What about Valaika?
I am excited when I see Valaika’s name in the lineup but not Davis. Does that count?

His 2021 projected ZIPS triple slash is .229/.291/.373
1.5 WAR though which is the same as Hays and Mountcastle.

Never started one before so if I "F" it up, pardon this interruption in your regularly scheduled programming. But "What If". Last year there was thread about the WAR for teams qualifying for Playoffs and my memory says if you got to 25 WAR you were fighting for a WC berth. What if: Outfield of MC, Hays, Santander, with Gold Glove-caliber defense from Mullins, is giving you 8.5 WAR. Infield: 3B, SS, 2B giving you 3 WAR, Mancini is his 2019 self and Stewart takes to DH and they combine for 5.5 War and C chips in another 1.5 War. We are at 18.5. They go with a 6-man rotation to reduce innings load and all 6 starters are healthy and producing average results and the bullpen is above average, assume that gets you to 25 WAR. Zimmerman, Lowther, Baughman are dominating AAA and Grayrod and Hall are ready to move up to AAA. It's the end of July, O's are in WC spot, 300 M have been vaccinated and crowds are coming back to OPACY to see Mancini, Felix and Harvey. Put on your Orange-colored glasses (approved by WC) and pretend you are ME, "Watta ya gonna do"?? Sell hi and move Santander, Mancini and vet pitchers for prospects? Go out and get a piece or 2 for a run? Stand pat??
I think the first move is let Chris Davis go so a potentially productive player can be added to the roster. I would also try to trade King Felix.

If the problem is arm strength why not try him at 2B?
It’s arm utility, not arm strength

Tampa’s % is a joke imo, especially compared to Boston.
I might give Boston a 47% chance to finish 3rd.

We have a huge hole at 3B in the organization. We can afford to let Mountcastle take his lumps for a few years. His he really that bad? Ruiz and Bannon aren’t exactly world beaters from a short term.
Longenhagen an McDaniel actually use him as the example of someone who shouldn't play infield. His arm is rated by McDaniel as a 45 on the 20-80 scale, but his arm utility is a 20. Arm utility is the assessment of whether or not your arm can make the plays needed in the infield. They hold him up as the perfect example of someone whose arm is passable in the outfield, but can't get the job done making all of the unique throws required in the infield.

Should be entertaining with Severino behind the plate.

He has only been a full-time knuckleball pitcher since 2015. He has had success at AA in 2017, 2018, and 2019, with ERAs of 3.60, 3.60 and 3.10. Knocked around in his 4 AAA appearances though. Seems like a fun guy to have in camp and I would rather have him filling the 5th spot in the Norfolk rotation than someone like Eshelman or LeBlanc.
I’m always pulling for the knuckleballer.

Does that mean other teams don’t respect the Orioles?

I do recall the Rangers whining last year when Tatis hit a grand slam on a 3-0 pitch in a game the Padres were leading 10-3 in the 8th inning. Schadenfreude.

My biggest complaint of OPACY relative to other stadiums I've been to is no open concourse. I don't know how feasible it is to change that....we'd probably have to remove some seating.
Maybe now is the perfect time!!
Does this mean you can see when you are not in the seating bowl?

The O's probably want improvement to the Yard and the MSA is not in a position with the economy being what it is to commit to those improvements. Kicking the can down the street two years hopefully gets passed the Pandemic.
Its doesn't have to be O's that want the delay.
The stadium is the best part of an Orioles game since 2016.

I still like my old idea of limiting at bats to 10 pitches. I realize it's a great strategy to harm opposing pitcher's arms by making them throw tons of pitches, but I could get over not seeing that. If you poopoo the idea because not may at-bats go 10 pitches anyway, I'm willing to change it to 9 pitches.
It punishes a good hitter and rewards a lesser pitcher. Can’t support that. Pitch better.

Now are those would be homers turning into loud outs or doubles off the wall?
It depends on if you play Mike Devereaux in LF or Mark Trumbo.

I agree. The lack of baseball in the Super Bowl makes it less interesting than the World Series.

At least we got to see some legends retire as Orioles. Ron Kittle, Greg Walker, and Keith Moreland all spring to mind.
And while he didn’t retire as an Oriole, anyone remember reliever John Pacella, who appeared in 6 games for the O’s in 1984? He was the guy whose hat would fall off with each pitch. Almost every... single... pitch. I think the umpires only allowed it because he often got shelled. Too bad, they could have done a nice bobblehat figure for him.Don’t forget Jimmy Key! And you might want to forget Vlad

They have been talking O's the last two days when I turn on 105.7 though.

Hershiser and Saberhagen were dominant at times and that is what pops in my head when I see this list.
