  1. It must be tough to be known as THE worst umpire. But someone has to be, I guess. It reminds me of the old joke, "what do you call the person who finished last in his med school?" Answer: "Doctor".
  2. When I was in my mid teens, his hippie ethic appealed to me and I followed his early NBA career when he was allowed to turn loose and be himself. I admired his playing in college, but I had to pull hard against him in his senior year as NC State was my hometown team and David Thompson was my guy. We all know how the '74 tournament went. But Walton was an intimidating presence on the court and that semi-final was one I dreaded. He had an amazing run at UCLA and as Frobby mentioned, the '73 title game was off the charts as far as domination and excellence, and propelled him straight into legend. I didn't follow college nor NBA much in the last few decades, so I missed him as a commentator or analyst. But I'd heard a lot about how colorful he was. Rest in peace, Bill. I'm so sorry for your loss, Roy. Thanks for sharing.
  3. I can! Me in the cage in '80 during offseason in high school. And I have a knuckleball if needed in blowout games. More recent.
  4. Good point about the big swing. Sometimes just trying to go opposite field helps guys make a breakthrough, too. I think the last five hits by Mounty were opposite field singles and doubles. And one of those games he got four hits, so he was onto something.
  5. Dang auto-correct. I typed "miss missile". But I was going by this definition. piss missile - a line drive struck with force to cause any fielder in the path of said ball to lose their ability to hold his urine
  6. I had that problem with Pillar. Not only did his name sound French, but he looked French!
  7. Also, observation of games is so evolved that we have such things as pitch spin rate, all manner of analytics, and broadcast overlays with run, rbi, and HR probability. And yet, we don't have robots calling balls and strikes or at least pitch challenges. Color my world.
  8. It has been bothering me for awhile about who Beintendi reminds me of. Now I know. Frank Sabotka from The Wire, Season Two. The baby-faced union guy from the docks.
  9. I did a Google search of Jason La Canfora to see what he looked like. Based on what I read on here, he's a blowhard and jack leg. I was kind of hoping the photo was of the guy I was sitting next to on row 2 in Section 336 on Saturday vs. Diamondbacks. He was opinionated, obnoxious, loud, and argumentative with nearly everything we talked about. He was a young guy, maybe mid to late 20s, a bushy beard, dark hair, and wearing a LOT of Orioles gear (socks, color-coordinated shoes, white O's jacket, and some specialty O's cap I didn't recognize). He said he had worked at 98 rock until last year. We got into a heated discussion about my proposal to move the main scoreboard in the offseason to the Hilton side behind the statue park, as part of the 600 million dollars of upgrades, and also so that the historic Camden Station could be seen from all of the seats. He was just relentless. I wanted to throw him over the rail. After seeing his pic, I realize hit's not him, but I wonder who it was? He says he works for a high school now. He's not on OH, as I asked him. My parting words were, "well, if they decided to do that, you can say you heard it first from an asshole sitting next to you on May 11th, 2024." My wife just snickered when she heard that.
  10. And, oh man, losing those voicemails from your late father. I hope there is a way to recover them. That hits me. I have some from Weams that I'm trying to hang onto. They made it to my newest phone purchase. It would crush me if I were to lose them.
  11. This whole experience sounds like one of my anxiety nightmares. They usually involve auto-fill with my iPhone or some hacking of my phone when I'm trying to get directions. Sorry you had this happen. Clearly it was one of "those days".
  12. Hyde and O'Hearn are two guys I would not even think about starting a fight with.
  13. And then completely threw him with the 82 mph pitch that he swung and missed for the K. Quite a differential.
  14. They actually looked ok with the white pants last week. But the black/black pairing with the white belt make them look like 40s Western Swing musicians. Might as well have bandanas and boots, too.
  15. To see so many cherry trees in bloom at once is a pretty picture. You should treat yourself and see it once while up there.
  16. I can't see that on my app. I mistakenly said I was watching via my Mac on my TV. But this time, I'm using FireTV's MLB app. The option are very limited, but it's still pretty cool overall. Activating the Gameday option shows the pitch sequence and the pitching box history for the at bat.
  17. Is it bleed from the green screen on the wall? I would say Bradish would perhaps glow from plasma rich injections, but this is a new one on me.
  18. Speaking of alternate audio, I did switch to there O's radio feed and for the first time ever for me on MLB-TV (streaming from my Mac onto my TV), the audio matches the video perfectly.
