million that the Blue Jays would not pay?
